I said in the Scanners thread that the creator's intent is what I want to see for all films, since it is their art and it should be shown as how they want it to be. The Special Editions are what Lucas wants and he should not be obligated to release flawed and inferior early drafts of his work.

I really hope Disney does, because I really don't want to listen to another decade's worth of "Disney destroyed my childhood" nonsense. I cringe at the thought of wacky Entitled Fan banning everything Disney from his home/family because this person can't get the original films on BD.

For the time being I'll be enjoying the heck out of my BD set and taking in all the great twitter/FB/social interweb stuff coming from Camp JJ. It's been a treat to watch so far.

Bravo! Even though you and I disagree about most things that have to do with this release I do applaud your decision to enjoy the editions of the film that you prefer. Hopefully myself and others will get the same enjoyment afforded to us someday.

Sure some of us prefer certain versions of the films to other versions that other people prefer but so what it's all Star Wars at the end of the day.

Seconded. I appreciate when someone tries to cool the flames around this issue by saying were all in this together because we like the same thing, but that's not really the case. The tone and themes set by the OT are different from the newer revisionist stuff. They really are two different stories. One is about a young man starting his adventure and becoming a man (while saving his father from eternal damnation), while the other is about striking a saturday morning cartoon tone, and changed the story arc to: "You can do some pretty vile stuff in your lifetime and still escape the consequences of it by feeling bad about it on your deathbed."

Two completely different Star Wars universes.

Yes, I'm sure Disney gave Lucas four billion dollars and let him retain control of 'his' movies.

That seems much more likely than 'here's four billion dollars, they're ours now'.

If you don't think he's still not getting a percentage or has no creative control, even if it's only as a consultant, you're being dense. Hell, he wrote the outlines for the next three movies and likely had a hand in the spin-off's as well to a certain degree. It's hilarious the way you downplay his role. The same as others who love The Clone Wars series because they think Lucas wasn't involved in it, when in fact he was deeply involved in every episode, also makes me chuckle.

For a while there it seemed like he was slowly warming to the idea of releasing what he started calling the 'classic editions' but this is even better.

Obviously there's no guarantee that Disney will release the UOT but I can't help but think the chances are a lot better now than they were a year ago.

But like you and I both expressed a page or two ago: The magic is so highly diluted/messed with now that I don't care nearly as much as I used to. What was once awesome is now just nostalgia from a bygone era.

I don't foresee anything. I just can't imagine Disney spending billions of dollars to acquire SW only to have their hands completely tied on how they can use it. I wouldn't for example buy a car under the stipulation that I can never change the tires or adjust the mirrors to fit my needs. The price would go way down if someone told me that.

Yes. You're talking about HOAs. But you go into those supporting the idea, because you like the neighborhood as it is and agree to the rules for that reason. You normally don't make money off your house though like you do your car. Try going in to work by foot...it affects your bottom line.

Disney probably didn't buy SW because it looked pretty and they wanted to keep it that way. I think they're in it for the profits, yeah?

The rocks aren't visible because of the camera's location, they didn't exist at the location! The shot behind Artoo doesn't show the rocks and when Ben Kenobi reaches Luke they've disappeared. There are several shots from Ben and Luke's angle which should show the rocks if they'd bothered to add them to all the necessary frames.

The DVD captures below show that the added rocks would be visible from those angles, if they'd done them correctly for the new special editions.

No, not at all. There are probably lots of stipulations, and a version restriction may indeed be in place, but that's a pretty big restriction, don't you think? Would you sign a star multi-million dollar fullback under the stipulation that he's only allowed to play kicker?
