The prequel trilogy's deleted scenes, in most cases, weren't carried over to the Blu-ray release.

Stop with this horseshit. Fox is the home video distributor, they will co-distribute whatever box Disney wants to do because they make large piles of money for no effort by doing so.

You can get the region-free UK release for ~$70 shipped, assuming that you're OK with British nanny-state ratings logos on the packaging. It has the exact same discs as the US release.

While I concede a co-distributed box set with episode 7 is possible (given that Disney got Paramount and Universal to cooperate in releasing the MCU Phase 1 set), it's still premature to expect one.

While Disney has released box sets of certain films, they aren't exactly in the recurring habit as Warner Bros was during the later years of the Harry Potter film series.

In the Blu-ray boxset review of the Star Wars saga on this site the reviewer mentions that there's deleted scenes on the dvds that are not included with the new Blu-ray set. I guess he was only referring to the prequel trilogy and not the original trilogy. I have no idea.

I'm not saying they will release a 1-7 set, I agree that seems like a waste. What I am saying is Fox's limited distribution rights wouldn't really factor into the decision that much. They either will be happy to take their cut or happy to trade something for the rights in general. We don't even know if they could block it if they wanted to, which, why would they want to?

They more than likely won't release a new set until all three of the newest episodes are made.

How many times do you need a distribution agreement explained to you? FOX RELEASES WHAT LUCASFILM TELLS THEM TO, THEY DO NOT DICTATE JACK.

Indeed. Lucasfilm LOVES a cash-in - hence the Saga re-release and the steelbooks timed just a month or two before Ep VII hits - and they've released 'incomplete' sets before, I recall seeing an Ep I & II box set on DVD. As mentioned before it's not a rarity in the home video world either, Lionsgate have released a collected set of Hunger Games each time they had another movie to put in there and Warners did the same with Barry Trotter.

GMFG

I know that Lucasfilm dictates how their products are released. That's why we haven't seen single film releases until the Steelbook releases this year. And that's probably why Fox can't include a digital copy of A New Hope in their physical releases (Lucasfilm/Disney has the digital distribution rights to the other films).

Still, not sure if the distribution agreement dictates that Fox has to work with other distributors on joint releases. Although yes, it does makes sense for Fox to cooperate with Disney on future joint releases, as they have on the digital releases.

Btw, can we please stop using profanity in our posts please, thanks.

To clarify:

Disney didn't get Paramount to cooperate with them. Disney only had to convince Universal and Universal was at Marvel's beck and call.

When Disney bought Marvel, Marvel Studios had a distribution deal with Paramount for most of the films. The only caveat was Hulk stand alone films which are contractually locked to Universal.

Disney decided to actually PAY Paramount a fee for the Marvel movies Paramount had distribution for as well any future releases by Paramount. This allowed Marvel to retain the Paramount logos on the films.

I believe Thor: The Dark World was the first Marvel film to be handled by Disney fully without a payment to Paramount while Iron Man 3 was the last film under the Paramount distribution deal. Paramount has no control over the Marvel films they used to distribute anymore, Disney through Marvel can do whatever they want with them.

With Star Wars it's a different thing:

Lucasfilm will have distribution rights in 2020 for Eps I-III, V, & VI. Lucasfilm also has rights to Eps VII - IX.

Fox will keep distribution rights for Episode IV until enough money is thrown at them to give it up.

Due to Disney owning Lucasfilm, they in turn have the distribution rights to Lucasfilm properties just like they do with Marvel. However, Disney doesn't have to pay Fox any fee for any Star Wars film held by Lucasfilm.

So in 2020, Disney is free to make their own set and license Episode IV for inclusion in a complete box set. At this point, Fox gets a licensing fee for the film's inclusion. Disney has no say on what happens to Episode IV, it all falls on Lucasfilm. Lucasfilm then provides it to Fox for distribution.

Remember: Fox, Lucasfilm, and Disney did work together to release a digital bundle of the six films. So future physical home video will not be a problem.

Disney also has to find a proper distribution channel for the films: so far the Marvel films have been handled by Buena Vista, a catch all arm for Walt Disney. However, Lucasfilm's Strange Magic was distributed under the Touchstone arm. Star Wars: The Force Awakens is under Walt Disney Pictures.

And in regards to Indiana Jones, Disney is going the Marvel route as Paramount locked distribution for Lucasfilm for the future sequels. Disney will pay a fee to Paramount for future IJ films. But Disney can not take the first four films from Paramount. Those will remain at Paramount.

I'm pretty sure they would've still retain the Paramount logo.

A part of me though still wants to wish Fox renews distribution rights for I, II, III, V, and VI and that's all I'll say.

Also another thing to point out with Marvel is that Paramount still has existing distribution commitments:

I understand you want the Fox theme retained, but after 2020 it doesn't make business sense for Lucasfilm/Disney to pay Fox to distribute the five films made after the original.

Considering the press release is two years old, it's likely that all distribution commitments have been transferred to Buena Vista Home Entertainment by now. For a while, the Paramount issued copies had BVHE sticker UPCs.

Captain America: The First Avenger and Thor were reissued as one disc BD releases this year which still contain the Paramount logo, but now with Buena Vista Home Entertainment printed on the small print of the back cover and BVHE style proof of purchase boxes above the UPC. This is likely also the case with the Iron Man 3 Movie pack that was also released this year.

I'm still confident Disney will keep the Fox logo and fanfare for those movies. The last thing they want to do is to disappoint its fans.

I'm just saying, supposing Fox wanted to still distribute those films. Yes, Lucasfilm owns them, but Fox distributed them since day one. They should have a choice whether or not they wish to continue distributing them.

That's it. Not going further than that.

They cut the Fox logo off the digital copies, so I wouldn't bet on it.

The digital versions of Episodes I - III, V, and VI do not have the Fox leader or fanfare. Again, due to the fact that Disney isn't paying Fox any fee.

What happens with the future Indiana Jones films is speculation since Disney is paying Paramount a fee. I'm also sure due to the content that the future IJ films will fall under Touchstone. I doubt Disney is going to drop them into the Buena Vista branch and I don't think Walt Disney Pictures would be a good fit for it. Then again, WDP is the distributor of the PG-13 Pirates of the Caribbean films.
