I didn't mean to imply that it couldn't be done. I guess I'm just wondering if anyone living would know how. The changes, errors, and omissions have been so numerous since release that I sometimes wonder if anyone knows what the thing is actually supposed to sound like anymore. Some of these changes are intentional but it's obvious that with every video release comes a few more "oops" moments.

No idea if this is a legit concern or not, just something I've wondered about.

I don't know how closely you read the first paragraph but it supports something many of us here have been saying for a while now.

My first reactions to hearing the news yesterday that Disney now owns the Star Wars franchise was disbelief followed by sadness followed by anger. While I knew something like this was inevitably going to happen, and I absolutely agree that this was the decision George Lucas needed to make, I nevertheless felt sad at the passing of an era — and pissed off at how happy that would make some people.

What’s most galling about all this...

And now hateboys couldn’t be happier.

And the keyboard priests of the holy war are no doubt delighted.

To be fair though, you can hardly blame the contented, non-haters for being pissed off that other people are happy.

I mean, that does sound frustrating.

Technically the "content" fans have more "right" to post in this thread than those wanting the UOT. The UOT discussion should be in a wish list thread as it's not announced or released. Baiting goes on by both sides however none is better than the other.

I guess you didn't read the whole article. I'll just quote the relevant information to your continued claim that Lucas no longer has a say/

A possible bright side, however, was mentioned to me by my lawyer friend. He says, “Lucas could have written a moral rights clause into the purchase prohibiting re-edits or re-releases of other alternative edits. If Lucas really cares about the issue, it seems like a logical option. It would be simple to put in there and the edits would have little economic value to Disney compared to the option to extend the franchise and the technology of Skywalker Ranch.” Wouldn’t that be sweet irony? The hateboys finally get their wish to have Lucas out of the way only to have Disney’s legal army ready to defend Lucas’ wishes far into the future!

But I find it funny that so many hateboys (oh, how I like that name) find it so egregious when someone stands up for Lucas with cold hard facts and logic. So very funny.

'Lucas might have written a secret provision into the contract with Disney' is not a cold hard fact. It's pure speculation. I would go so far as to call it wishful thinking.

This is a cold, hard fact: Lucas is done changing the OT.

And you'll probably never see a release of the original versions of the films either since it's very likely he did put a provision in the deal mentioned in the article.

And Lucas might have put a provision in there as well that if he wanted to make more changes to the existing films, he could. I really hope he did. He probably didn't though, because it sounds like he was pretty much done with Star Wars and was looking forward to retiring from it and moving onto other projects besides film.

I would of course buy a release with the original version, for completist sake, but I vastly prefer the new versions.

They will be relesed. No question about it...they want everyone is the same "I can't wait camp". And when they are and sales top the 9 box set like I know they will...well I will come back here and oh it will be a glorious day for sure.

It makes no odds to me if the UOT is or isn't released. As far as I thought, it was released but then, apparently, it wasn't in widescreen and the sound was only 2.0. So the demand rages on.

Whilst I prefer the OT in its current incarnation, I don't feel such negativity towards the UOT fans to not want them to have their preferred version. Even if I have been sitting on the despecialised versions for god knows how long and yet haven't watched them once, the fact that some people prefer them really has nothing to do with me.
