Like Harry Knowles...

I know someone who saw TPM 9 times in the theater and who now trashes the prequels automatically if they are so much as even mentioned.

This applies even more so towards the SE.

I saw TPM at the theater 4 times and it's because I was excited that there was finally a new Star Wars film after 16 years without one. Now, I try to watch it and realize that it's truly a dreadful film. The only bright spots are the lightsaber battle(which happens to be the best one of the saga) and the Pod Race(even though the annoying announcers almost ruin it for me now).

Honestly, the only one of the prequels I can still sit through is RotS. It's not a perfect film by any means, but next to TPM and AotC it looks like The Godfather.

No. There were things in the SEs that were completely reviled from pretty much day one. Greedo shooting first was the most hated change, but Luke's scream in Empire and the choppy editing after it (both fixed on later SEs) and "Jedi Rocks" got plenty of hate, too. These were things that few if any audiences ever liked.

I liked Phantom Menace the first time I saw it, but I think that was fanboy excitement. I very quickly turned against it the second time, though I still loved the end battle (and still do today).

The SEs I remember my friends and I making fun of in the theater, MST3K style. If only I had known then I was stuck with them for 20 years.

It's cringe-worthy that Lucas felt it necessary to add it to a perfectly good movie, but not really a surprise considering he was putting out crap like the The Star Wars Holiday Special, Caravan of Courage: An Ewok Adventure, and Ewoks: The Battle for Endor since day one.

Those beaks he added to the Sarlac pit are also crap. They totally undermine what made it so horrific.

I thought The Phantom Menace was ok, at the time I thought it was a bit flat in terms of dialogue and acting, but not atrocious, the Yippies got on my nerves.

Attack Of The Clones is what turned my stomach, after waiting in line for hours, I felt like walking out 10 minutes into the damn movie, but stayed and sat through it, but found it absolutely embarrassing, then Yoda pulls out his lightsaber, Audience cheered, so did I.

Walking out when it was over, I was think oh much I detested the rest of the film, then I could hear other people behind me referring to it as a "Steaming Pile of Shit" and I agreed. and this was before I was really online, I didn't get the internet in my home until 2005(came to it late) Revenge Of The Sith I hoped would be better, and it was, but only to a point

I like about 80% of Revenge of the Sith, but I hate the other two. Always have.

This. The first time I saw it, I saw it with my mum in the theater and she said I had this look on my face like I was a little kid again. I think I fooled myself into believing it was good because OH MY GOD, NEW STAR WARS! It got worse when I turned a critical eye to it.

Now, I think the whole Gungan/RogerRoger robots battle should be edited out. A lot of it is just stupid slapstick with JJ, the accidental hero. And Anakin flying into space to blow up the Trade Federation ship could be edited out except that that wipes out the robot army. I don't mind Amidala's fight to the throne room, but yeah, the jedi/sith fight is clearly the best part.

Sure you do... Even if your lie story was true I wouldn't blame the internet on that one, but rather on those people graduating elementary school.

And isn't it much more likely that the people who blindly love all the things that Lucas has foisted on the general public since 1997 (i.e. Greedo shooting first, Jabba in ANH, Jedi Rocks, the infamous "NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!" needlessly added to ROTJ, the very existence of Jar-Jar and Emo Ani, not to mention Padme dying of a broken heart) without any semblance of critical thought are the mindless sheep that you're indirectly accusing everyone who disagrees with you with?

I'd be more inclined to think that there are some EXTREMELY vocal folks out there who (repeatedly) use tactics like claiming people who like what they don't must be drooling idiots or liars because they themselves are looking for self-validation. In all things, 'He who speaks, does not know.'

Lots of people don't like the Prequels and Special Editions. That's cool. Lots do. That's also fine. Just live with it.

Yet you're cool with people who call those they disagree with "obsessive haters who dwell on the negative". As such, I think I'll take your statement with a industrial-sized shaker of salt...

I don't recall the phrase "dying of a broken heart" being used in the film. What exactly was foisted on the public here, outside of your own interpretation?

I didn't put "dying of a broken heart" in quotation marks in that post, as it wasn't meant to be a direct quote. Regardless, the interpretation is quite sound given the dialogue in the relevant scene (with the key phrase quoted)...

Any other interpretation (especially given the absolute lack of direct on-screen evidence supporting such a contrary assertion) is essentially a pathetic attempt to hand-wave away a prime example of the PT's myriad failures (namely, the complete absence of believable screenwriting).

My hate for the movie started during the opening crawl. All that excitement turned to dread when I started seeing words like "taxation", "trade routes" and "Congress of the Republic." WTF???

Yeah those are clearly concepts that shouldn't be in any Sci-Fi movie EVAR!!!!
Especially poorly written ones.
I'm not going to dwell on how poorly executed the Prequels are, that's been done to death. But all they are now is, just an example of "Fanboy Rage", and how not to tell a 3-part story that an entire generation had been waiting for. By the decisions made by all in charge...yes I'm looking at that "Yes" man Rick McCallum, producer who said nothing to George but Yes, instead of offering counter points and constructive feedback, like what a producer does. At least former Producer Gary Kurtz stood up for what he thought was right on Jedi, in preproduction, before Lucas fired him and we got arguably the worst Star Wars movie that was just a frakking toy commercial, that gets a insane amount of praise just for the fact it is part of the original Trilogy. I thought it was a bad movie when I saw it in theatres back in '83, and clearly started a cycle of 2 hour plus toy commercials, with no care to the actual story being told. So complaints about big words being used in the opening crawl are hilarious, and nobody would have cared if the movie had been good.
