Yeah, I'm OK with that. Still, it be cool if Disney and Fox made an agreement and Fox co-distributed the films on their behalf. Just sayin'. :P

Answer: Fox no longer owns the original Star Wars, LucasFilm does (again, check the credits on your Blu-Ray). Fox has the privilege to distribute the films for LucasFilm through 2019.

The VHS's had, if I remember correctly, 2 different Introduction interviews with Lucas.
1 was years before the Prequels were announced to even being worked on.
I also think that they were different on each of the movies.

Of course one could also get "From Star Wars to Jedi" as a stand-alone VHS tape in the US (or stand-alone LD in Japan), so that does muddy the waters a bit.

HAHAHAHAHAHA
Letterboxed Widescreen versions of Star Wars, The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi.
These films are in their Original Full-Screen Presentation.

No wonder so many people for so many years were confused about AR (and plenty still are actually).

Check this out. It definitely sounds like Disney is going to release the OT in one form or another - whether its the special edition or the theatrical. Here's Bob Iger stating that releasing them before EP VII would be "a great idea."

After the rumors this summer about a blu ray release and now this quote from Iger, I have even more hope now that they will release it. It just makes too much sense. Not only will it make money, but it would be a huge marketing tool to help establish EP VII as a return to the magic of the original Star Wars universe, and evoke a sense of nostalgia among all the Gen-X'ers who grew up with the trilogy.

Every other week I have to plow through this again...
I posted this a while ago because it seems curious to me that HBO doesn't show Episodie IV with the rest of the films

I don't mean to burst your happy bubble, but it is going to be a Digital Release on Disney Movies Anywhere. It is how they will get around the FOX Distribution Rights.

I guess that is the one question people have never asked - what is included in the distribution deal? Back when the original films were released, even home video was still not really a factor. Does Fox own the theatrical rights, the theatrical and home video rights and if so, does that include digital distribution? Pretty much anytime a new form of distribution comes out there is a fight over who actually owns that right. That very well could be the loophole that Disney needs - Fox owns physical media but digital was never included and therefore Disney can do whatever they want digitally. Of course this creates a whole different issue - people want the original uncut versions but without the Fox fanfare and logo at the beginning, it isn't original

As I said before, HBO Latinamerica will show a marathon without Episode IV, this is the first time that HBO will broadcast Episodes I, II and III and that's because Fox was the distributor and Fox movies are exclusive of Cinecanal in Latin America. Now Disney is the distributor of Lucasfilm and that is the reason that HBO is doing the incomplete Marathon. So far HBO doesn't answer why there is no Episode IV and the question is becoming common and intriguing in any of its social pages:

But that only covers one part of the world. Who knows how the rights are in other parts? That is going to be the biggest problem with these films - who has the rights to what and what deals have they made with other companies about these films?

They'd hardly suck. 4K restorations of the original trilogy would be serious improvements over the 2K special editions. Ideally you'd want restored originals and remastered special editions with all new effects.

Does anyone know which version is the cheapest that has the international style packaging, but without any ratings logos? Thanks in advance.

LOVED that interview. Did you see his face when the reporter asked him if they were going to release all the old star wars? She asked exactly the right question, and I don't think he was expecting to have to answer it. Yup, they're coming my friends. Makes sense to do it by next fall instead of waiting till after EP VII!

Yeah it'll suck not seeing CGI that has aged worse than the original effects they replaced, and no Jedi Rocks.

Personally, I hope we get the original unaltered as well as the Special Edition versions from the 90's. Those were the first versions I saw myself and I think the changes are much more subtle compared to the over-the-top alterations in the 2000's and with the recent Blu-ray release changing even more...
