So today's the day when Disney announces the untouched OT on BD, right?

RIGHT?!

I thought the scream was better in the BD version too. It sounded like something you would run away from.

Complete soundtracks for the prequels. Honestly it baffles me that this HASN'T happened.

And not like that "Ultimate Edition" soundtrack that The Phantom Menace got. I didn't like how the tracks "bled into" each other resulting in tracks ending abruptly and some being really short. Not to mention some of the tracks were plagued with random spots of static "PSHHH!!!" noise.

I want releases like the original trilogy. Although I'd love it if they came out with "dialogue" versions of Across the Stars and Battle of the Heroes like they did with Durl of the Fates. THAT is a great track.
I agree.

Also the OT soundtracks need to be re-released with better mastering & the cues that have still yet to be released.

The film version of Lapti Nek still isn't commercially available.

The OT soundtrack releases are all over the place.

You've got:

The original releases

The 1993 anthology box set

The 1997/2004 Special Edition releases

None of these releases are definitive.

Well, you could own it to... you know... own the movies. And not really care what's written on the box. Just a thought.

P.S. Any chance of the unaltered original trilogy on BD this year went down the flusher when the digital copies came out. Too much press and hype around that to undercut it with new BDs right after. No new discs for a while yet, maybe when the new movie comes to disc.

That and while you may get a newer boxset sometime in the future, who knows what changes they will make to them before another set gets released?

Spielberg back in the Jaws, Close Encounters, E.T, Raiders, Schindler's List days, sure. Spielberg today, no. I'm not sure what the issue is and I only met the guy once, but I think it might be that in the early days, he really felt the need to prove himself and now he feels totally in control. So back then, everything he did seemed either new or presented at such a high level of quality that it seemed new and exciting. But I really don't want to see "Star Wars" brought down to the level of "Crystal Skull".

In fact, I never realized this until this moment, but I actually believe that "Crystal Skull" was a far worse film than the Star Wars prequels.

With Lucas out of the loop I really doubt there are ever anymore changes to the original 6 films. Disney won't bother with that crap, outside of maybe some digital cleanup.

I would easily take Crystal Skull over Phantom Menace or Clones. It's probably about even with Revenge of the Sith, maybe a bit behind.

Indeed. At least Crystal Skull felt like an Indiana Jones movie (despite not being as good as Raiders or Crusade), while the PT most certainly didn't feel like the OT.

Did anyone get a message saying their post were awaiting moderation (I'm not sure I was quoting a post that might have been in the process of been deleted)?

The schadenfreude is strong in this thread. Today should be a celebration about the thing we all love: Star Wars!

Sky are running all 6 movies back-to-back. Anyone else doing a marathon?

I don't know what movies you guys have been watching, but TinTin was electric -- the most fun I've seen Spielberg have in a long time behind the lens, just a total tour de force. I rank it higher than Last Crusade and certainly Crystal Skull. War Horse was beautifully staged. impeccably acted, and straight from the heart. Lincoln -- I shouldn't even need to defend Spielberg's work in Lincoln.

I think it's worth it; keep an open mind. I'm the walking stereotype of UOT purist and longtime "Special Edition" hater and "Prequel Trilogy" hater... but after that new trailer for Ep. VII premiered a couple weeks ago, I went out and bought the "Lucas Six". And you know what? The flaws are absolutely still annoying, but I've "let go the hate" and enjoyed them for what they are. Every one of those damn prequels has plenty of good moments, so I concentrate on those. And John Williams' score is the glue that holds it all together.

Not gonna lie, I needed some Sam Adams "Rebel IPA" to get me through the first half of Phantom Menace -- Jar Jar and everything that happens on Tatooine in that movie are pretty difficult to digest -- but everything after that was smooth sailing and more enjoyable than not.

Certainly now is the time to buy these movies on blu-ray if you EVER think you'll want to watch them, 'cuz they'll never have the iconic 20th Century Fox Fanfare again. That was a big part of why I finally caved and bought 'em.

Enjoy!

When I bought the saga set I tried to view them as if this was the first time I was seeing them and that was how they were originally released. It made my viewings more enjoyable than when I was constantly comparing them to the originals.
