I agree-- It would be interesting and kind of cool for them to do some kind of mass "archive" edition with all of the options and a guide explaining them. But if they simply ended up using the versions that they used for "bonus material" on the second DVD release I'd never have another complaint or criticism about the UOT for the rest of my life, and I imagine at least 90% of Star Wars/film fans would feel the same.

In comparison, the 1993 mix (used on the THX releases and 2006 bonus DVDs) went back to the 1977 70mm mix (explaining the lack of the "tractor beam" line) and punched up some sound effects.
The story of Star Wars LP was released in 77 and had part of the line...

So the mono mix needs to be included if ever released to appease everyone...

This is from the local news for my area. Apparently this 40+ year old man just moved to the planet Earth from the cave he was living in under a huge rock because it's the first time he's ever seen Slave Leia and boy is he outraged and powerless to explain to his young daughters what they are seeing.

Stupid man wonders why Slave Leia has a chain around her neck. Intelligent men and women wonder why he has one around his ... does Jabba know he's missing?

Sigh ... you can't make crap like that up ... "honey put down your naked Barbie and tell the man with the camera how offensive this completely inoffensive thing is ..."

I hope they enjoy their trip to next year's Comic Con. Are they in for a surprise!

But the original. If anything they would end up being more offended by Jedi Rocks than Slave Leia in a metal bikini.

Shit. Star Wars fans had thought they'd found the elusive Slave Leia Philly Exclusive. That has a six foot-long Philly Cheesestake instead of the spear thing ...

Does everyone have to have a go at the prequels? Slave Leia isn't even in it! Although Chained Padme is ...

Anyway it's nice to see stores stocking the figures. I haven't seen many in the UK apart from the little ones.

It doesn't matter which version. The story is the same.
Besides, if the slave outfit disturbs them that much, they won't even get to the song!

Oh man that's my local news. What a weird time to suddenly have concerns about that outfit, 30+ years later and after it completely entered the cultural consciousness.

The best part is that they clearly didn't get the outraged responses they were looking for from other Target guests because all the mothers they asked are filmed in front of the Toys R Us down the street (TRU is out of the shot but that Avalon Carpet and Tile is right next to TRU) I wish I had been shopping at Target or TRU when this was filmed but most likely they didn't even ask any fathers what they thought.

Well, let's be honest...it's not completely inoffensive.

Let's assume for the sake of discussion that as film images go a scantily-clad slave girl with a chain around her neck is just good, clean, wholesome fun.

Is 'slave girl, complete with dog-collar' really an appropriate toy?

I dunno, I'm not sure the people questioning this are necessarily out of their minds.

Yeah, I can understand how people wouldn't be completely okay with it, and it may indeed be a bit questionable to make slave Leia toys for kids.

I always did find it kinda funny how, in the Star Wars film that (pre-TPM anyway) most obviously panders to very young children, Lucas threw in Jabba's palace which is a pretty dark place if you think about the implications of what goes on there.

The new Black Series line, both 3 inch tall and 6 inch tall, are marketed at adult collector's, so the Slave Leia figure is not really meant for kids.

I watched the movie itself as a little kid and somehow emerged unscathed.

You can go on pretending you don't have a weird slavegirl fetish but you aren't fooling anyone. The reason no one ever calls you on it is because everyone is terrified you'll chain them up and have them choke you.

I haven't been in a Toys R Us in a long time. If they have an adult collectors section now then yeah, maybe a double-take is an odd reaction. But if they're just on the shelves with the rest of the toys then I can see a reasonable parent seeing a chained, half-naked slave girl and thinking 'erm, wtf'.

Is that the test for whether something is completely inoffensive? I watched a lot of Charlie Chan movies when I was a kid and as far as I can tell I came through it more or less intact but I think it would still be hard to argue that Charlie Chan movies are completely inoffensive.

I mean, fair enough I guess.

I am someone who never finds the human body offensive, or it's depiction exploitative, so the bikini thing is a non-issue for me. The only question would be is the idea of a woman being kept as a (presumably) sex slave on a chain too adult for kids to see? When I write it out like that I can see a case for it, but I think when you watch the movie it's so subtle and vague it never really connects with kids on that level.

Today though, with the internet and everyone having a bullhorn, it does perhaps pose a greater problem. Still, am I going to show my son Return of the Jedi when he's still a little kid? Hell yeah I am. So I dunno.

Leia in a tiny bikini with a chain around her neck is subtle and vague? Thank God the box itself clears up the subtlety then, by calling it her "slave outfit."

I am personally all for it, and if I was a politician it would be one of my main platforms. Bread for every cupboard, wood for every fireplace, a sexy slavelady for every child.
