I hope this kinda bickering that makes no one look good doesn't prevent a decent Blu-ray set of the original actual Star Wars movies somewhere down the road.

I support Star Wars. If a UOT only is released on BD I'll wait till I find it dirt cheap like I did the last time it was released. I don't need to rush out and pay a premium for something I already own in a lesser quality than I am accustomed to and prefer.

If it's a complete remastering of all versions, or just UTO and the definitive special edition, I might consider purchasing it for the definitive version. Beyond that, I can wait. I have ZERO interest in watching a UTO other than to see the differences for myself. I will never sit and watch any of those versions from beginning to end. There's better quality versions and more story and exposition missing from those films I chose to enjoy.

It will be nice for zealots like you to be shut up though. That is until you nitpick the hell out of whatever might be released and the *****ing and moaning starts all over again.

So do you enjoy the current release and 9 disc set? In other words are you content with the current release? Well some of us are really excited by this possible news and any tidbit for us to get the version we are wanting is cause for a celebration!

So?

You're obviously a big supporter of revising movies with better effects. That's fine, I am glad you enjoy the special editions. A lot of us however want to see the films as we first experienced them, as we grew up with them. Why is this considered bad to you? No one is trying to take away your special editions, we just want the original versions too.

All arguments about CGI and what looks better is totally, completely beside the point.

But see that's not what they're going to see. We wanted Original Unaltered Original Trilogy. And that's essentially what they gave us. Original Unaltered Original Trilogy. And what did we do? We complained about its presentation. That's what they're gonna see. The complaining. They won't care if it was justified or not. That's all they see. Complaining.

Wow, from some of these posts it seems that if Lucasfilm/Disney release the unaltered original Star Wars trilogy that they will be raping the middle age years of some fans.

That's the irony: releasing the GOUT will hurt NO ONE and there's really no rational basis for fighting against its release.

I look at it as the "gay marriage" of home video: the dark side keeps fighting against it and says that only a small amount of people really want it. They also know that it will, in no way affect their love and enjoyment of their current situation.
And the good side realizes that no one will get hurt by it and society will only benefit from it.

Agreed.

The only guess I have about their rage is they see a release of the original cuts as an attack on film revisionism and they're big proponents of film revisionism. That's my best guess.

Hollywood has pretty much turned its nose up at film revisionism across the board now, though. Lucas lost, even if some people agree with him. Even his BFF Spielberg pretty much apologized for ET and said he would never do that again. So it's a moot point now, there's nothing to fight for.

I'm super-excited for this. Best of all possible worlds. I can watch the versions of the original trilogy I grew up with in the 70's and 80's and prefer. I can still watch The Prequels which I love, despite their many flaws. And maybe I'll be able to come on Star Wars threads and talk about Star Wars without being called an 'apologist' by clowns who try to claim to have more refined taste than everybody else.

And I have to add, I lurk here a lot and rarely post, but I don't think people are filled with 'rage' in defense of Lucas. I think he's welcome to tinker all he wants as long as I eventually get the originals. I think the 'rage' is more likely a result of folks having their judgement and intelligence questioned for liking what they like.

This is not to say there aren't aesthetic criteria for judging art, and I have no problem with people having problems with Lucas though I happen to enjoy just about any iteration of Star Wars I can get my hands on. It's the snark that gets folks riled. The smug dismissals and all that.

And just some perspective: we are all posting on a Star Wars thread and there are plenty of folks who would question all of our judgements for spending this much time on it.

There's a stipulation in the sale contract that after George Lucas passes on, Disney must completely wall R2 in for good.

He's to be completely removed from the trilogy from that point on, being replaced by Jar Jar. How they're going to get the Death Star plans out of Jar Jar is anyone's guess.

I am sure getting the Death Star plans out Jar Jar would involve a lot of farting.

There's snark and snide comments on both sides, it's not exclusive to people who want the originals. For every "how can you like this shitty CGI" there's a "grow up grandpa CGI is the future" and whatnot.

People are just jerks sometimes, in general.
