John knoll supervised only, prime focus did the conversion.

That's quite correct, Knoll oversaw it but PF did the conversion work. They couldn't even re-render the CG because ILM didn't have the tech to read the files any more.

The conversion was decent. Special effects looked great, other scenes looked flat, and the DNR'd transfer stands is more noticeable on the big screen than on a tv. I imagine that the other two prequels would fare much better given the digital photography and large amounts of CG.

I'm skeptical of an OUT announcement this soon after the digital copies, but I'm always hopeful.

I thought it was okay, it didn't help that the version I saw was cropped at the sides though.

given their track record and other past movies, this is a major head scratcher as to why the conversion / projection of the final project just under-delivered.

I agree, they're one of the best conversion houses out there. I'm still not quite sure I saw the conversion at its best though, it'd be nice to evaluate it in the home.

1 - Like I said, The same company. I knew it wasn't ILM or I would have said so, I just couldn't remember who did it.

2 - I did say that it was an ok conversion.

We'll get 3D versions of the Prequels on BD before we get the Original Trilogy in an UnAltered State...

We might even get 3D Special Editions of the OT before the UnAltered...

Have to agree. We have a couple of years to fill before the 40th anniversary which is where my bet remains.

I don't see any way they announce a new disc release a week after the big push on the digital release. No way.

The version I saw was fine, technically, but it was still underwhelming. Titanic and Jurassic Park blew it out of orbit. The best part was being abe to watch it with an audience. Even in my rural area, people showed up in costume, cheered at the opening crawl and credits, and a bunch of kids started whispering excitedly when Yoda appeared. It was fun to see people get excited about Star Wars. It makes me look forward to Ep7.

yes both in fact did - and I thought I remember reading somewhere Lucas himself bemoaned the fact that Ep 1's conversion didn't hold a candle to 'Titanic's conversion.

Why is everyone assuming that there will be a Bluray announcement today?

I thought the big event today was the release of the Episode 7 trailer.
