Do not toy with my emotions John Landis so help me God and also as far as scientifically rationalizing the OT how is Chewie's fur so clean throughout all three films = makes no sense and he would also smell awful but no one in the films ever comment on this thank you no punctuation this time.

Deleted scenes of Han grooming Chewie would be fantastic.

Jeez folks. It's still just hearsay.
I'll believe it when I see the announcement.

It's too late to promote The Force Awakens but it's less than a year and a half until the 40th Anniversary (they released the SEs starting in late January of 1997) so *IF* they do it that would be the time. A theatrical release followed by a video release in the summer or fall.

I had a thought: they release the original cut *but* they remix the sound to the latest standard: Dolby Atmos. Would the purists object? A theatrical rerelease would most certainly be 5.1 and even then that's not the original configuration.

The BDs are better, but the DVDs were "better DVDs" than the BDs when it comes to format standards if that makes sense.

I was saying that earlier but it makes perfect sense-- They paid a lot for Star Wars, and they're going to make as much money as possible. So the obvious thing to do is start by selling the versions you inherited. Hence, they sold them digitally and repackaged the Blu-Ray set. While doing so, you have your restoration project underway for the future releases of the films.

The best release I can think of is to do it "Blade Runner" style:
1) Do a massive "Ultimate Edition" that revamps all the added effects/alterations as well as fixes all of the other errors missed on previous releases.
2) Release the original versions of the films as well as the 1997 Special Edition releases exactly as they were shown originally.
3) Remaster Episode I without all the DNR and include the original 1999 theatrical edition.
4) Episode II with the original color-timing, plus options to view both versions of the original theatrical release (film print and digital), plus the IMAX cut.
5) Exhaustive complete extras from all previous releases plus new good stuff.

As long as they don't force me to buy the shitty prequels, I'm OK with your approach.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure Disney is aware there is a market for people that are just looking to get the originals. Hopefully they'd split the sets but not punish you for it by removing bonus discs like the last release.

If you do end up having to buy a set with the prequels, just think of those discs as really cool collectible Star Wars coasters.

I wouldn't mind owning the theatrical versions of the prequels myself.

I mean, as long as they doing the OT, why not?
