If making this release an event is the goal then this isn't a bad way to go about it.
I see this being a "Saturday release", with every single major retailer that can having midnight releases so people will have it on Saturday morning ready to watch. Heck in that scenario some people can stay up and just knock out the whole set then sleep through Sunday.

It looks like the 2004 versions. (It's been fun Star Wars, but no. I'm out.)

It would be competing against both the end of regular season MLB(maybe there is a tight race or two which hasn't been concluded) or the beginning of the playoffs, as well as the start of the NFL regular season. The weekend news cycle would most likely be focusing on those as well as College Football.

Besides, I don't recall a FOX release coming out on a weekend. We've had a few Summitt releases and WB released The Town and Legend of the Guardians on a Friday. I know there is another, but it doesn't come immediately to mind.

Excellent... so far haven't preordered as I usually buy from Best Buy from Frys but Amazon is very tempting. All that I'm waiting on now is LOTR EE and Indiana Jones.

Fox doesn't control this release though, George Lucas does and since when does he do what's expected? I am going to fall in love with these movies all over again and I can't wait for it to happen.

I just hope that all of you that are pre-ordering from Amazon are using this sites link to the saga, because it helps support the site you like so much.
Just a thought.

What, you aren't gonna watch the Bills that Sunday instead?

Almost a certainty. Ep1 CGI Yoda all but confirmed. I expect/hope for some small tweaks to Anakin ghost in RotJ. Expect further refinement on Jabba in ANH and hopefully the lightsabers SFX throughout the OT are all prequel quality.

I'm hoping many deleted scenes get edited back in on all 6 movies, as well, especially some more Biggs in ANH, the Wampa attacks in TESB, the sandstorm in RotJ.

No, I'm also going to add the myriad technical problems with the 2004 DVDs -- such as reversed surround tracks on the 1977 film. How is that not half-assed? Or how the Death Star explosion turns to black-and white with a hideous blue fuzz ringing all around it? And if this isn't half-assed, I don't know what is....

i'd think george won't let this property have anything short of the best possible everything.
Of course that would be his intent, but execution is everything.

I'm a Cowboys fan, this avatar is due to a lost bet, hence the Bills logo being peed on. I'll watch the Cowboys but I also intend to wear out my SW blus a bit, probably watching the full set every week after I get them, maybe even twice a week for awhile.

This has been a great day for me. First, this was announced. Second, I got shipping confirmation on my DMR Disney WOW blu-ray. And last, but not least, my Oppo BDP-93 arrived today!!

For me the 2004 versions are not the Special Edition. There is too much change. But I'm afraid that the Blu Ray will feature the 2004 version.

Original trilogy for me only - screw those prequels, and anyway the prequels will look better blurry on DVD.

Originaltrilogy.com boards are up in arms (yet again) with this announcement. Basically, from their point of view, the trailer is a representation of what we'll get in September...saying that the Episode I footage in the trailer is from the new transfer they've done....

....I don't see how you can make that leap based on footage off a computer screen.

Yes let's ignore the set wit the rise and fall of Anakin Skywalker, the Imperial Senate, the Jedi Order and the rise to power of Emperor Palpatine.

Heh. I guessed last night that if there was a trailer, the screenshot scientists would be out in force.

The trailer was clearly made up of existing trailer footage. Something tossed together for CES.

Since it doesn't hype any of the extras, tease the tweaks like E1 Yoda, or even show the packaging mock-up.

As well they should be, everyone knows a poorly shoved together trailer of old footage that probably has little if anything to do with the new releases coming out in September.
