What you really want is From Star Wars to Jedi along with Empire of Dreams. That way you can compare the two and see where he has done a total 360 on half the things he said along time ago.

There's a little known rots deleted scene, where Anakin uses the force to control Padmes mind, and make her give him a striptease. At least that's what you'd think they did by looking at his face! Lol

Don't get me wrong, there is some good stuff here and there in the complete BD set, but most of it is disappointing and even most hardcore fans would be all set with the DVD documentaries.
I think the extra features on The Complete Saga set are fantastic, although not perfect, of course. Lots of new stuff. Just have to dig in a little.

Me too. I like that it has OT deleted scenes and vintage OT making-of featurettes. Plus the 30th anniversary discussion of Empire Strikes Back. Very happy to have all the features that are currently available on disc. It's crazy that there's 7 bonus discs worth of content when you include the DVDs, and there's still more features out there that can be released later.

Bi-polar George couldn't keep track of what he said between all of the vintage docs so he had to put new stuff on the BD release. I am surprised we didn't get new commentaries exclaiming how he had intended Hayden Christensen to appear at the end of Jedi when writing the treatment for A New Hope even though he wasn't born yet.

Yup, I can't says I was impressed with the extras. The disc of documentaries is mostly fluff or bits I've already got, and the trilogy specific discs are a pain to wade through just to get to a few short clips here and there. The OT deleted scenes are good, sure, but that's not enough to redeem it and I'm still sore that they didn't at least include the existing prequel deleted scenes in HD. LFL are absolute dicks when it comes to making 'complete' releases.

There's good stuff there depending on how deep you want to dive in, but overall most people will be thoroughly satisfied with the four big making-of documentaries on the DVDs. That's all I meant.

Besides the fact that much of the behind-the-scenes on the puppetry was sadly made redundant by their wanton CGI replacement in the SEs, 10 words explain why "From Star Wars to Jedi" didn't make the cut on the 2011 BD set:

It's no coincidence that FSWTJ didn't get posted by the official Star Wars Youtube channel until well after Lucasfilm was sold to Disney...

I just bought the collection and would like the opinions of many: Do most viewers start seeing it in chroniligical order, (Episodes 1- 3) or by release date (Episodes IV - VI)?

I prefer watching them in release date order. The prequels are more like a bonus flashback of what could have happened "from a certain point of view", and aren't essential to the progression of the story/series. Just recently, I was going to watch all six, but instead chose to watch only 4-6 while I was feeling hyped over the newest Force Awakens trailer. When it gets closer to the December theatrical release, I plan to watch 4-6 again, followed by 1-3.

usually it's 4, 5, 6 ... then 15 minutes of episode I before I realize I made a horrible mistake and put those discs away for another 5 years..

Have you ever seen the films? If not watch 4,5 and 6 first. If you have seen them then however you want.

I watch them in release order, which is the order I first saw them in. I know the naming implies that the story is complete and coherent if you watch them in numerical order, but I've tried that and to my mind it doesn't work. Maybe the experience would be different, though, if you'd never seen any of them. Your surprises and some of the suspense would be in different places from mine.

Thank you all for your responses. I have seen all six before, though its been many years. Based on the many opinions, I will go ahead and see all six films in order of release date.

Yeah, it really was pretty average at best. If someone wants to attempt crashing the Internet and searching back in this thread around release time, you'll see myself and a few others pointing that out. No where did Lucasfilm claim it was "definitive" in any way, because it wasn't. There was almost a disc worth of fluff, several key documentaries, including the single most important one, as well as other materials known to exist.

In retrospect, it was brilliant - Lucas proved once again that Star Wars was still evergreen on home video, added some nice change to the coffers, and at the same time kept enough material back that anyone who purchased the company would have ample unreleased material to work with in the future post-purchase.

Seriously!

He is reminding me a lot of Madonna lately. Both she and George seem aware of the Internet, but don't understand that the rules apply to them as well when it comes to controlling information. For example, Madonna was on Stern a month or two back, and (to paraphrase) said how her "shoe fell off" so that's why she was rolling around on the ground when she did the "Like A Virgin" performance on the VMA's back in '84. She wasn't kidding, she told it like a story.

Before the show was even over, someone had put the video of the VMA's up on YouTube and replaced the audio with what she said in the interview, and you clearly see that both shoes were on the entire time.

George seems the same to me - just hasn't figured out yet that we all watch everything they do, we know more about some of this stuff than they do, so you can't get away with the kind of "creative" storytelling/retconning that once was possible.

Last winter I did a run through of all the various commentaries on all six films, and due to how they were constructed and taken from various times, he contradicts himself pretty regularly just within them. And that's just a drop in the bucket when you look at all his interviews and various other sources.

That's why I've believed for quite some time that when all is said and done, Lucas will be remembered for creating two epic stories equally - Star Wars, and the creation myth around Star Wars.

That's not new. She's told the story that way for years.
