Since Disney owns the Muppets and Star Wars one of these guys should now play old Obi Wan.

I wonder what (if any) changes he has in store this time. Perhaps the Jawas will have faces this time? Maybe Han doesn't shoot at all this time and Greedo shoots himself? How about a shot of Mickey Mouse inside the Cantina? Will Darth Vader say "NOOOOOOOOOO" in a more dignified way this time? Which ghost of Aniken will appear to Luke at the end of RETURN OF THE JEDI? Hayden Christensen, Jake LLoyd, or just about anyone else that Luke would not recognize? And finally, will George Lucas incorporate lens flare in every single shot as a tribute to the upcoming JJ Abrams Disney Lens flare extravaganza?
I suppose it doesn't really matter now. George Lucas did away with the original, and the only way to see them now is in crappy VHS.
Now this is funny as hell,......I'm with you man....I have not, will not, can not own these on bluray until someone (I don't care who) release the original versions I saw in theaters, back in the 70's & 80's.
I've held off buying one of my favorite childhood movies of all time, because the director altered way to much material & being ashamed of his work. I have over 500 Bluray's, and headed north to 600 and you couldn't "give me" this pile of ****.

Disney, I hope you are listening....I ( and many thousands of other) will throw down $$$$ for the "unaltered" material if you release them on Bluray. Until then, I stand fast until I die!!

You don't have to resort to VHS for the unaltered versions of the trilogy. They released them as "bonus discs" in 2007 when the movies were released individually. Unfortunately they're just low quality letterboxed versions... but at least they ARE in widescreen and on disc. It's better than nothing.

Funny, though, I didn't realize why people were complaining about them until I got an HDTV and and watched them for the first time on it lol.

Those original, non-anamorphic letterbox versions are unwatchable IMO.

If I am going to watch any version of the original Star Wars, it has to be the Blu-rays.

As much as I want the originals, I rather deal with the special edition changes on the Blu vs horrible PQ of the original DVDs.

Fox owns distribution rights to the original Star Wars, No. 4 in the series, in perpetuity in all media worldwide. And as for the five subsequent movies, Fox has theatrical, nontheatrical and home video rights worldwide through May 2020.

While the rights on those five films eventually will revert to Disney, that "in perpetuity" pact for the first film appears to be an obstacle to Disney releasing a complete set -- unless a deal can be made.

+1

Those Laserdisc transfers are nasty.

I've still got them though along with the BD's, seeing as they're Theatrical Cuts an' all.

I don't watch Star Wars any more. The VCR ate my widescreen tape of Jedi and I can't be bothered with hunting down a laser disc player or getting the non-anamorphic dvds. I have almost bought the BD set a few times but then Hayden's child molester look at the end of Jedi and his "I hate sand" speech in Clones pop into my mind and I put it back on the shelf.

The changes are overblown by SW fanboys IMO. In truth, out of all the changes/updates Lucas has done there are only 2 that I truly hate (Greedo/Han and "Jedi Rocks.") The rest of them do not bother me, nor do I think they hurt the films in any way. All in all, I would never want to go back to the original un touched films at all. I think the good changes outweigh the bad ones enough for me to prefer the newer versions.

The one change that I DO want is for them to go back and fix the damn light sabers where their appearance matches throughout the entire saga!! You have the skinny "car antannae" sabers in Episode Four. You have Vader's "pink" saber in Episode 6. They should take the way they look in Episode 3 and match it up for the entire saga IMO.

+1 Also, the audio for A New Hope has the last line of dialogue spoken by Aunt Beru as the dubbed voice "Stereo", not the original "Mono" one. So it's incomplete. Gutted when I heard that.

I HATED those ones!
I hate "Pointed End" Lightsabers... They just look wrong.
There is only one other change that NEEDS to be fixed... the Vader "NO" in Jedi!

I never noticed that in Episode 3 to be honest with you! What I was talking about was how vivid they looked color wise and the white core. I'll have to go back and look at the movie now as I've NEVER noticed that the sabers had pointy tips.

The whole "NO" in Jedi to me is one that I am ambivalent towards. I think the addition of it neither hurts nor helps the film whatsover. Ask yourself this, if it had been there from the very beginning would you have even thought about it or had an opinion on it one way or the other? I asked myself this question and I had to honestly answer no. So now I just accept it and go on.

IMO the 2 scenes that need be fixed/restored is

1.) Han/Greedo scene. It doesn't upset me that Lucas wants Han to shoot Greedo in retaliation. It's just that the scene looks jacked up. They cannot get that scene to look right and therefore should just restore it to it's original state.

2.) Jedi Rocks. The new song is just....awful! The CGI now is sorely outdated! What I think they should do is re do the CGI in that scene, update it to look less cartoony, and restore the original music!

I hear you on the Han/Greedo shoot out. It does seem weirdly shot. But I'm in the don't change the initial character. Han shot first because he was a scoundrel at first and only in things for the money. It works against bring Han full circle by Jedi. I really wish the complete collection would go down in price. I'd like to get it, but the price is too high.

I tried watching the original A New Hope DVD on my 65" and had to turn it off within 10 minutes. Just brutal.

It doesn't look too bad though on my 19" PC monitor at about 5 feet back.

Sorry if this has been asked but i just noticed that they are re-releasing SW original and prequel sagas next month AGAIN. Is this just a quick cash-grab? Anything new?

They're not SteelBooks.

The two trilogies received SteelBook releases earlier this year outside North America, but these re-releases coming up for the U.S. are not SteelBooks.

god I hate the combo packs. which they would just stop it already as it is nothing but a money grab. no wonder bluray isn't dominant the way they thought it would be. might as well start throwing in vhs copies and keep everyone happy.

I don't see them releasing a new set with new features until after 7-9 are done. could be wrong but with the way they promoted it on bluray, I don't think they are that greedy. even if Fox doesn't own the rights to the 7-9 releases, would be dumb not to piggyback off of them.

Combo Packs aren't bad, it's the fact that they make different versions of the format...
3D/BD/DVD/DC
BD/DVD/DC
BD/DVD
BD
DVD

What they should do is STOP all the format splitting and just make ONE package!

One Package for the whole family type of thing, and the 3D/BD/DVD/DC version is already being made, so why split the format?
Do it this way and they will still break even like they are now and there will be less consumer complaints about wrong version or format. Heck, they might actually make more money this way instead of all the different packaging that needs to be made...
