You know, I really do. I really wonder why they're so angry about this silly issue. I also wonder why they feel so entitled. No one's yet to give me a proper response aside from more vitriol against Lucas. Seriously, I'm not sure where this hostility towards Lucas and even the people who have playfully and calmly defended him against the irrational hatred in this and many other forums comes from. The intensity of vitriol rages so hard that we defenders have little choice but to sit back and laugh most of the time.

I also think it's fear. I think they're afraid because they know that the updated versions are an inferior article. Releasing the unaltered originals essentially reaffirms that.

When you have improved upon something, you don't go back to an older version…unless the older version is the better version.

Yeah, I think I get that.

Maybe not mention it in every post as your main response to everyone who tries to engage you in a discussion about this issue?

If you guys didn't take it so seriously, you might be able to see that, but instead it's just the same old irrational and uninformed complaints and hatred against Lucas.

Making a point of ones optimism and delight seems like a natural enough reaction to being miscast as hateful, no?

When that's your main response to anyone trying to engage you in a discussion, it becomes pedantic.

I would like to see a blu-ray release of the "special editions" done right.

The new versions (1997, 2004 & 2011) improve upon the original versions but each new version suffers from sloppy execution.

Just a few examples of this =>

In 1997 windows were added to Cloud City in ESB (good); when our heroes encounter Vader for the first time; in the reaction shot these windows are no longer there (like in the 1980 version - sloppy)

In 2011 Lucas added rocks in front of R2 in ANH (meh); a shot later these rocks are gone. (sloppy)
Ditto for the escape pod hatch fixed blu-screen issue in ANH. Fixed in one shot and in the next they forget to fix it. (sloppy)
In 2011 Luke's weird green sabre color on the Falcon in ANH got fixed (good); a shot later it's green again. (sloppy)

(An exhaustive list of Star Wars changes can be found here
=> http://www.dvdactive.com/editorial/a...anges-part-one )

And don't get me started on the overall lack of brightness that's fallen over the "original trilogy" since 2004. Complaining over fractions of seconds (Who shot first ?) is one thing but the lack of brightness affects the whole of the original trilogy.

So yeah, bring on the fixed "Special Edition".

(And for the record - I do not need to own every edition of Star Wars in HD. (That's just silly - 12 versions of 3 movies)

If the special editions are done right I'll be a happy camper.

Smile Yay, for Star Wars Day!

In spite of the current "discussion", September 6th is "Star Wars Day"! At least it is for me and a few very long time friends (for over 20 years). We've been doing it EVERY year since November 2nd, 2005, the day AFTER "Episode III" came to DVD. We ALL took off work to FINALLY watch The Saga in order: 1-6! It's become an annual tradition to make sure we keep in touch, and to view one of the most awesomest sagas ever made in its entirety. Of course we work different jobs now, so the date is never the same day. Just whatever works for us all to get together.

Do WE like all of the changes? No, in fact there is one change per movie that bothers me in each the OT films, but we enjoy the STORY anyway! It's the story we LOVE! From two Jedi finding a small boy, with severe co-dependency issues and amazing abilities; who grows into an awful villain because of his fear of losing those he loves, and being under the guidance of one of the most diabolically evil minds ever to be made Emperor! To eighteen years later his son is set on a path that not only crosses his, but ends up redeeming him in the end! The plotholes "caused by The Prequels"? We LOVE those, too! We have discussed what "could've happened" to make everything line up PERFECTLY. Every year we seem to come up with new theories and explanations, and it's downright fun on a bun! Can't wait!!!!!!11!!!

And 'round these parts, January 31st is remembered as the anniversary of the date (in 1997) that Star Wars began its long downward spiral continuing to this day (Greedo shooting first, the introduction of Jar-Jar Binks & Emo Anakin, and shameless Force Ghost replacements are just some of the atrocities happening to the franchise in the last 17 years). Our only hope is that sometime in 2015 the new Disney regime redeems the OT from its fallen state.

That one's always pissed me off. For the record, I love the way that they opened up Cloud City. It worked so well it looked like it had always been shot that way, as the added VFX and gorgeous golden lighting was about as artful as the SE changes got. But man, they goofed big time by not putting it into the rest of that scene with Vader. It's totally inexplicable.

I'd happily take the original version of Star Wars over the SE, but I might just prefer the SE of Empire over the original. Jedi is 50/50; while I hate the 2011 version and the 2004 is borderline, I'm quite partial to the 1997 revision. You still get the goofy additions, but at least it's got Sebastian Shaw at the end. I still want to have all three as they were, but dammit it'd be great if we were given these choices of all these different versions.

(I see Fox are doing something similar with Kingdom of Heaven: 10th Anniversary: three cuts on one disc by the looks of it. No reason why they can't do the same with the SEs of the Star Wars movies, and a separate disc can house the theatrical version to leave room for all those extra audio tracks. )
