If I recall, he felt the action of Han shooting first was not very heroic and more in line with a villainous character. He feelings towards the character clearly changed over the course of the original series as Solo does everything only a hero would do. I.E.: self sacrifice, leading the ground assault, getting the girl...lol, so shooting first wouldn't fit with the character's progression over the course of the series (but it IS called progression for a reason, as he clearly finds something worth fighting for).

The shoot first mentality is much more representative of the villians in this series. The heroes usually respond to violence, not cause it. Its the jedi way...lol

All I can say is our opinions change as we get older and this is clearly the same with Lucas. He's only mortal.

Don't judge the quality of the blu-rays from the trailer the blu-rays will be twice as better than that. It's just a trailer.

They have No-Prize explained the bloody arm in A New Hope a few ways.

Ponda Baba's Species has a different physiology to "humans", so heat doesn't cauterize their wounds. He is an alien after all.

Or that Ben's lightsaber wasn't fully charged or was faulty from decades of inactivity while Obi-Wan was in hiding.
Which also explains why the Saber glitches during the fight with Darth Vader later on the Death Star.

Lightsabers also have various settings. You can actually grasp the blade of one on it's lowest settings.
Ben may have not wanted to cauterize the wound, since he was only trying to teach a lesson. That way, Ponda could have had it reattached.

But is there really progression if he was already doing what any hero would do from the beginning? Based on that, the only progression Han made would be finding something to fight for. I think it would have been more of a progression if he wasn't seen as a hero in the beginning, which was made clear based on his character being involved with the likes of Jabba. Han being morally ambiguous in the beginning makes his change to a full-fledged hero in the end with his act of redemption by saving Luke even more meaningful.

Well anyway, it doesn't really bother me that much and I'm still excited for this release. While I love the original release, I also like the upgrades Lucas made to the effects so either way I'd probably still be buying both whether or not the unaltered originals are released.

Oh, my sarsasm didn't translate about character progression! I agree with you 100% that Han being morally ambigous is what would allow him to progress (let's not forget, Shooting Greedo was NOT the last time Han shot first..lol...think the Dinner scene in Empire and walking into the prison block, so on and so forth). The change of shooting Greedo first hurts the progression of the character, but doesn't totally kill it. He goes from not believing in the force, but to believing (even though making the force 'science' in the prequel trilogy and not mystical kills that too, its like not believing in amebas...). But maybe with the Jedi being all but whipped out in the prequel series and an Empire put in place, perhaps the Emporer had such things hidden from the general public? Like book burning or something?

Either way, I think we both agree and these movies are fun as hell to talk about. Cannot wait to own them (again...)

I think there's less than zero chance of that ever seeing the light of day officially.

If anything, I would at least like to see them include the Boba Fett toon from it.

Carrie Fisher singing was definitely the highlight from that presentation.

That's encouraging. I'm already excited about this, but if we get these on BR with the minor tweaks we've all pretty much been begging for since the '04 release my anticipation will officially kick into overdrive.

Boba Fett toon was extremely mediocre but compared to the rest of the special is a masterpeice. Most people who say they want that movie on Blu-Ray probably haven't seen it

Jackson openly begged Lucas for a role in Star Wars, but only if he didn't "go out like a punk." With such a high-profile actor (ie. cameo-heavy - since Pulp Fiction he's become a parody of himself in films, much like De Niro in Analyze This and the Fockers series) you can't help but feel like Mace Windu was underdeveloped and underused. Anyone else feel this way?

Portman had never seen a single SW film prior to production and was pushed to do it by her agent because it would launch her career (it did).

I don't believe McGregor was a fan either.

They were willing to do it but other than Jackson none of them were particularly enthralled by the idea either.

Not sure if this was posted yet, but here's the video of Star Wars being announced at CES:

It's incredibly hokey...

Actor Denis Lawson -- who is Ewan McGregor's real-life uncle -- played Wedge Antilles in the classic trilogy. So if he wasn't a fan then he would have at least respected the series.

It's not like the actors of a New Hope took it because they thought they were making art.
