I never said that the Blu-Ray wasn't 1080p.
All I said was that the image quality was barely at 720p quality

They cut that out!?! I wouldn't say worst, but certainly in the top 5!

I'm just over here, blu ray less (and sad about it) but happy to not have to witness the abominable changes that have snowballed over the years. As a long time SW fan, seeing the special editions in the theater and going "huh, well some of those changes are embarrassing but some are good, good thing I own the VHS so I can watch the real Star Wars at home" has now been a stalemate for awhile. I own the non-animorphic dvds, but thanks to Harmy I have a decent looking version on my big tv for my kids to enjoy.

However, IF in 2020 it gets released without the opening FOX fanfare, it will not be the same SW experience for me, OT or not. That is so ingrained in my subconscious fandom that the thought of it makes me sad. So yeah, Han shooting first or blumpy Jabba or Vader NOOOO, you can imagine how against those things I am if just a corporate logo at the beginning of the picture throws off my enjoyment.

I've heard nothing but good things about those Despecialized Editions and the screenshots I've seen look great. But I remember looking at some instructions on how to get them awhile back and they just seemed so complicated, including possibly having to convert them to another video format after download if you wanted to watch them via flash drive through a player or burn them to disc.

Hence me saying....if possible.

He said bye because he was a realist, but he did not know absolutely the outcome. I imagine he would have killed Vader if he could have. He had pause with Vader the moment he saw the red saber. I still shudder at that part.

BTW, quoting Star Wars to me is like showing a nun the existance of the bible. Helpful in thought, but useless in action.

Xxxxxxx

Ben,

It is 1080p. There is no other way to put it. If you are saying it is not much better than the quality of a well mastered DVD that is 720p, well that is a matter of opinion. The facts don't support it.

This Star Wars bluray is 1080p and not "barely 720p".

There can be examples of barely 720p for instance if the resolution is exactly that, but also if it uses inferior sources that are less than that....i.e. interlaced sources.

Xxxxx

crissrudd relax. Just wanted to know if you noticed it. One of the reasons I looked for other ways to see the movie.

The mindset of transfers is outdated and flawed IMHO. It was from first inception because of how one achieved it by silly cutting and pasting.

I applaud the effort, but not the mechanics.

Do you like Episode IV logo? I do not, nor do I like the various sources cobbled together. Just my opinion.

I downloaded them and never had to do any conversions to get them on my hard drive.

I heard that it was because they used the 70mm mixes as the basis for the discrete 5.1, which was a very common move at that time when creating 5.1 mixes. Instead of having to re-record the discrete multi-channel mix from scratch using the DME stems (bearing in mind that Dolby Stereo is a matrixed Lt-Rt mix) they already had a discrete printmaster for the basic L,C,R,S surround layout (with the other two channels in the 70mm 6-track as 'baby boom', i.e. bass) so that was ported across, sometimes without any sweetening or decorrelation for the mono rear channel which was patently obvious on early Fox DVDs in particular.

From what I understand the 70mm Star Wars was 3 channels in front (left, center, right) and 1 rear with 2 base channels.

This was remixed make the 5.1 DTS MA that was used recently.

Just like with Apocalypse Now in 6 channel discrete, it is why that bluray, and the other version of Star Wars sound so darn good.

They were originally multi-channel and thus don't take that much processing as you say.

This was why I recently ripped the 4 channel from Xanadu DVD in place of the DTSMA of the bluray. There is no question that while being lossy, it at least sounds more authentic because of more aggressive surrounds.

The same holds true with ripping the 70mm mix and pairing it with the 35mm print. The 70mm Star Wars visually was fake because of it being a 35mm blow up, but the discrete sound was great. However, Lucas has claimed that the Mono is the final mix hence the "close the blast doors" line only being present on that version until home versions came into play.

Not to mention the Imperial Fleet music stings are different, which match the score soundtrack and not the repeated Imperial March themes for when Needa's shuttle goes to the Executor and right before the bounty hunters sequence.

I have the Intrada JAWS soundtrack, and it blows my mind that they had to jump through digital hoops to create a stereo mix for it because the entire original score was recorded in mono. The new mix is a beautiful thing to hear, and they included the original mono soundtrack release as a bonus, along with incidental music...here's the back cover.

Definitely a worthwhile purchase if you ask me. I was totally psyched that they restored the correct take of 'Man Against Beast'. When they remixed Jaws for the DVD release there was tape damage to that track so a different take was used. The Intrada release restores the take from the original mono!

There is no definitive proof of given for why, just some hearsay really. I'm going to guess it gets chalked back to some joker at Skywalker Sound screwing with the mix, like when Leia fired that .45 in the Death Star. As far as I can tell the only true experts on SW don't work for LucasArts or Disney, they are the obsessed fans who've watched it 100x and who can pick out which sound or line is wrong instantly or who was under what mask when. Most of everyone getting paid to do these things just does as they are told as professionally as possible. I bet a lot of those little audio changes just crept in and George just goes "sounds good to me." Heck, half the audio commentaries for my favorite movies the director starts off by saying "well this should be good, I haven't watched this in 10 years..." which boggles my mind

It was Day One purchase...I love Intrada, my only gripe is limiting the runs. Sure, it creates buyer urgency, a common sales technique, but at the same time, stops people from having legit access to great work. I only have a few Intrada releases...The Black Cauldron, Temple of Doom, A.I., Those Calloways (Max Steiner), The Rescuers Down Under, Hook, Empire of the Sun.

The Prequels suck, George Lucas didn't rape your childhood, the BDs look and sound like crap and we are never getting the UOT. Now you are all caught up.

Shouldn't be surprising, you move on to what you're doing on your next job, take care of family, etc.

Why dost it boggle thine noggin, good sir? The one overriding thing that seems common to most artists IMO is that they don't like revisiting past work, and movies in particular take a LOT out of people, potentially years of one's life if investing into a franchise or whatever. Directors and editors will have seen the movie hundreds of times over during post-production, and in modern times with all that CG it means having to QC hundreds or even thousands of shots, sending them back multiple times with revisions and changes and whatever. Regardless of whether they feel the end product is a misfire or a masterpiece, they're usually in no hurry to watch it again, and if you're in the middle of a blockbuster franchise then the work on the next one starts just as soon as the previous is one is completed, e.g. James Gunn said he started writing Guardians Vol.2 the day that Vol.1 premiered!
