Too much work and I wouldn't even know how to do all that. Easier to just pop in a (*gasp*) DVD. Plus there's something weirdly charming about watching Star Wars without it all cleaned up and shiny looking.

It's more time-consuming than anything, really.

Even though the transfer sucks, I am glad to have the original cuts on-disc and in the correct aspect ratio at least. It's a helluva lot better than VHS lol.

And aren't the despecialized (sic) editions still only 720p? And I'm assuming pretty heavily compressed?

It's not a solution, that's for sure.

Star Wars where Han shoots first in VHS quality will always be better than Star Wars where Han ducks out of the way in HD.

No they're not heavily compressed.

They really are the best and ONLY solution. I'm happy to say I've never watched official blu-ray.

Well I've never watched the official Blu Ray either and will never spend money on it, but the despecialized edition isn't the solution in the sense that we need a proper release.

I still have my GOUT DVDs fortunately. Yes they were rather insulting to fans when first released, still are in ways, but since its the last time the originals will likely be released and seeing how much they go for on ebay these days Im happy to have them. Id rather have a crappy quality cut of the originals then an excellent quality cut of the current versions. However, Im with some of you above. The GOUT isn't as bad as fans make them out to be. Get rid of the motion smearing and make them anamorphic widescreen Id be perfectly happy with them.

And have the original alien subtitles. If they did all that for a DVD release I'd buy it in a heartbeat!

Let's put it this way: if, for the rest of my life, I never got an official release of the OT, I'd be fine with Despecialized. I'd say that about 95% of my complaining about the lack of OT on Blu-ray has been minimized from it and, to be honest, I don't have the faith in whomever will ultimately be responsible for a possible OT release to do it properly. With Despecialized, you get every single audio option/mix all under one roof. I don't have to worry about getting a brand new mix that buries the score or replaces sound effects. It's the way it was and SHOULD be.

By the time I got to it the rocket didn't fire... it had been changed to an immovable piece of plastic that was wedged in there hard.

Apparently people were shooting their eye out Christmas Story style...

That was debunked... wasn't it?
Ugh, so many stories about it, that I can no longer keep up.
Well, that and I don't really care about the toys anymore.

What's to debunk?? It was never released. Period. That was never a theory or rumor.

While I hate the special editions I honestly don't care enough about Star Wars to bother getting a BD drive for my PC or watching the movies on my monitor. Maybe that makes me a jerk, I dunno, but I'll just watch the discs and ignore the stupid stuff and wait for a hoped for 4k remaster of the original cuts.

P.S. Empire is the only 5-star movie in the series and it has the least horrible changes.

The changes in Jedi are way too severe to ignore, it's unwatchable. I think the special edition and 2011 versions are partly to blame for that film's declining reputation over the years. I'll defend the theatrical cut of Jedi for life. Flawed for sure, but still a rousing trilogy closer.

If your blu-ray player has a USB port then you can watch Despecialized via hard drive or flash drive instead of burning a disc. Though I much prefer Team Negative1's 35mm film scans of Star Wars & ESB, and Harmy's 35mm LPP of Return of the Jedi. It's pure film without the noticeable (at times) rotoscoping of the Despecialzed editions.

P.S. Eps 4-7 are all 5 star for me in terms of how much nostalgia and entertainment value I get out of them, but 4 & 5 are the only two I can objectively say are 5 star films.

STAR WARS and EMPIRE are classics.

EMPIRE is my personal favourite-even if it's half a movie.

I found the orange and brown blacks and the pink whites too distracting.
