AnamorphicWidescreen, you are showing your ignorance again.

I think AnamorphicWidescreen has been misinterpreted; "Obviously, these prints of the films - especially of ANH, ESB, and ROTJ - are the best prints out there". As far as official releases go, the the definition is above and beyond everything else. Just a pity there are about 99 other problems...

Hey, I am getting good at this hyperbole nonsense, but then again you may think TFA is a great movie, so whatever.

The BDs aren't perfect. That's for sure, but they are far from awful.
They are the best officially available versions out there.

Obviously, these prints of the films - especially of ANH, ESB, and ROTJ - are the best prints out there - truly incredible. The level of detail here (that was missing from previous releases) was profound.

And, of course, the extras on this set are amazing - including the plethora of deleted scenes from the OT (most of which I never saw before), as well as the excellent animated Boba Fett sequence from the late '70's Holiday Special.
No these are the worst versions of the trilogy too many changes crushed blacks the blu ray versions are a crime againt the orignal unalterd trilogy

Yup that one. Had no idea about it but they started showing it at the bar I was at yesterday, so I DVR'd it when I got home. Nothing great, but always nice to see the BTS stuff, even if it's recycled.

Perhaps but then again I always assume we mean what's officially available presently. I wasn't counting the digital versions in this case either.

*looks over to his Star Wars shelf* I see VHS tapes and DVDs. It was also released on LaserDisc, but I don't own that. Star Wars is pretty much released on everything. It's the #1 most re-released movie franchise.

This is true-- I've watched the Blu-Rays on my projector and they're... fine. Not the level of quality you would expect from Lucasfilm and Star Wars, which probably are among the top films most deserving to be available in the finest restored quality possible. Outdated transfers with room for improvement? Yes. But awful? Nah. Tremors, Face/Off, the Predator: Ultimate Hunter Edition-- those are awful transfers.

The Blu-ray is awful!
I decided to match your screen capture just for kicks and to get the full 1080 image:

Ok, but how many shots are upscaled like that? Overall, like I said, the transfers are mediocre, especially considering we're talking Star Wars here. They're outdated (they were prepared for the 2004 DVD set, after all) and the classic trilogy definitely needs a brand new restoration released (and the best part is any film restoration wouldn't have any of the alterations done for the DVD versions onward!)

But I still say they aren't among the worst most terrible transfers I've ever seen. They're watchable on my big projector screen. They're not a constant DNR/EE eyesore like Tremors, Face/Off, 40-Year-Old Virgin, or a lot of Universal's crappy Blu-Rays when they totally sucked at catalog titles.

The actual worst transfer in the Star Wars set is The Phantom Menace. Not as horrifyingly DNR'd as Predator: UHE but pretty bad. That one needs a new transfer along with the classics. And while we're including everything supposedly the color-timing is a bit off on the Attack of the Clones transfer, so if they're ever gonna release some Ultimate restored mega-box set they might as well fix that too.

Finally got the complete saga on BD, the Vader cover version. I didn't like the old type package with the discs in those slips since ive found they scratch them over time.

Say, if the digibook's pages aren't 100% flat, can they actually deform the discs?

Pretty cool. Interestingly, it was the opening credits for ESB that led Lucas to part ways with Hollywood and go independent. The director's guild of america fined him $250k for not including a standard opening credits sequence despite Lucas' protests that it woukd disrupt the opening of the film.

How come in those credits, C-3PO receives more prominence than R2-D2?
