He is still a consultant to LucasFilm, and probably will be until the day he dies. But he no longer has control or ownership over the Star Wars films. They were always owned by LucasFilm, LucasFilm will now dictate what happens to them. I predict Kathleen will release the original versions, next year, if for no other reason than to build goodwill heading into Episode VII.
I hope your prediction comes true. I would like to think Disney doesn't mind working with Fox to release them...OR, better yet we read that Disney has sent another Billion over to Fox for distribution rights.

So the Complete Saga Box (the separate sets) still in my local stores, means what to this prediction?

Not much if they don't print any more copies or very few. if they're phased out they will also be sold at discounted prices.

AFAIK, absolutely nothing. If the UOT is released, then I would expect the 2011 release to be marked down in price considerably.

Means nothing. With some series there are multiple different collections in store even at the same time.

There will be no major markdowns. Theyll leave them as is or send them back to Fox.

I'd still love to have the 1997 versions but I don't mind the 2004 editions at all, in fact I like most of the new new changes like the updated CG Jabba (being the one person on Earth who likes that scene) and the seamless set extension in the Death Star cell bay. Even Hayden I can tolerate because I do actually like the prequels, and I've started to get used to seeing him there and hearing Tem Morrison's voice as Boba Fett.

But the 2011 iterations are a new level of stupid, like Artoo's magical disappearing rock and the horrid new call when Obi-Wan frightens off the sand people. Empire, once again, seems to have gotten off lightly, but the stuff in Jedi is utterly useless. There was no need to make Jabba's entrance bigger (ahem) or to add CG to Artoo's freakout at the bunker or to add a crappy CG Dug into Jabba's palace. The blinking Ewoks was something they tried to do during the actual production but they couldn't get it to work, so obviously it always niggled Lucas, fair enough. But Vader's 'Nooooo......NOOOOOOOOOOO!' is even goofier than the one in Revenge of the Sith and it really does ruin one of the most pivotal scenes in the entire saga.

Or LucasFilm signs a limited theatrical distribution deal with Fox for the new trilogy in exchange for final rights to the original Star Wars film...unless that hasn't already happened with the Prequel deals in the late 90's. Not up on who owns the rights to the fist Star Wars. But Fox getting the third trilogy distribution monies for a limited time would please fans, as they'd get their Fox fanfare before the films started. And at the end of the contract, LucasFilm would finally own everything related to Star Wars.

Distribution isn't ownership, by the way. Distribution simply means booking theaters and sending prints and the distributor takes a cut of the grosses. The big studios own their own distribution arms -- Walt Disney and Roy Disney created their own after growing frustrated with RKO, Lucas never created his own distribution company.

Oh right, I hate that too! Tho the first "no," is acceptable to me. Still silence is golden!

That's precisely what I would do - though Jedi Rocks would have to be removed from Jedi, as well before I'd even consider it..

The reason the SE to ESB wasn't like the other two is because there weren't revisions to the tone of the film. If both the other films had gotten the same treatment, you would have never seen the level of controversy that happened.

Of course, I still would support the unaltered OT being available for historical sake, but in terms of my own personal watching - I wouldn't have had nearly the flinch-factor on Star Wars and ROTJ.

Very possibly. Or perhaps Star Wars weekends at WDW. They got Mark Hamill this year - I think they will get even more for next year to really raise the profile. It would be unorthodox, but it would further raise their profile and Disney gets all the attention since it's their event.

No, he's referring to historical landmarks/sites.

Four billion bucks speaks volumes. George also had his "final say" with the 2011 versions.

Oh, and this is all covered by the BusinessWeek article in my signature. He actually had a hard time doing it, but he did indeed sign everything over when he sold the company, and Disney made it clear in no uncertain terms that they have final word on everything. It's all in their own words in the article.

That seems much more likely than 'here's four billion dollars, they're ours now'.

The only entity more controlling than Lucasfilm is Disney, LOL.

They own the property, Lucas has no influence at all any more. Again, all in the article in my sig - he "consults" as in they get to pick his brain about the universe. Yes, he wrote the treatments to the sequel trilogy - that was part of the sale - they bought them - but they have no obligation to even follow them, either - which is clearly evidenced by the fact they threw out Arndt's script, in which the original cast had much more minor roles, and the rewrite reportedly features them quite extensively.

I know I'm a broken record here, but seriously - before you say anything else so foolish, read it. Iger and Lucas in their own words in BusinessWeek - not some speculative blog or fan imagining of fantasy scenarios. It even specifically mentions how Lucas had a hard time at first with really giving up control - but in the end, he did.

Facts can be hilarious, I guess. But not as much as people wildly speculating about a business deal that the details of which were actually rather public, since it is a publicly traded company and all.

If the original theatricals are ever again released I'll do what I've done with the current release - buy them to own them, put them in my custom Star Wars cases to replace the DVD versions and likely never, ever watch them. And I won't lose any sleep over any of it either.

Is it just me or was the first "No" clipped from the line "No. I will deal with them myself"?

I mean the added ROTJ "No".
