But we've already seen Disney unceremoniously dump the Fox logos on the digital streaming versions (which clearly weren't covered in the contract's small print, perpetual rights to IV notwithstanding so it kept the logo) so after 2020 who knows what they'll do with the Fox logos on the films in every other medium that they'll control. They may be retained for history's sake, but several studios are terrible for keeping their own classic logos on new transfers of their catalogue films, never mind retaining somebody else's!

The one thing that applies post-2020 is Fox apparently still owning the distribution rights to IV, which Disney will remedy by trying to buy it outright (if internal talks haven't already been broached on that subject I'd be surprised) or they'll just licence the title from Fox for any post-2020 Disney/LFL boxsets. People make so much of a big deal out of all this but it's really very straightforward.
Disney's imagineer team and Fox's James Cameron are set to make an announcement regarding Avatar on Sunday. Disney's sunk a giant pile of money into the Avatar business...lots of room there for some bargaining chips in the unending poker game of the entertainment industry. Not saying Fox will ever never ever sell the distribution rights just as a matter of company pride. Just saying there's potential there with Disney and Fox having shared interests. Al Michaels gets very angry when people bring up the fact that NBC included rights to Oswald the Lucky Rabbit when ABC agreed to allow them to buy out his contract ("I wasn't traded for a rabbit!" etc.), but that's how these things work.

I think Fox knew that the Avatar business was going to be a bit bigger than they could handle so they've welcomed Disney's overtures. Nothing has changed re: EP IV yet otherwise the streaming version still wouldn't say © Fox but yes, they've been bedfellows before and they will be again.

The streaming version says © Fox??? Weird - the blu-ray says © LucasFilm.

I'm sure it did when the streaming versions first appeared, as in the copyright notice on the listing, not the movie itself. There was even a bit in the FAQ on the Disney site that actually said: Q) "Why is Star Wars Ep IV not on the Disney streaming", A) "Fox still own the rights to this movie" or words to that effect. But now it's all switched to Netflix so I've got no idea what's on there.

Not re-buying this. Especially after the latest South Park episodes which just re-inforced the feeling I had when I saw this movie the first time. J.J. is not good at original ideas in movies he's directed and TFA is just recycling old stuff and using it as comfort food for the masses who will eat it up no matter what.

I'm really hoping that Rogue One is better but all the Disney meddling to make it more "fun" is worrying.

Hang on, this is what I mean Ernest (scroll about a third of the way down): https://www.disneymoviesanywhere.com/#135

Ugh, the link ^ just goes straight to the main screen, but if you go to Support then Top Questions you'll see this:

But you're otherwise right about the credit, if I look at Ep IV on itunes, say, then it says © LFL with no mention of Fox, as they all do.

Gotcha. Funny how one word ("distribution") would clear this up, no wonder there's still so much confusion about the situation.

Exactly, it's the 'd' word other than "Disney" that's at the heart of all of this.

Watched the blu ray of ROTJ last night for the first time.

I thought Vader's "No!" worked fine. I'd seen a clip of just that bit before and thought it was daft. But it actually plays out rather well in the larger context.

It didn't seem to give away the fact it had been taken from another line in another movie either.

You're crazy. That Nooooo takes away the suspense from the whole scene. Will he side with the Emperor or with his son?

I was concerned about that too. But it didn't diminish that aspect of it for me.

In fact after being thoroughly cheesed off when the clip was first posted on youtube during the set's release, I had clean forgot about it by the time I put the Blu ray on last night.

Seeing ROTJ in HD for the first time (since '97) in any form was great. When it happened I just though "Oh yea. They added that." It seemed kind of in the right place not to undercut any suspense that the original form had, IMO.

All complaints surrounding it are entirely valid in the "If it aint broke.." sense. But I don't believe what we had before is now broken by this "fix".

Take it from me. After seeing the addition in isolation I was as incensed as Simon Pegg when he lamented the loss of Vader's mute sacrifice. When you think about it, it makes more sense that Vader is acting on his passion to save Luke and defy his master, rather than Vader's sudden selflessness. I never believed Vader knew it was a act of self sacrifice anyway. He's just observed his son endure several minutes of Palpatine's power. Of course, it's complicated by his dependence of apparatus to keep him alive. But it was definitely a passionate, desperate act.

It's nowhere near as bad as I had first felt it was.

I'm not as discontented as I had imagined I should be about it.

Still long for the originals to be properly restored though. Don't misunderstand me.

The "noooooo" is honestly super low on my list of disliked changes. It's definitely better silent, but I never really hated it. When I made the wife finally watch the trilogy before Force Awakens came out she actually said that no was one of her favorite moments.

I still hate the nooooooooooooooooooo. As crazy as it sounds I could always tell what Vader was thinking underneath the helmet, struggling with his feelings between the dark and the light (amplified by him having been here before with Mace vs Palps), but then we get this goofy-as-**** NooOOOOooOOOOOoooo and it ruins that moment for me.

+1. My favourite part of Jedi ruined. Totally unnecessary, like the rock and Jabba's door. More crap Lucas can't help himself with. Like picking a scab, it's never gonna heal.

Changing "Bring My Shuttle" which succinctly conveyed Vader's barely contained frustration and determination, plus the suggestion that he wasn't finished with the rebels yet, to a description of what Vader's about to do ove the course of the next few minutes and why, then showing how that plays out - getting in shuttle, the shuttle taking him to the Star Destroyer (lucky he told them to be prepared otherwise they might have all gone to bed) and then him actually arriving at the Destroyer, as promised in his earlier description - was immeasurably more annoying and unnecessary than vocalising Vader's emotion in the midst of his moment of redemption.

Turned a whole sequence from impressing the audience with Vader's seeming omnipresence and the rebel's hopelessness into a display of logistics and Imperial procedure.

And yet, that change in dialogue in Empire never bothered me. Adding in the Star Destroyer stuff and an outtake from Jedi was beyond useless but the actual dialogue change I can live with.

For me, the entire tone and subtext of the original line seems to have been discarded purely to have a little introduction the explains the upcoming useless added footage.
