The reference to a "print" might just mean a dupe print of the video original, not uncommon at the time. And some people use the word "print" to mean any sort of original source material.

I hate watching movies windowboxed due to all the wasted space (even though that would preserve all the available resolution of the non-anamorphic image), but zooming it in to fill the screen is just awful on my 55" LED.

It's of course very much watchable, but its not pleasing to look at..

The only portion of the Holiday Special produced on film is the Boba Fett animated short by Nelvana. Other than some archival bits and pieces from the original film, the special itself was shot on broadcast video.

Just a nitpick: there's no such thing as an LED.

There are LCDs with LED backlighting...or OLED TVs...but not LED TVs.

I hate the Jabba's Dance number, Greedo shooting first, "Noooo", Obi-Wan's frat boy yell in ANH, extra rocks in front of R2-D2, and the size changing door on Jabba's Palace.

I can give or take everything else. Ideally, if I can get an edition with the few changes I like while getting rid of the stupid crap, I would be possibly happier than receiving the UOT

Seriously, with all of the changes, Disney should just have a "Create your own Star Wars Trilogy" disc-on demand Just click boxes corresponding to what features you want.
This is why so many of us have just thrown up our hands and asked for the UOT. Having the enhanced Battle of Yavin or an opened up Clod City is cool, but I'd rather have the old stuff if it means doing things like getting rid of ANH Jabba and restoring Solo's and Fett's characters.

Yeah technically that's true, but I prefer to call it my LED display because I also have a non-LED LCD display which in turn I just call my LCD display.

This is more infuriating than the PT vs. UOT debates.

I zoomed in to watch the non-anamorphic True Lies DVD last night and was surprised how okay it looked. I have a really good upscaling player though.

In other words, "We will continue releases with the crappy 11 year-old transfers and see how many more years we can get out it. Maybe we can get at least 15 years out of it! No one wants to spend any money restoring one of the largest franchises in history. No one at Lucasfilm really cares about quality."

I know what you mean. As much as I long for a meticulously restored blu-ray release of the UOT, when the chips are down, I can live with the DVDs for the time being.

But there too, my player gives good upscale.

This shouldn't come as a shock, sad as it is.
I can only speculate, but I think Disney is just sitting back and seeing just how: Bad/Good/Very Good/Out of this World Good VII does during it's worldwide theatrical run, before they even consider the originals.

I thought it made sense to release the UOT before Episode VII...but I'm guessing they're waiting a couple more years for the 40th Ann, or maybe release it with the blu-ray of Ep VII. I figured the 4k transfers might've been for the 3D conversions, since that's what Lucasfilm was already doing before Lucas sold the company... Oh well, I just discovered The Despecialized versions, although the ROTJ transfer sucks

So how does Jedi Anakin's lightsaber end up in this new Force Awakens trailer? Luke got his hand cut off at Bespin, losing both in the process.

They may have thought about some sort of OT tie-in to help sell Ep VII, but after the amazing response to the latest trailer they need no help at all. The movie will dominate the box office throughout early 2016 and then the presumed home video release in Q3/Q4 will do the same (we might even get a UHD BD), so with 2016 tied up it makes perfect sense to leave the restored OT until the 40th Anniversary in 2017. Ep VIII and the UOT will be a helluva combo.

But if they are going to release the UOT during 2017 for the 40th anniversary, wouldn't that constitute a "plan"? The FB post says they don't have any plans for original unaltered trilogy films' releases.

The post says "at this time." Since 2017 is two years away, I don't consider that "at this time."

I wouldn't read too much into it.

They have to deny it because anything else would be confirmation that it's coming. And they're not going to let the cat out of the bag on some facebook comment.
