When and where did he say this? Not that I doubt you, it's just Lucas has a habit of saying one thing one day and then changing his mind the next.

Also, Rebels HAS addressed this directly. The pilot showed the Empire recruting regular people and another episode has the main character going undercover as a recruit.

Well there you go. I haven't seen any of Rebels and know next to nothing about it so I wouldn't know.

Yep. The takeaway from this thread is that Lucas lacks vision.

It's what happens when you make your fiction backwards. There's a million things you have to take into consideration to make it all flow and connect without retconning or having continuity mistakes. Most things that aren't even obvious at first. The moral of the story is sequels that are prequels are harder than it seems.

Like I said, heard it from Lucas himself on the commentary. I don't really know enough about Star Wars to debate it further.

How about a happy middleground where a lot of them were clones and others were conscripts? Makes sense to me.

Agreed. Lucas would have needed to remake the originals to make it work the way he wanted. Instead, all of these continuity issues exist along with hurting the originals from his changes.

I'm not interested into the horrid prequels, frankly. Terrible movies. Just the third one is slightly better... slightly.

I will buy ANH, TESB and my absolute fave: ROTJ.

Hopefully, no inserted nineties crap or (badly) re-done CGI.

Qui-Gon Jin: Too moral to simply take the hyperdrive from Watto. Decides to play mind games with the creature and leave him dead broke. Risking the life of a young boy in the process.

Not to mention instead of having all the Naboo soldiers with blasters stay and help fight Darth Maul, he tells them to take off.

Not to mention, he decides to fight Darth Maul, instead of force blasting the sith a 100 feet as soon a the doors slid open.

Qui-Gon, not a man of action, likes to see how things play out...

Qui-Gon could have just sold the ship somewhere for a super large amount of money and then taxi'd everyone to Coruscant. Or since George Lucas likes his movies to rhyme, hire a pilot at a Mos Espa cantina to take them there.

Apparently Anthony Daniels isn't entirely thrilled with the prequels. And he confirms Lucas's lack of collaboration in making them... something many of us have long suspected....

Anthony Daniels isn't thrilled with much of anything.

He spoke very highly of the prequels when they were first coming out.

of course not, no sane actor bashes their own movie when it first comes out and is making them money based off press. It's always years later when they're away from retaliatory issues that they say their true feelings

That's pretty common. When a movie someone has worked on has just been released they loved the experience, loved everyone they worked with, loved the film itself, etc. Then a few years later the truth usually comes out.

He's not exactly super complimentary about the new movie's story either though. He loved the bits with Threepio in, natch, but he said the rest went way over his head. I get the feeling Mr Daniels is only truly happy when that paycheck is handed over.

He's always been that way. I don't think he's ever really "got it." And, from everyone I know that has met him, he's pretty much a dick.

I think he was referring to the original '77 film there.

Quote:
That said, Daniels can be trusted not to reveal any spoilers about the plot — because, he admits, he hasn’t understood it from the beginning. Speaking about the first Star Wars movie, Daniels told The Guardian, “The screenplay was very good as far as C-3PO was concerned, but I had no idea what was going on in the rest of it. Still don’t. When J.J. told me the story of the new one, my eyes sort of glazed over.”
He's basically saying he never really "understood" Star Wars in general, and still doesn't.

Fair enough, but what part of "when JJ told me the story my eyes sort of glazed over" isn't clear? Daniels still thinks this is all very much beneath him, he's an AC-tor, darling.

Yes and no. A quote from the same interview (but not included in the link above):

Quote:
“I don’t think I’m very good at other things,” Daniels said. “I wanted to act but I didn’t want to play Hamlet. With Star Wars, my life jolted sideways. I look at other actors now – they’re all terribly good – and I think, ‘How do you know how to do that? How?’ Because I seem to have forgotten.”

I don't think he's really putting it down so much as saying he has a hard time wrapping his head around the sci-fi/fantasy elements of the story, some people kinda get lost when made up creatures, places, etc. start being named. But otherwise he's always struck me as being proud and appreciative of being part of the franchise.
