Well to be fair, we're just having a rhetorical discussion pertaining to the title of "best". I enjoy all 6 too, even if my critical side has some issues here and there. But I definitely have an instinctive love for all the Star Wars films.

How much of that is nostalgia is hard to say (and that's not even really a bad thing at all). But I always have a wonderful time revisiting GL's saga.

We enjoy these films by ourselves and with others. Communal preferences do factor into this. Why even discuss this stuff if your only gonna listen to yourself?

As ive said before, i was an ESB dude but have switched over to SW. That doesnt diminish whatever popular status ESB has or make SW eclipse that popular opinion.
Take heed to the masses?

I dont think so.

That's like saying everyone should agree that The Artist was the best film of 2011 because it won the Oscar. Or think that Citizen Kane is the best film of all time because it so often takes that place on many "best film" lists.
Funny you mentioning The Artist as I ignored it for a while thinking it was typical Oscar-bait. Then I watched it and realised it deserved the awards it got!

To be fair, it's kind of an odd bone of contention to chew on.

Star Wars is also my favorite of the OT, but at the same time I personally do agree with the common consensus that Empire is the best of the three. I feel like it's the most well made, most dramatic, and has the best story and plot. But Star Wars is still my favorite.

As another personal example: I don't really like Aliens that much compared to Alien, but I don't argue against the fact that the second film is most people's favorite; a consensus of opinion isn't really something that can be debated against like it's a fallacy.

I think you might have missed my point. I intended to say that some thought other elements of the prequels were so bad that they couldn't give the music a fair shake. And complex in this case means you can't summarily dismiss them without a little more thought. It's easy to turn your thumb down and call them crap, but I do think they warrant a more focused listen. If you don't, that's cool, but as with all things, you like what you like.

I'll be the first to admit that, in continuing this line of debate, I let my own point get away from me a bit last night.

Bottom line - just because it's a consensus of opinion among a majority that a particular film is the "best", doesn't mean that everyone needs to accept that as a fact that cannot be challenged. That's all I was trying to say at the beginning of this whole thing.

oh. i thought i read somewhere it was and he made up ideas for the other movies as he went along. thanks.

Not so here. Here its perfectly fine to needlessly sh!t on Lucas time and time again.
i don't get it either. lucas made 6 pretty good Star Wars movies yet people put him down. it makes no sense lol. to spend months or years saying negative things about him or the movies is absolutely ridiculous and insane.

yeah people like to do what's trendy lol. as soon as someone says, "ESB is the best Star Wars movie", or "Wrath of Khan is the best Star Trek movie", or statements like, "remakes are always inferior to the originals", i pretty much know they're just "sheep" following the trendy crowd.

Hold on there chief. The Empire Strikes Back and Star Trek: The Wrath of Khan are the best from those series. That's just the way it is.

politicians understand the majority of the population, or "masses", are not very intelligent or ill informed. that's why complete idiots can get votes and win elections.

so yeah, if the "masses", agree something is the best, it probably isn't.

I for one like the first Star Wars (episode 4) movie the best. Yes empire strikes back gets the most love but to me Star Wars is just fun where empire is moody and dark at times. I know I know... Most fans will say that's exactly
why empire is so good. All 3 of the movies from the OT are great though.
