As usual. A negative statement from a Lucas hater just after someone posts something positive.

Well to be fair, as much as I hate the SE's at least if nothing else have no connection to the PT! So at least that something....right?

Do WE like all of the changes? No, in fact there is one change per movie that bothers me in each the OT films, but we enjoy the STORY anyway! It's the story we LOVE! Sounds like a blast!

And great post! My friends and I would have trilogy nights back when we had the old VHS tapes. Making fun of the cheesy lines and plot holes, debating possibilities according to the established "rules" of the universe was FUN!! And it was part of loving the films. People take adventure films way too seriously nowadays.

There were not any in the OT so not sure what you were watching? We use to have a blast with those tapes though as well.

"We've analyzed their attack and there is a weakness."

MASSIVE plot hole. This giant-ass space station with hundreds of thousand if not millions of Imperial troopers, officers and the like worth trillions of credits has a weakness to attack that has been discovered yet they do NOTHING to defend it? Why not send out squadrons of TIE fighters to just sit in front of the thermal exhaust port to sacrifice themselves for the greater 'good' to prevent the tiny crew of Rebels from being able to get anywhere close?

There are plot holes in pretty much any film made, ever. But whatever, trying to show reality to those ho live in their own world's will never work. Never mind the moron Imperial who decided to save 1 laser bolt worth of energy to not destroy the escape pod. Certainly their scanners could detect droids, no?

Umm..hate to break it to ya but those are not "plot holes". They were way over confident about the risk posed by small ships and they did send out the appropriate response. Your reaching man, but we could whip about 100 or more real plot holes in the PT alone. See where I'm going with this? See Official SW PT Review link below for further clarification. It's not hate man, it's just the gospel.

RLM's 'official' reviews are 'gospel', eh?

As for the OT and plot holes....why didn't they just turn the Death Star's tractor beam on when the Rebels attacked? If it was powerful enough to draw in the Falcon from what seemed like a huge distance, a scattering of Rebel fighters should've been shit out of luck. It's not like Obi-Wan destroyed it either, he simply toggled a switch at a workstation! (One of only seven according to Threepio.) All those thousands of Imperial staff aboard that ship, and not one thought to either try and/or subsequently repair the tractor beam?

There are PLENTY of plot holes in the OT, and only a totally blinkered dyed-in-the-wool prequel hater wouldn't be able to acknowledge them. If the shoe fits...

The thing is that the OT is entertaining enough to sustain a suspension of disbelief over such elements. However, this does not hold true for the PT.

Bespin is next door to Hoth.
Dagobah is much further away.
How long was Luke training with Yoda?

Yup, this is one of the most well-known plot holes in the OT.

The intensity of vitriol rages so hard that we defenders have little choice but to sit back and laugh most of the time.
Orwell would be proud.

Once more, for the cheap seats:

Many dyed-in-the-wool Star Wars fans don't see this as a "silly issue". The original, historically significant (and, yes, markedly superior) versions of classic films have been left on the scrap heap of history.

We like these movies. This situation makes us feel (sad/angry/disappointed/conflicted).

From where we sit, the only thing this sort of nonsense "defends" is the right to misrepresent the position of your opponents and showcase your own refusal to acknowledge their perfectly understandable arguments.

Or maybe I'm slipping into "irrational hatred" or "intense vitriol"?

Lucas must've done something right though; if we suddenly discovered a forty-year-old memo from Michael Curtiz indicating that he wanted Sam to be replaced by a giant talking myna bird, I can't see a bunch of fans of Casablanca running to his defense -- "These are the only true versions that exist now," etc.

At best, the Sam-as-myna-bird version would be permitted to sit on the shelf next to a respectful treatment of the original film.

You know why? Because the Sam-as-myna-bird version probably wouldn't prompt hordes of Michael Curtiz's most zealous fans to shout, "It's his movie!!! He can do what he wants with his movie!!! He's the artiste!!! Viva la causa!!!"

The next time you watch the gussied-up version of The Empire Strikes Back, when Darth Vader starts babbling about, "Alert my Star Destroyer to make preparations for my imminent arrival via shuttle 23081B through the bridge's alternate loading dock," etc., I want you to picture a giant myna bird making myna bird sounds.

Maybe then you'll understand.

That I agree with 100%. It's the simple storytelling and fun characters of the OT which makes all that stuff far less important, and the PT gives us far too much time to reflect on such things, but if a bunch of self-important "official" critics wanted to create a similar set of videos which destroyed the OT from start to finish, they could do. Oh yes.

That's why I sometimes think that RLM's Plinkett reviews are part review and part satire, because for all of the valid criticisms, there's also some extraordinarily stupid comments which avoid all common sense and the idea of filmic language (you're gonna moan about visible poison gas? In a movie?Really?) to present stuff which only the most logic-hardened nitpicker would ever come up with. I'm surprised that they didn't start it with [plinkett voice] "Umm, why is there sound in space? Space is a vacuum which sound doesn't travel in, this movie is so dumb".

And, of course, the prequel haters swallowed every second of it. Perhaps that's part of the joke?

While on Dagobah Luke not only trained in the Jedi arts with Yoda but with the League Of Shadows in the ways of the ninja. That is how he got to Bespin so quickly. Just like Batman was able to appear out of thin air all over Gothan in The Dark Knight Rises.

I swear some of you don't think hard enough about these things.

BWAHAHAHAHHHAAAAAAA!!!! I think you mean Yavin, but the point is sound - yet people will start waffling about how it's a gas giant or how the Death Star needs to recharge for ages between shots or whatever, even though none of that shit is mentioned in the film.

Why did the massive planet-destroying space station orbit the planet? To get to the moon on the other side.
