I had not heard anything to suggest they were finished with the prequel conversions or that work started on the original trilogy. Where was that information given or discussed? I'm not particularly fond of the idea of Disney making 3D versions and then just sitting on them, myself. Granted, if work had already started on the original trilogy, then that would mean it was guaranteed to be based on the revised version(s) and not the original unaltered.

Based on that information, maybe Disney should just issue a 3D trilogy Blu-ray set at some point. Except Disney of America doesn't even see much point to that anymore, because almost everything they even bother to release in 3D in America doesn't make it to Blu-ray here as well. Outside of select Marvel films, all the other Disney efforts seem to be getting a 3D shaft. Perhaps some of it is also Disney's general lack of interest in still pursuing 3D domestically?

Regardless, I think it's clear from the pull of the 3D re-releases that Disney did not consider it a high priority and that the numbers disappointed for the Phantom Menace 3D release. If it had made significantly more at the box-office, Disney would go ahead with it regardless of making a new Star Wars film. I don't know if the number is accurate, but I found a site listing the budget of the 3D conversion of Phantom Menace at 13.3 million. Add in marketing costs for the domestic release and the profit margin lowers. And Disney would have to share profits with Fox.

I do wish all six films would be finished in 3D at some point. There is actually another article I found suggesting George Lucas had been working on a 3D release for the first Star Wars for eight years and that the amount spent totaled more than the budget for Star Wars. I would hope some of that progress would be kept and that not everything would get scrapped.
Disney put a halt on everything, not only the 3D movies, during the buy including games (Star Wars 1313) toys, and high-end collectibles. They also ended The Clone Wars animated series which was at its peak. None of it had to do with TPM 3D or distancing themselve from the PT (which is just a rumor/ conjecture made up by net nerds). Now that they have a hold on what direction they want to go with the property, we know that there are games being worked on (Battlefront 3) toys, high-end collectibles (from the OT, PT, Rebels, and TCW) and there is now a new animated show (Rebels). ROTS will also be shown at Celebration this April along with Menace and Clones. If Disney wanted to distance themselves from the PT, they'd just show the OT whether it is the SE or UOT, or just promote their own Rebels brand. Disney knows there are fans of all kinds (OT, PT, TCW, Rebels) when it comes to Star Wars, and they will not alienate one when there is $$$ to be made.

We all like Star Wars.
We all like different Episodes and different Editions for different reasons.
Why must we be a fandom separated?

Because some people inexplicably rate ROTJ and TPM (!) over ANH and TESB, despite all evidence to the contrary? Another would be the PT/SE brigade's insistence that the changes to the OT to make it conform to the PT were a good thing.

Let's face facts, the fandom has already been irreconcilably divided for 15+ years. The only good solution is for Disney to put out the UOT on BD and let the two sides simply walk away from each other. The OT fans will be happy with a quality high-def release on Blu-ray, and the PT/SE people can go on watching Jar-Jar and Lil' Ani while eating cereal in their Underoos.

Why are you throwng Return of the Jedi in there with The Phantom Menance? Way to be a separatist there, saying ROTJ is just as bad as the prequels.

Either you like the entire original Triology, or you don't. It's like a betrayal of the Star Wars purists.

I didn't say that ROTJ was as bad as TPM (and is clearly isn't), only that both films were each worse than ANH and TESB. At least ROTJ has the entire Luke/Vader/Emperor thing going for it (unlike TPM which has no redeeming features), but those Ewoks are almost proto-Gungans to me...

Everyone likes some stuff others don't, and vice versa. The only reason it's a "problem" is because some people take it personally.

Honestly the only true change that makes true sense is adding Hayden to Return of the Jedi. and here's my reasoning. When Anakin returns as a force ghost, he should be looking like Anakin Skywalker. And in a way he did. Before the Prequels, the guy that they had for Anakin was Anakin as he was. But as of the Prequels, Anakin was portrayed by Hayden. So the Anakin we get at the end of Return of the Jedi should be an older looking Hayden. And that's what Lucas did. Though to be fair what he should have done was age Hayden up to look the appropriate age that he would be at the time Return of the Jedi takes place and not keep him looking like his young Revenge of the Sith self.

But they won't be. If they are doing a better transfer of the movies I for one will be very annoyed if they do not have BOTH the UOT and the Special Editions.

I think it bothers people who feel like the PT is superior, that there is a whole group of people out there that will rally around anything Star Wars related simply because SW is in the title. They are likely the same people who are going to see movies the likes of Transformers and Twilight.

Mark my words, if a quality UOT set is released, most of them will buy it as well.

What the hell do you care if people prefer the PT over the OT. What does it matter in the grand scheme of life? I'm sure you like plenty of movies I would deem terrible as well.

Seriously, some of you guys/gals take this stuff way too seriously. After all, they're only fantasy movies. Enjoy them. Hate them. But don't judge other people on what they like/dislike better cause the same could be said for you.
