I'm not sure what the confusion is - it was changed in color because they deleted the scene that showed him making a new saber. It was a way to tell the audience that Luke had a new one without having the scene in the film. Otherwise folks would have questioned where he got it from - did they go back to Bespin to get it, etc.

How apropos this discussion is considering the plot of Episode VII.

Can you manipulate brightness and contrast to hide them? Yup, but by doing so - you are not properly calibrated, you've just used extreme settings to hide the flaw on that specific film.

Right, and "I see you have constructed a new light saber" addresses any issues other than why he has the first green one we've seen.

Then again, they admit on one of the making of docs- I think it was on the Sith dvd- that Lucas forgot to include Obi-wan taking the saber until the last minute and had to fill it in with a re-shoot. Which I guess, addresses any issues that anybody has. Point being, that, once again, I don't think GL took any of the criticisms/continuity issues seriously.

And to be honest...I also assume, like a lot of things that we think must be some deeply complex decision - it probably "just looked cool" LOL. The blue wouldn't have stood out nearly as much as the green in many scenes.

As to the continuity criticisms, I absolutely agree - it's clear that Lucas didn't take much seriously, period, when it came to the connection between the OT and the PT. There are so many unnecessary contradictions, and things that could have easily been taken care of, that I honestly agree - he just didn't particularly care about it, like he never thought anyone would seriously look at the two together, in spite of his instance that it was somehow all one big story.

Honestly, I may be an anomaly when it comes to these movies, but I'm mostly listening to the music when watching them- which I contend/contest is handed down from on high straight across the board.

While there weren't as many memorable tracks in the PT soundtracks (as only "Duel of the Fates" and "Battle of the Heroes" truly stand out) compared to their predecessors, to me John Williams' score was one of the two things from the PT that did justice to the franchise (the other being Ewan McGregor's performance as Obi-Wan).

Well, I'm a big fan of the love theme from episode 2, but it's definitely a different approach than the old trilogy which seemed to have some kind of recurring theme for every character and event. The prequels are more about development and exploration of the small handful handful of new themes, but it's done in a pretty satisfying way to my ears. I also think Anakin's theme from Phantom Menace is a pretty clever take on The Imperial March.

In line with what Lucas did to the saga on home video:

Do you think that when Episode 7 comes to blu-ray, that Abrams should change things that don't need changing and ignore things that do? Or, should we just get the movie as we will see it in the theater? Will there be pressure on Abrams to go back add some digital rocks in front of BB8?

My first request is to colorize Harrison`s hair back to brown. That certainly has to be a continuity error on the part of the filmmakers.

yep. i am just joking. but...

That makes only Clones & Sith to be the only movies currently available that are the same as when they were originally released!

Thoughts?
I prefer Digital Yoda in TPM. I always thought the newer puppet looked a bit shite compared to the one in the OT. And Puppet Yoda looks just as out-of-place in TPM as all the added digital stuff looks in the OT.

My mains set was calibrated a long while ago so I don't vividly remember, but I am sure he went for 2.2 since that is the standard. My second TV, simply set on "movie mode," has a gamma selector I have on 2.2. The mattes are clear as day on both. As Geoff (who also has a calibrated set) said, you'd have to crush blacks to get rid of them.

It's hard to believe the 'new puppet' of Yoda in TPM was by Frank Ozz, it's mechanically a inferior puppet in every way compared to the puppet in ESB & ROTJ.

Yes, they posted a notice at the BO saying costumes are fine, just some weapons restrictions (lightsabers OK, blasters no).

Yep, the Obi-Wan lightsaber pickup says it all. IMO Lucas didn't want to be bound by anything when making his prequels; not the studios, not technological limits, not the fans, not even the three SW movies he'd already made because he considered them to be compromised in terms of realising his "vision".

That's why the prequels play like quasi-remakes at times. People can bang on about 'ring theory' all they want as to why they're similar, but for me it's more the point that Lucas was finally making Star Wars how he wanted to make it. The prequels aren't paying homage, they're thumbing their noses at the OT by including many of the same elements and motifs - only doing them better in Lucas' eyes.

What a crock of shit. You're inferring a lot of things that are incorrect and injecting a lot of your own bias into things that Lucas has supposedly done.

Well Frank Oz was only the performer, (as far as I know) he didn't have anything to do with the construction of the Yoda puppets.

But it has always baffled me (even when I was a little kid when Phantom Menace came out) how they managed to screw up the Yoda puppet in that movie when the one they used for the original trilogy was damn near perfect.

Too early in the day for that. They have to finish eating their Bombad Flakes before changing out of their Jar-Jar covered Underoos.

As opposed to the Prequel Basher Brigade. All any of you guys seem fit to do is inject your own personal nonsense on these movies without it adding up to any more than "It's not what I wanted it to be so it's not good!"
