Turner pays $250 million for TV rights to 10 Star Wars film. I wonder how much FOX got out of that since they had to do a separate agreement with them for A New Hope?
If you crop it to 16:9 do you save 25% on the licensing for 25% less picture? Inquiring minds want to now.

Starz recently premiered TFA in stinking 16:9 crop, what a crock.

Yeah, I hate when they do that to 2.35:1 films too.

Speaking of Starz, you'd think they would've aired the first 6 too (well, there's always 2017).

All movies should be 16x9.

Finn was just as annoying as Jar Jar Binnks. The fan homages were hamfisted. I think this movie is not as good as TPM or ROTS, but better than Attack of the clones. Just total, unimaginative, homage, unoriginal JJA shit.
Everything else aside, Kylo is supposed to be a whiny brat with a lot of power. That's the point of the character, and a big part of Star Wars' moral (selfishness, spoiledness and greed leading to evil).

I'd say AOTC/TFA are about equal in my rankings, ie the bottom of the barrel...but AOTC was still more imaginative, so I'd rank it slightly above, just slightly more watchable haha.

One on hand, I did like that parallel to Anakin, and if I had to choose a character I liked in the movie, it'd be him. Least disliked, I guess. The SNL skit was hilarious though.

Superman is not a compelling character to me, he never has been, never will be. Not the comic books, not Donner's attempt, not Singer's, and certainly not Snyder's. He is an overrated, overpowered god-like character, who has no inherent flaws. Very much (!) like Rey. Also, outside of them both being shitty god-like characters, the comparison is somewhat moot. Luke, and even Anakin had to undergo several trials in the movies to gain power. Rey, well "she has training and in the books and the future movies it'll be explained." A future movie, and needing to read a novel is not, and should never be a pre-requisite to watching the film in front of me.

He is annoying. He sucks. He has lines of "comedic relief" that were anything but. The comparison is an apt one to me.

Any takers?

He doesn't objectively suck or annoy, in the sense that this is the first time I've heard anyone say that. His comedy lines are not objectively unfunny, as various people have said that they liked them, including some people here. He doesn't come off as a misguided attempt to cater to young children. He doesn't speak in high-pitched baby-talk while cribbing lines from the Olsen twins on "Full House". He doesn't juggle, pratfall, or step in shit.

The comparison sucks.

As far as I'm concerned, a true Star Wars fan would always give the prequels and The Force Awakens the benefit of the doubt, and not resort to immature "worst movies ever" rants. As Eric Idle says, "Always look on the bright side of life."

I don't think any movies should be 16:9. Not even if they were shot that way! JK

Are there even any movies in theaters that are 16:9? Whenever I see a movie in that aspect ratio on my TV I always think they either cropped the sides a bit and zoomed in or just included more image on the top and/or bottom and it annoys me. Black bars rule!

There can't just be "old and new", "mirroring", and "paralleling" in a film to help it feel distinct in its own right. Yes, I will admit that we have seen some of these elements before-the droid holding a secret message, the rogue warrior turning on what he once believed was the right path, a seduction to evil, a journey into the light, a giant, larger than life sized death planet-we've seen these plot points before. But keep in mind-this is a SAGA! It's supposed to rhyme ("It's like poetry, it rhymes"-George Lucas). As a writer, you have to stay consistent with what you're writing about. You have to keep your poetry or stories flowing properly or else things become convoluted and confusing, and that doesn't make sense to your audience, or whoever is reading/watching your work. Heck, that was a HUGE complaint about the Prequels, was it not!

To remake a film is to take a pre-existing film and basically update it. To mirror and parallel a film is to pay tribute, while making it feel old and new at the same time. That's basically what I'm trying to say here! Parallels are not a remake, nor is mirroring, and I feel like that's something that people are misunderstanding here. I'm sorry if I sounded a bit harsh and upset while writing this, but I can't hold back while a great film is insulted and accused of just being a blatant cash-grab or rehash of something we've seen before.

If your biggest complaint with this film is that it is too much like the original films, then that is NOT a complaint, but rather a COMPLIMENT! Isn't that what all of us wanted, fans and newbies alike?!

It's interesting the way the narrative of how these movies are received is changing. In 1987, when I was a wee lad discovering what good music was, you could go see the live Pink Floyd or you could go see Roger Waters. I chose to go see Roger Waters and have never regretted it. I listened to Pink Floyd. On the surface, their Momentary Lapse Of Reason lp is not without its charms. I can listen to it occasionally now. But. It's not really Pink Floyd. We all know that deep down.
