I can't believe all the folks that just want the special editions. I want the unaltered original trilogy first because that's what I grew up with during the 80's. But, I want the first batch of special additions as well. 4K scans of everything of course. I'll take the prequel trilogy also but no rush for those!!!

Just pull a Blade Runner and release every possible version. Then 99.9% of the fans will be happy. No more fighting, gloating, etc. Balance will be brought to the Force. Problem solved.

There's honestly no reason whatsoever to buy this set at all for those who don't have it, right? I mean, there are 3 more films going to be released, so it won't be a "complete" saga at all, and I'm sure they'll remaster all original 6 when they release those eventually, no?

The Empire Strikes Back Special Edition had one of the worst alterations ever!
Luke jumps down the Bespin shaft with the Emperor's yell/scream was played over it!

It's been pretty clear for quite some time. There will be a new box set next year before the new film. The entire Disney machine is working diligently to pare back everything Prequel as much as possible, and the focus is shifting almost entirely to the OT, and the video release will be a culmination of this leading into Episode 7. We can also expect the Vintage Collection action figure line to replace Star Wars Black (for the 3.75" line, the 6" line will likely remain TBS).

I severely doubt there are any rights issues any more, period (it is believed by many insiders and has been rumored for years that as part of the deal to distribute the prequels, Fox gave back their interest - the copyright notices that changed on Star Wars on subsequent releases after the deal was signed support this). If there are any distribution rights issues, you can be assured that Disney has this all tied up with a neat little bow and has made arrangements, if any were needed.

Just about everything else is total fan regurgitation of incorrect or incomplete facts or to be honest, way over thinking some things. In any case, the Star Wars films will be coming out sometime in the next year, mark my word, anyone wants to bet me step right on up. Episode 7 has the potential to not only be the highest grossing Star Wars film (even accounting for inflation), but likely the highest grossing film of the decade. It's not unfathomable for it to be the highest grossing film of the century, giving Avaturd a run for it's money.

No one is going to miss this opportunity to exploit the OT.

Well, if you want to wait until after 2020....

But I have a feeling what will be coming out next year will be something that many of us will very happily double dip on, if only because it is likely to include many of the extras that were held from the 2011 Blu-rays, notably things like Empire of Dreams.

Lol I remember going WTF when I first heard it when played on TV. Thankfully it has since been removed.

I vote for the original theatrical on blu. And, if they want to make this the "Blade Runner" version then that is ok too. Not like it would`t sell, right? I own more versions of SW than I should but hell yeah I would buy it again if it includes the original theatrical. If it doesn't include it then I can't see me supporting these releases again. I will support VII, VIII and IV (unless they totally suck ).

http://video.cnbc.com/gallery/?video=3000328161

After the rumors this summer about a blu ray release and now this quote from Iger, I have even more hope now that they will release it. It just makes too much sense. Not only will it make money, but it would be a huge marketing tool to help establish EP VII as a return to the magic of the original Star Wars universe, and evoke a sense of nostalgia among all the Gen-X'ers who grew up with the trilogy.
It really does, doesn't it?
It would be marvelous to be sure.

All versions, with updated ILM VFX, except for the OOT, of course.

Those VFX in the OOT are surely going to look glorious in HD, let alone 4K. Lol

I pray it's not just a digital release. I don't think they can afford to pull that one though, as they know it would disgruntle the VERY vocal "fan"base of these films, and that's the last thing they want to do, I reckon.

That wouldn't work, because only the definitive edition is in great condition.
The rest doesn't even have lossless audio, so it would make loads of fans very angry.

They would have to release all versions, in the humanly best quality, or else it will be hell to pay.
Even then, people would find reasons to complain:
The Holiday Special isn't included! Or: The Holiday Special isn't included!

Or: It doesn't look and feel exactly like when I first saw it in the cinema at age 6.

that's why a remastering would be needed. and lossless? all they have to do is go back to the 7 track recording they pulled the audio from originally and voila... NOT that hard. they have the elements, they have the tools, all it takes is the elbow grease. it's NEVER been that hard to release the OUT... sources in the know have known that for decades. it's just that Lucas didn't want to

i just prefer the movies as the director originally intended if he had the money and technology back then. its his movie.

Kirshner died. So unfortunaltely, he can't say anything.
However, Lucas wrote the story so some feel he has more say...

I would be truly heartbroken if next year rolls around an they only repackage the current blus.

But I don't think that's going to happen.

Personally I don't need EVERY version of SW original trilogy. Although I do see how the true hardcore fans would want the 97, 04 and 11 versions. I certainly wouldn't mind all versions included like Blade Runner.

Realistically though I'd be happy with the Theatrical version of the OT restored and one final Disney produced SE version of the OT. This time let Disney have their own team do a TRUE quality control on the SE and make their own updates and tweaks. Simply restoring the Greedo/Han scene, making the light sabers consistent and getting rid of Vader's noooo's would win them instant respect.

I was never against the SE...it was a can of worms GL opened. I would however like a special edition of SW that is done with care and respect. Fix the things that should have been fixed years ago like color timing and all matte boxes and sabers....THEN feel free to throw in an extra AT-AT or a make Greedo blink.

On that note, for the special features a documentary that catalogs all the changes in the special editions over the years would be awesome.

I'd love it if they released a set with all versions of the movies, or at the very least the unaltered OT packaged with everything from the '11 Complete Saga box set. I've held off on buying it in hopes of something like that being released.

They should release each movie Individually but include all versions of each movie that came out previously. For each film, add 2 distinct Blu-Ray Bonus Disks FILLED with Special Features to each movie. I want them to use all 50Gb on the Bonus Disks! Port over ALL Legacy Special Features! No Movie in this "set" gets The same Bonus Disk. They are all different from each other, like Harry Potter's "Creating the World of..." Disks
Pretty much, turn each film into a Blade Runner-Like Set!
Each set should be at least 6 Disks!

Star Wars: Episode I: The Phantom Menace - 6 Disks
