I'm usually a proponent of a case per movie but in this case (see what I did there? ), I'd like to get it in cases like Lord of the Rings did, just with things changed up a bit: a 6 Disc for all the films and a 3-Disc case for just the features.

Sounds like 1 specials disc per trilogy, no? So 4 discs per trilogy. Then 1 special for the whole saga.

Yeah. It should be interesting to see how the special features break down. I wonder how long we'll have to wait to find out.

I found this link of the SW announcement at CES yesterday:

Sorry, if it has been posted already.

Go listen to your Episode III commentary during the "fertility" floating ballet sequence. Anakin *was* created by the Sith, by Palpatine (or Plagueis), but the specific revelation was re-written to make the scene more ambiguous (what is Palpatine lying about, what is he not lying about).

Go listen to that, then go back to Episode I and watch the "blood" scene where Obi and QGJ run Anakin's sample. What music does John Williams start playing before scene's end? It's a Sith theme. Lucas was trying to mirror the "I am your father" revelation in Empire with another parental revelation in Sith...and how the revelation to Anakin that his "father" was a Sith lord, that he was created by the Sith - that leads to Anakin's conflicted loyalties, and sets up a whopper of a climax in ROTJ...

...but Lucas went for the ambiguous route instead. Anyway, THAT is why you have the midichlorian business in Phantom Menace. It was a narrative construct that was supposed to pay off in Sith.
Yes. That's quite interesting, isn't it? Too bad most prequel haters rather rely on theredletterreviews than think for themselves.

This thread is slowin' down fellas!!! We need some more SW blu-ray news so we can keep it chuggin' because you know that after it's released your going to get nothing but "I've got a problem w/ my disc/packaging/they didn't fix the lightsabers!" posts, and "Hey is this a good blindbuy?" posts. Actually probably not the latter, but you know what I mean.

It was kind of underplayed that Palpatine took Darth Plagueis' knowledge and then assassinated him to become no.1 Sith, he then used his stolen skills to created Anakin, it was downplayed in the film because Lucas might have realised that fans might riot if it was made too apparent (we don't always need every tied in a neat little bow). Personally I didn't really want Palpatine to be Anakin's father.

After that YouTube video at the show we no longer have to complain about the line "Nnnooooooooo", been Darth's worst dialogue....

Maybe most prequel haters rely on their own sense of what makes a good movie...

That announcement was cringeworthy as well. What was Vader 5'10" ? Gay it was. Almost rather watch a MS keynote.

I really hope that gets an HD upgrade at some point so I can replace my dvds, but I've got to think it would get a standalone release. Plus, I'm hoping they really go all out with the special features this time. As classy as some of the SW and Indy box sets have been in the past, they never seem to be as comprehensive as they should be.

I'd love to see From Star Wars to Jedi show up in the special features. I haven't seen it in a long time and don't know what happened to my VHS copy (not that I have anything to play it on anyway).

I can understand why he dislikes it and wouldn't make it a key bonus feature or something, but it would make for a cool easter egg buried on one of the discs.

It's buried already. In a shallow grave in the middle of nowhere alongside the E.T. 2600 Cartridges.

Wow! I am currently listening to the AOTC soundtrack, which I cannot wait to experience in lossless audio!

Personally, I'm worried "puppet Yoda" in Empire and Jedi is going to be one of those things left for the three bonus discs. Lucas hinted a few years ago that he fixed most of what he wanted in the original Star Wars, but that there was plenty of work left for Empire and Jedi. I wouldn't be surprised in the least to see all of Jabba's palace creatures "updated", and won't be surprised to see the Oz puppet of Yoda updated as well.
I,for one, would love that to be true!

The poll was created a long time before the official announcement, but yes, I'd like to see a new poll too.

Which version will you be buying?:

Complete Saga

Original Trilogy

Prequel Trilogy

;4229267]Found this on another forum but can't find the original post. No link was provided....but interesting nonetheless. I've also heard rumors that Lucas never stopped working on the films even after they were released in '04...

"TheForce.net user Chreff allegedly has connections at Lucasfilm, and he's explained why the 2004 DVDs looked so bad, and how the Blu-Ray version will have fixed all the problems that the 2004 transfer had, and he also makes the claim that this is Lucas's "final" version of Star Wars. I kind of doubt that since there's still the 3D release looming ahead, and if Lucas is given enough time I suspect he'll think up new things to tweak, but overall Chreff's post sounds encouraging, not just for the Blu-Ray release but for the digital preservation of Star Wars in general. He even mentions Adywan. "

" Chreff said:

Let me see if I can be more clear. The 1997 SE was a restored version of the original print plus new effects added. What they did in 2004 was completely disassemble the restored film, cleaned it more and scanned everything in the computer separately. THis basically means the celluloid negative will never have to be touched again. They then re-composited the films together back into the SE version with more additions. Because this process is almost like putting a film together again from scratch, the original color timing that was done in 1977 or 1997 was basically erased and had to be redone. The problem is that because they attempted to meet a DVD release deadline they completed the composites but never finished the color, sound and other little things that would normally be done on a full restoration. That's why things that weren't even in the original release in '77 (like the big blue halo around the Death Star explosion in ANH) are seen on the 2004 DVD. The digital transfer is almost too good.

What's good about all this though is that everything is in a computer at super high res quality. They can pretty much dial in a piece of film and the effect and adjust and correct at will. It's far less laborious than trying to redo real film. Instead of having to mess with celluloid they just hit a keyboard. They put all 3 films together for the 2004 release in less than a year. They've now had 6 years to do the same work. There's no question this quality will be the best ever for SW.

I know how this process works because I have experience in digital editing and also follow SW quite closely, obviously. I also know people in the business who are involved and I know the restoration on the SW saga was still being done long after the DVD release. People like to call GL names but he's continued to put a lot of cash into this project for years (as he should since this is where everything started). The blu-ray is essentially the final version of SW.

The lightsabers will be fixed, especially the green one in ANH. That black smudge on the Emperor in ROTJ? Gone. Those boxes around TIE fighters in ANH? Bye bye! The magically appearing TIE's in the ROTJ space battle? I don't know about that one honestly. It's won't be like that Adywan Revisited stuff though. I'm as anxious to see it as anyone to see it all on my 55" plasma!"

Yeah, utterly ridiculous!

The trailer looks like junk, and I am sure it doesn't represent what we will be getting on BD at all.

Would be cool, yes!

Either way! This set is going to blow us away, except for those who can never be satisfied, which there seem to be an awful amongst the Star Wars nerd crowd!

I hope I won't have to be one of them!

As long as PQ and AQ are top notch (best possible) I won't complain.

People are already demanding 11.1 DTS-HD MA sound, and scrutinize the BD trailer as if it was the finished product.
There is no way people won't get disappointed again.
Evil Lucas has raped our adulthood!! Boo hoo boo hoo!
I actually feel kind of sorry for them.

I wrote a letter to Lucasfilm some years ago about this and the original versions. While I do not mind his choice to hold back certain things about Star Wars, I wanted to explain that many of these things he may not like are part of history and have an importance. I respect his choice of not releasing it but that I felt he should release the holliday special and the original version of the movies. I was polite and try to explain the historical part of it and that even the fans who like myself enjoy the Special Edition would still enjoy watching them as we first saw them when we were kids.

You will notice here, I wrote a letter to Lucasfilm, I was polite, respectful and send it to the source, instead of calling George Lucas a hack all over the Internet

Did you get a response back from Lucasfilm? Even a canned response? Maybe an autographed flannel shirt?

That's one thing I always liked about Lucas. The fact he seemed so relaxed and just hung around in flannel shirts.

Hell, if you've ever seen him in a Tux for awards dinners and stuff... he looks so uncomfortable. Like a kid forced to dress up.

BluYoda,

I found a copy of the ILM documentary online and actually just finished watching it.

It's fantastic. Yeah, if you know the Star Wars story, then you know the story of ILM. Most of the stuff mentioned in the doc, I already knew but that didn't make a difference. This is the definitive doc on ILM.

Funny enough, it was onlly 57 minutes. Somewhere, there's an extended version of this documentary.

I should've expected the doc to be great. It was done by the same filmmaker who did that wonderful documentary on Pixar called "The Pixar Story" that's on the Wall E blu ray set....

I hope the comment about prequel haters relying on redletterreviews wasn't directed at me. It's no mystery that the prequels are some of the most artificial, horribly directed, horribly written, horribly acted, horribly scripted movies ever made. It doesn't take a genius to tell that the prequels don't have a single drop of the charm that made the originals so great.

I was just posting the link to the redletterreviews because I had just found out about them and thought they were incredibly spot on for revealing pretty much every single problem (a painstaking process) of the prequel trilogy.

If you enjoy the movies, good for you. A friend and I try to watch Attack of the Clones yearly to basically laugh out loud at the entire thing (we try to think of it as a comedy, like Lucas made it that bad purposefully). It's actually a great movie to watch as such. I assure you that the both of us are HUGE Star Wars nerds that could tell you about the entire Star Wars history.

Anyways, not relying on the redletterreviews; I just shared the link so everybody else could enjoy them.
