By the by, it should go without saying around here that one should never judge the possible video quality of a catalog title based on a trailer. More often than not, the source for these trailers is an older transfer or release, as the ad materials have to be prepped before the work on the new version has been completed.

So don't look at that Saga commercial and assume that's what we're getting. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Bingo. It's the dang Alien Blu-Ray Set all over again. When people were in a tizzy over how Aliens looked.

The 2004 versions are better than the 1997 special editions in every instance that they differ (not counting color timing or audio issues).

Beast,

I know. It just amazes me that after all these years, that website won't quit. It's a cult over there.

And the funny thing, the theatrical versions are out there...have been out there on various formats over the years.

Lucas is not obligated to release the films in the best format each time there's a new format. That's a choice.

If you want the theatrical versions, they're readily available....

Indeed. Cult is right... it's aggressive.... evangelism and they hope to convert everyone to seeing it their way.

Question for you super fans; I'm sure a quick search on Google would find me the answer but I'd rather discuss it here

Does any of you know off hand what resolution Attack of the Clones was "filmed" in?

Ordered the Complete Saga as well. I also have a $50 Amazon gift card that I added to it so it came out to be $39.99 for me. Woohoo $6.66 a movie!

YES!!!! We got official news and the news is "You fans are getting a bad&#$ box set!" I wish we got a little more info on the sets, but that would be whining.

As for the sets, pure awesomeness. The promise of great video and audio is awesome. I am a little apprehensive about the quality, but I'm trusting Lucasfilm. I do like the DVDs of the special editions, with a few small exceptions. I'm sure they'll look and sound awesome.

Also, there's six films, yet the box set that has all six films has nine discs. I can do math. I didn't need the blurb about 30 hours of special features to know there was going to be a ton of goodies on this set (or 1 1/2 disc for each film to spread and have awesome picture and sound, but considering all the films have reasonable running times, three discs of special features sounded more probable). That's my only disappointment about the announcement: I want to know more about the goodies (besides the six main attractions, I mean ).

Finally, something I thought was kind of nice: the two other sets that split the prequel and original trilogies. That was a nice touch for people who can't afford the mega-awesome set (yes, I made that up ) or, the more likely scenario, to satisfy fans who loathe the prequels and only want the originals or vice-versa. Granted, those fans lose the extras and I doubt it do anything for those that want the unaltered trilogy, but its a nice thought.

All in all, I'm more excited about the sets than ever. I'm even more happy to know its coming earlier than planned. I will get this set, the mega-awesome nine disc (I love all six films and a bonus features hog).

(If there are any fans that prefer the prequels over the originals, let me know. I won't make fun of you and I'll yell at anyone who does. I just want to hear from a fan who prefers the prequels, since everyone always badmouths the prequels. I prefer the Luke trilogy, but only a slight edge.)

Finally, a funny comment on the news page for the Blu-Rays on the official site, from someone called 'JustinL81':

Clones was shot in 1080p if I'm correct. They were using first generation HD cameras on that picture.

Pr-order placed! I'll but it twice. Once on release day, and once it's on sale.

I think I'll get myself a lovey surround system to be ready this September!

Best Day Of My Life!

Can't wait to see these babies in glorious HD-1080p, and experience with lossless audio!

[QUOTE=Jumpman;4226520]Beast,

Honestly, the Prequels are pretty extensive when it comes to special features on DVD, so I'm not opposed to porting that stuff over and just upgrading it to HD...(the web docs are killer).

Yeah, I would to be able to retire those dreadful DVDs.

Don't they have to if they are really using the ROTS Yoda in TPM??????

Otherwise it'd be ought to see a different Yoda in AOTC, and then the same Yoda in ROTS again.

It's probably also the reason why she refuses to have anything to do with Star Wars anymore.

20+ years of hearing how fanboys "spanked it" to you in a metal bikini would probably make anyone bitter.

She only agreed to be in the Family Guy Jedi parody because she was playing Mon Mothma, not Leia.

AGREED. While I am excited for this release, I don't understand people who are bashing everyone who wants the original trilogy. I can't recall another instance of something like this happening, when a director keeps changing his film and makes the original versions unavailable. Crazy.

I hope the prequels are extended, especially Revenge of the Sith, and that some scenes were added to the original trilogy as well.

I don't mind the Special Editions so much. The part of the 2004 DVD changes that always bothers me is where they went and replaced the original actors with the actors from the new trilogy.

[QUOTE=Ernest Rister;4226964]No, I'm also going to add the myriad technical problems with the 2004 DVDs -- such as reversed surround tracks on the 1977 film. How is that not half-assed? Or how the Death Star explosion turns to black-and white with a hideous blue fuzz ringing all around it? And if this isn't half-assed, I don't know what is....

I didn't even know about that. I was 7 1/2 at the time.

Still that was pretty funny:3

I actually prefer the prequels over the originals myself. And yes, I saw the originals in the 70's/80's.

The OT focused on a few characters and the struggle against the Empire.

I really loved the PT for expanding things, showing us a much larger picture of the Star Wars Universe. Seeing how things like the Senate and Jedi Order operated. Seeing the Universe "Before the Dark Times, Before the Empire". It just really expanded the Universe into a larger more fleshed out reality. Plus I thought the story was more rich and compelling also. There was a lot more going on. It just really satisfied everything I wanted.

As opposed to what Rambaldi47 proposes, I am hoping that some of the prequels are pared down. I could do without some of the fluff in II and a little from III. Funny, but Jar Jar just doesn't bother me as much as Anakin and Padme's shenanigans.
