Hey Scarriere, nevermind what I said before. Svenge knows all. His opinion is incontrovertible fact and gospel. So you must now hate the prequels when you see them. You must revile them. You must despise them. So go ahead and join the George-Lucas-Raped-My-Childhood club. They hold daily meetings on message boards just like this one all over the world. There is no room to decide for yourself. Svenge has decided for you. But if, by chance, you DID happen to like the prequels when you saw them, then you must now reconcile within yourself the fact that you are a very bad judge of movies, that you have very poor taste, and that you are just a terrible person altogether.

To me a line is crossed when you take a movie you dislike and then claim anyone who does like it has poor taste in movies.

I'll tolerate most any and all grumbling and constructive criticism right up to the point of bashing strangers for their tastes. On that note, I saw this type of behavior occur most recently with people who hated TFA. They couldn't just hate it and leave it at that. Nope - anyone who liked it was a sheep or a JJ groupie or a number of other insulting things.

Well put. Its fine to have an opinion but to ridicule people who disagree or think their opinion is the only opinion that matters in the world is just arrogant. Some people like chocolate, some like vanilla. Nothing wrong with that. Its ok for some SW fans to hate the SE's of the OT or hate the PT but dont make it out that that hatred should be mutual among everyone in the world. We're all human folks. Lets stay on the same page.

Could a Mod please remove the above posts!
They exhibit far too much common sense to be posted in a SW thread.

Thank you, have a nice day!

I've been to many different forum topics, but I must say Star Wars definitely has the most fighting amongst each other. Even on other forum sites, I can usually find Star Wars fans arguing with each other.

I bought the Star Wars blu ray 2011 versions (side view of Darth Vadar on the cover). What was different? What I noticed, and I could be wrong because I haven't seen the films in over 20 years. But, were the opening scrolling story lines different?

I'm told the special effects were changed. But, did the stories change? Did they remove scenes or prolong them?

For some reason I did not enjoy the movies as much as I did when they were first released.

In short - if you haven't seen these movies for 20-odd years, you've missed all the different cuts these movies have sadly seen.

The "Special Editions" were released in 1997 to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the original film. Each film was edited to include new scenes (Jabba the Hutt added into Ep IV, a stupid song and dance sequence in Ep VII), updated special effects and new audio tracks.

Then in 2004, the films were released to DVD - the films went through a major restoration, and again, the special effects in the film were updated once again - quite noticeably, to fit in with (at time) the only two prequels that were released.

Then in 2011, the Blu-rays came out, and surprise, surprise, more special effects updates. Mostly incredibly subtle stuff - but more noticeable changes include a CGI Yoda in Ep I and the sound bite of Vader screaming "Nooooooo!" From the end of Ep III dropped over the top of Vader lifting the Emperor and throwing him down the Death Star schute in Ep VI.

This is probably the most comprehensive list of changes on the Internet.

I'm surprised you've not heard of any of this. These "changes" and Lucas's refusal to release the theatrical versions (in decent quality) on modern home video ("I'm sorry fans saw a half finished film and fell in love with it") is an incredibly sore spot for most Star Wars fans.

George Lucas supervised post-production on Jurassic Park -- he didn't direct any piece of it as far as I know. Spielberg did animatics for three sequences on Sith.

I loved the movies when they were in theatres. But, never really followed the saga. I own the Star Wars Trilogy VHS Special Edition (Silver box) and never watched them. That's how long it's been since I've seen any of the originals.

Thanks for filling me in. I hope one day he allows the release of the originals, the way I saw it way back when.

Oh, cool, fair enough! Yeah, the VHS set you have would be the first release of the films in their "altered" formats.

The original theatrical films were released on DVD only once, when the original trilogy found their first stand-alone releases on DVD, a handful of years after the first DVD boxset was released.

Rumour was, Lucas was sick of fans demanding the original films on the, then, best quality platform, that he decided to release them.

Problem was - there was no money or effort put into remastering the films (it was practically an old laserdisc transfer of the films in a 4:3 letterbox format) and were downgraded to a "special feature" on a second disc. It was a major kick in the nuts to fans.

These sets were only available for a very, very limited time and not everyone who wanted a copy managed to get one.

The release of these films is now out of Lucas' control now that he no longer owns the company - which is somewhat of a blessing - however, all sorts of new problems arise.

Though Disney own Lucasfilm - 20th Century Fox still owns lifetime perpetuity rights to the original film, and owns distribution rights to Empire, Jedi and the Prequels through til 2020. Which would make a release of these somewhat problematic considering Disney owns all character rights.

The entire saga (sans Awakens) was released digitally one or two years ago - under the Disney banner, but as a joint effort by both Disney and Fox.

So, anything's possible.

I hope Disney will be allowed to keep the original Fox logos if they restore the originals. I wouldn't hold my breath though since they axed the logos from the digital versions aside from ANH. This also begs the question. How is the next Indiana Jones film gonna open? Having a new SW film without a Fox logos one thing but the Paramount logo is technically integrated into the Indy films. What happens now? The Disney castle morphs into something???

You will find out that in 2019 But I don't hold on my breath. Harrison will be then very old, and the most important question is : If John Williams will be still with us then? He now is 84, then he will be 87. Just recently he had health problems during recording (for him conducting the orchestra) of the Force Awakens.
And the most important question: will be the screenplay so good as the first three iconic movies?
If they dont resolve this problems, the movie is dead out of the water for me now. And I'm talking this with pain in my heart. 21 years of being fan - well...

Remember how TFA didn't have a Disney logo at the top? And all them Marvel movies too? Indy 5 will open with the LFL logo. Now is the time to mourn for the mountain.

I wouldn't mind them going from LFL logo to Disney castle if somehow the castle could fade into something to start the movie. It's not the mountain but it's better than nothing. Or they'll just figure out something to do with the word "Lucasfilm."

I'd rather they devoted their efforts to making a decent film than farting about doing something with the logo, but that's just me.
