Yes, but not on Blu-ray.

Some of you people are such absolute snobs, the changes to the "special editions" are so absolutely miniscule, that unless your sitting there trying to nit pick every little thing, it goes unnoticed. Don't let it ruin your day lol

Minuscule? Really? They're huge changes. ANH, especially, is turned into a kiddie farce.

And yes, Han originally shot only... he's a gunslinger like from a Western and now a bad-ass original scene is just silly and ruins the character setup of Han Solo. Greedo shoots and misses from three feet away?

Jabba, a nasty slug with a taste for bikini-clad girls, is now reduced to a comic sidekick and is revealed far too early. With the dialog given to Greedo and Han in the Cantina because that deleted scene wouldn't work, the scene with the horrible CGI Jabba is rendered pointless.

And these are tiny changes?

Did you even read that? It does not support your claim in any way. The fact that you had to post a link to a forum as your evidence should be enough to convince most people that you have no leg to stand on.

Your claim was BS and you should stop spreading misinformation.

As for "Yes, but not on Blu-ray." - where in that blurb that you and other gullible people online keep repeating does it mention different home video formats? It simply says "unreleased in the United States." And how is downloading an MKV justified by a lack of a BD release, even with that BS blurb you copied and pasted? And how can people with the ability to think and reason believe a copyrighted work would fall into public domain if it's not released on a particular format?

Sadly, it's all too possible that this is the closest the true fans will ever get to the OT in some form of HD, even if it is only 720p.

Spielberg needs to go to his flanneled friend and smack some sense into him. Even the Library of Congress wants the OT fully preserved for the archives.
You may be fine with lies and misinformation spreading around the site unchecked, but I am not. What he posted was patently false and I corrected him.

Of course the despecialized editions aren't really legal. I can't believe anyone would suggest that they are. However are they immoral? If you own the movies on blu-ray then I would say not, but everyone has their own moral stick.

I do think Disney are taking a casual attitude about it. They surely heard of it by now and they have great lawyers. Reminds me of PC abandonware, illegal on paper but since no one can or wants to sell the stuff anyway they turn a blind-eye.

The only one full of lies is George Lucas. He wishes to rewrite history with the changes he made. He even made a claim that Greedo actually shot first in the original. It just doesnt look that way cause its in closeups. How gullible does he think we are?? Lucas claims the changes are to represent his 'vision'. Unfortunately that claim is no longer credible since he keeps changing the films every chance he gets. And more insultingly, he will not let the originals be made available again. Regardless of how better todays technology is doesnt matter since the OUT were cinematic masterpieces at the time of their release and have a large fanbase. Harmy is simply bringing those versions back to those who want it. Sure maybe its not entirely legal but hes not profitting from it and Lucas says he doesnt mind fan edits which Harmy's versions technically are.

I was pretty sure I wanted to buy the newest Complete Saga release, but now I'm irked knowing it's not really complete anymore. So now feeling like that is a misnomer and lumps two eras together and knowing I'll own an even newer era with the newest films starting up, I think I want the two separate trilogies (which is oddly $20 cheaper to do as well) to be packaged as such since we are getting a third trilogy that won't be in this "complete set" and isn't super attached to them all anyway

So is that crazy and am I losing out on much if I'm not a big Bonus features watcher?

The big selling point to the "Saga" set is the the three bonus discs (of which two are focused on the Original Trilogy). The best part of the bonus features are the three vintage documentaries listed below:
  • The Making of Star Wars (1977, SD, 49:01): A retro making-of documentary and promo piece that came out shortly after the first film's release. Includes interviews with George Lucas and appearances by Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford, and Carrie Fisher.
  • SPFX: The Empire Strikes Back (1980, SD, 48:05): Similarly, a making-of doc for Empire, which looks specifically at the then- innovative visual effects.
  • Classic Creatures: The Return of the Jedi (1983, SD, 48:07): An exploration of the menagerie of Star Wars creatures, compared to and contrasted against the grand tradition of movie monsters. Hosted by Carrie Fisher and Billy Dee Williams.

Now if you're not big into bonus features then you could get the stand-alone trilogies, but that's your call. Note that the movie discs for those trilogy sets are identical to the ones found in the Saga set.

Public Service Announcement

Here is a thread that I started in the Movies section of the forum so that those of us who have already seen Star Wars: The Force Awakens can discuss the movie without using spoiler tags.

Please do not discuss plot points of The Force Awakens anywhere else in this forum.

Thanks, y'all.

The first two you listed have long been on YouTube in full SD but I feel unlikely to watch them anyway. Thanks for the info. I'll save the $20 and get them split as I would prefer

I was thinking of getting the two triology sets from Denmark. I was wondering if they are region free. I got a lot hits searching the thread on the UK sets being region free. Each $21 before shipping. I used this company for ordering to the US before. Here are the links to both sets.

They should be, as both the region-free US and UK discs have Finnish, Swedish, Norwegian, and Danish subtitles (the four languages listed on the back of the set's packaging) already. That, and I've not heard of any region-locked Star Wars BDs to date anywhere worldwide.

If only the original trilogy was released unaltered on Blu-ray then there wouldn't be a need for anything "illegal" as far as these films are concerned! Lots of activities are illegal and that just shows that some laws are just downright stupid!!

I would agree with you, but unfortunately, you're wrong.

Vader shouting "NOOOOOO!!!" as he chucks Emperor Palpy completely ruins the scene for me.

Okay so after not liking Star Wars or Empire Strikes Back my wife reluctantly watched Return of the Jedi tonight to be caught up for the new movie and... she liked it a lot. She teared up when Anakin's ghost appeared (even though she never saw the prequels). She said "I guess I'm a Star Wars fan now."

Explain that one.
