Oh there will be quite a few, but probably not record breaking. The set as it is wasn't record breaking. Of course you will argue that this mysterious massive segment of the fanbase is waiting, sure. As I said, nobody can prove these mysterious numbers one way or another. The only proof will be in the actual UOT BD release pudding. Don't get me wrong, I hope this BD release breaks every sales record known to man(for whatever that's worth), but logic, and history dictate that it won't.
Another measuring stick would be the original set dvd sales numbers? I can't recall but were they the biggest sellers at that time?

I will surely buy a UOT set if it comes out. I would also buy a nice transfer of the latest editions. In fact, I personally would be fine with the latest editions if they only make Han shoot first in all of them.

Please don't flay me alive!!

Han did shoot first....in Empire, but then Vader took his blaster.

I don't think we can go by the sales of the original Blu-Ray set, though. I'm sure there are quite a few who didn't buy it because it wasn't the originals, but there are probably also a lot of people (I don't know how many) who didn't buy it because they knew it was from the same transfer as the DVDs.

Well until a UOT BD set is released, we have to get numbers from somewhere.
Personally I couldn't give a rat's ass if the UOT BD set(if/when it's released) doesn't even crack the top 1,000,000 in sales...I'm going to get it and that's all that matters to me.

Damn, some of you people here are nothing but extremely rude and annoying!
While film opinion is obviously subjective there are definitely movies that come as close to being objectively loved or hated as possible. Phantom Menace is one of those films, on the hated side. The Godfather would be an example on the loved side.

If you say "The Godfather is a bad movie!" then you're entitled to that opinion, but 95% of film fans are also entitled to think you're crazy. Same with loving Phantom Menace and thinking it's a better film than Empire Strikes Back.

Well... the 'most people think this' or '95% of film fans think' is attempting to sound rational, but it's not rational. You and your friends are not '95% of film fans.' It's totally fine to not like something, and I'm not calling you out on it. I've made my peace with Phantom Menace- it's not what I wanted, it's not a classic and I'm okay to like the ones I like and not be mortally offended by the others. But for all the extremely vocal talk of 'apologists' defending bad movies there are their diametric opposites that need to find validation in how bad these movies are. They need to make arch blanket statements that seem to me to fulfill the same need of those who want to claim Lucas is the greatest filmmaker who ever lived.

Then there are folks who sit in the middle and think the new movies are not the best or the worst things ever made, but are just kind of there as interesting pieces that don't quite work. But how the arch defenders and the arch detractors think they are not two sides of the same coin will forever be beyond me.

Well I'm speaking of film enthusiasts. I'm sure the percentage of Godfather love is much lower if you take a random sampling of anyone over 13, but that's not really proof of anything or a useful statistic. My main point is that while film appreciation is always subjective you can definitely get a large group of enthusiasts together and come to a consensus on certain films, which is about as objective as you're ever going to get in this hobby.

I would guess if you sat down 100 people, 50 being hardcore film enthusiasts like us and the other 50 being film critics of substantial renown, 95% would say The Godfather is a great film and Phantom Menace is a flawed film.

Whether that means anything to you or not is, again, subjective. I'm merely talking about "as close to consensus as possible" here.

Well, go vote, because there's only six hours left, and Star Wars is only ahead by eight votes.
