I know but they are inferior to fan made despecialized versions. Plus they go for some good $

He was awesome but in the end he is just a cool design. He has no character.

That's where his arc in The Clone Wars comes in handy.

They actually MADE him into an intelligent character and it works surprisingly well. I won't go into too much detail in case of spoilers, but it's really cool what they've done with him in the animated series.

I actually thought a lot was established in acting with little time. He not only said so much with so little, but the skill in fighting, the head movement.

Way underrated if you ask me. This character and the pod race are the many reasons to watch episode 1.

Too bad they left it for that. Can't see myself watching an animated show set during the prequels. I hope Disney will use Maul in the future stand-alone movies. At some point they will not be scared to use stuff from the prequels anymore.

To his credit, Lucas admitted he had no idea that Maul would become so popular. He later said that if he had known, Maul would've taken Dooku's place, eventually being killed by Anakin.

It would be good if they made more sense of the Sith relationship than the PT managed to (why, for instance, are there "only ever two"?!) and gave some arc to Maul's story. In the PT, he was barely established before he failed and died -- that's not much of a Big Bad.

But then we wouldn't get the kick ass Christopher Lee and with him an Cushing sharing the Star Wars universe...well that just wouldn't be right.

I like Maul how he was. Like Boba Fett, here and gone, and having a cult following that can be expanded on later.

Good detail despite grain management, though could be better. Still dying for a remaster but it was more watchable than I thought. Weird.

However that frozen grain is now super obvious at 60". Blech!

But, yeah, it too badly needs to be redone.
I agree that Empire is the best looking out of the Lowry transfers but it still has major issues.

I don't like the colour timing during the Dagobah scenes. There's far too much blue and green which along with the boosted contrast makes it look like Luke and Yoda are on a radioactivity contaminated planet.

Than there's the frozen grain and Darth Vader's beautiful pink, coreless lightsaber...

Rogue One has inspired me to go through the BD's again. It's been a while.

Holy crap I've forgotten how DNR'ed the transfer of TPM is!

Everyone looks like they're melting!

And yet, it's the best this movie has ever looked. Sadly.

Yup.

Had it not been DNR'ed it probably would've looked fantastic.

I still can't get over how awful the DVD transfer is.

The blue push is really noted on Hoth too.
The color is completely off on all of them, but least damage on Empire.
When these get remastered (hopefully unaltered), I really, really hope they get the original color and shadows down. This is so important.

Funnily enough I actually don't mind the blue tint on Hoth. I just wish it was consistent.

It goes from appearing in one shot to being completely missing in the next than suddenly it re-appears again.

It's really noticeable during the battle sequence.

But yeah I agree with you that if they get released and remastered again the original look of the films should be preserved.

Especially if it's the theatrical cuts.

Blue Hoth is probably the least offensive.

The weird red-orangey look the skintones often take on bother me the most in the series.

I don't mind the blue on Hoth too much. Sure the original is better but blue does still somewhat tie into snow. Now Vaders pink saber that's a big no no!

No thanks. He's already been needlessly resurrected and crapped on enough. He's one of the coolest characters in the lore precisely because we know so little about him.

I remember Hoth always being super blue. In fact I didn't think the BD looked blue enough. However I am sure watching it 100 times growing up on a super blue CRT television is a big factor there.

I think I just used up all my thanks for the day on this last couple of pages re: the overbaked Blu-rays. The colour is comically over-saturated at times and the frozen grain is painfully obvious. Detail is often excellent but it usually comes at the expense of the image looking too falsely sharp and 'digital'.

And while we're at it, I hope the sound gets redone for Empire and Jedi as well on any future versions. While Star Wars got remixed again for the Blu-ray to correct the "deliberate creative decisions" of the 2004 DVD mix, Empire and Jedi are using the same clipped, overcooked mixes as before.

Both the video transfers and the audio mixes (Star Wars apart) are relics of the DVD era for which they were created, being designed for maximum visual 'pop' & aural 'loudness' on systems of the time but they're shown up badly some 12 years later.
