Who in 1999 wanted to see C-SPAN in Space®, Star Wars Wacky Races™, and quasi-racist caricatures of no less than three cultures?

The maturity level of the Prequel bashers is truly something to be in awe of.

Call it a direct response to the mirthless pomposity of the prequel defenders who cannot accept ANY criticism of their beloved flannel-shirted leader.

I love that this is the way you think arguments should go. Make up some shit about how you think the film is in a definitive manner so that the person on the other side has to acknowledge your lame inaccurate description which would give it validity.

No sir, that is not how this is going to go. Put on your big boy pants if you want to have a discussion.

What you and your ilk are doing is not criticism. The mere fact that you think it is is amusing.

What? To call you out on your inaccuracies and inability to have perspective and objectivity? You bet.

Dude let it go. No point trying to convince people who don't like the prequels to suddenly love them, it's pointless. I like the PT too but if people don't like them, they don't like them. Nothing will change their minds. It is what it is.

Tell me precisely which part of my description was inaccurate then.

Did TPM not have long scenes playing out Robert's Rules of Order in the Galactic Senate? Did it not have an interminable sequence where all these merchandising opportunities "characters" that don't appear anywhere else in the film get in their various racing machines and have their crashes played out for the theatrical audiences' laughter? And did you forget about Watto, the Neimoidians and the Gungans?

No, it's more the point that when there is criticism - actual reasoned criticism, not so much my earlier post - it gets dismissed by the defenders with a snooty wave of the hand and a haughty remark that we don't understand the master's grand plan, i.e. EVERYTHING gets lumped in with the haterz. That's why this merry-go-round keeps on going, the defenders are just as obstinate as the bashers and neither will give any quarter.

I'm on the fence, as I love Revenge of the Sith but Attack of the Clones is an abomination of a film. Phantom Menace is fun but curiously removed from the wider saga.

It's kind of weird to see the tide shifting online in regards to a hatred of Attack of the Clones being the worst of the prequels, whereas I always thought it was universally accepted that Phantom Menace was the worst.

I personally feel that Phantom Menace is the weakest but I haven't unpacked the originally trilogy critically in a long long time.

Personally, I'm middle of the road. I find the prequels to have some really awesome moments that make them all worth watching individually, but they are extraordinarily flawed as parts of the larger trilogy and are punctuated by incredibly boring moments throughout all three.

Definitely interesting to see how passionate and angry people get on both sides of the argument.

It stopped being interesting a while ago, it's just exhausting now. The internet needs to just call a collective detante on the prequels.

A lot of the initial hysteria re: Phantom Menace was aimed at Jar Jar, the midis and little Jake Lloyd. But underneath that guff is basically a remake of the original Star Wars with more than a sprinkling of Return of the Jedi mixed in, it's kinda fun as long as one can ignore the farting animals and bizarre shifts in tone in general. The score is amazing and dat lightsaber face/off between Obi-Wan and Maul is my favourite of the entire saga.

Yep. It wasn't what I wanted it to be, so it wasn't good.

But then again all I wanted it to be was "good", I had no other specific expectations. Just make decent films. Yet, they weren't.

This won't happen as long as vocal and lazy thinkers on both sides of the argument choose to willfully resist subtlety. After all it's so much easier when things are all one way or another.

I thought Frank was just the voice with Episode I? I remember them mentioning something during Episode II's documentary that the new puppeteer didn't quite do the thing Frank Oz did with his hand and they were trying to replicate it with the digital Yoda.

I never really understood why he looked so funky, they should have just made the same one, people wouldn't have cared! I don't think the chap who made the original was around for Episode I and the original Yoda had fallen apart because he was never made to last.
