I'll believe it when I see it. I'd much rather someone else handle the OOT restoration besides Lowry.

Stopped collecting pretty much a short time after Revenge of the Sith. Other than the occassional Jar Jar figure.

All the prequels suffer from the score being hacked and replaced. They don't need to be re-done, but rather not being moved around as much by the editors. If you carefully go through a movie with a composer (especially one like John Williams) to discuss what you, as a director, want from the score, only to re-edit it and move it around, is just showing great disrespect. Bu hey, it's George's vision, and his alone, right?

I hope that that Lowry statement is true, so we, the fans of the original trilogy, can finally be happy.

Lowry's done good work in the past. I honestly believe that the '04 boxset was a product of not enough time...pushed by the marketing people at Lucasfilm.

I'll be stunned if the same mistakes show up on this Blu Ray set. If the rumors are true, Lucas has been working on this set for at least 5 years. There really shouldn't be any technical mistakes this time around.

KubrickFan,

Only Episode II was the one that got chopped to death, in terms of score. That has a lot to do with Lucas changing his mind on the edit of the film in the last few months of the post process and adding that Droid Factory sequence at the very, very last minute.

Episode I and Episode III's scores are not choppy in the slightest.

Yes that's true. Great disrespect! However, if you speak to Maestro Williams about the subject, like I have, I assure you that he doesn't think that way. He's a very humble and easygoing man. He informed me that he composed each score to fit respectively with each theme of the PT, rather than with the OT he composed each piece to correspond specifically to each scene. He still used the same methods, but there are a few pieces that were sort of considered, and I tread carefully in saying this, "ambiguous" or in my terms - able to be used freely for a certain theme. Such is the case for the "Love Theme" in AotC.

I don't think it was George's intention to chop up Williams' score during the editing process out of disrespect to the man.

It's called the filmmaking process. Things get change, switched, edited around, replace, etc...until the filmmaker feels he's found the right balance while in post production.

Again, it only happened in Episode II, where it's seriously noticeable. I don't think you can make that same criticism with the other two episodes...

They both feel very organic to the film.

Yea I know. To be honest, and I don't mean this rudely or disrespectfully because I admire your dedication, but I just sorta grew out of it. When I was a youngster - elem. to middle school - I collected out of admiration to the series rather than for value unlike most. I played with them and everything. I still had a ton though. My parents just cleaned out the storage and I need to go get them. I'm sure I have quite a few that have some great resale value.

Yeah, I kinda grew away from collecting the figures. Especially after Episode III.

E3 really kinda left me depressed on some levels. The fall of Anakin and slaughter of the Jedi moved me that much.

I believe I have every figure/vehicle from 1995 to 2000 or whatever, and a few of the first generation, like Bobba Fett and some Ewoks.

I can't wait until these arrive in Sept. Pre-ordered on amazon.

Since there have been a lot of posts about which are the best SW movies, here is my take.
I think it's easier to rate them in 2 sets, the OT and the PT.

For the OT,
1. ESB
2. Jedi
3. ANH

For PT
1. Sith
2. Clones
3. Menace

I love them all, though I understand why some have issues with the PT. But I just "ignore" those issues, and enjoy the movies for what they are. I see them as movies for boys around 10-12 years old (maybe Sith is geared at 13-14 year old boys). So I won't compare them to LOTR's - I just let them be Star Wars (some cool stuff and some ridiculous stuff).

That's my take.

Basically either say you love the prequel trilogy or don't post about it, I've found. In yours and my case, I'd say the latter is more appropriate and true.
You have got it, brother!

No, seriously. We can discuss everything on an intelligent level, but it's always the same stuff, so what's the point?

We obviously have different tastes, and that's fine.

Constructive discussions are more than welcome in the Star Wars discussion thread.

First of all: ROTJ before ANH? How come?

Secondly: How is LOTR more mature than SW??

I can't wait to hear your reasoning.

This is not the iconic Darth Vader we came to love from the OT. I just think his story should have focused more on his gradual descent from being 'a good friend' to Obi Wan (not somebody that talks behind his back and second guesses him constantly RIGHT OFF THE BAT) to the arch nemesis we know from the OT.
Many people have said the same as you have, but that's exactly the kind of kid who would grow up to be evil - very intelligent, but very egotistical and paranoid. Most kids mature out of that stage of thinking that they're smarter than their parents (in this case Obi-Wan), but some don't.

It's like the old Mark Twain line (and I'm paraphrasing), "When I was 18, I thought my father was an idiot, but by the time I was 25, I was surprised at how much the old man had learned in the past 7 years."

It would be great if a psychologist or psychiatrist could be found who had never seen Star Wars and was unfamiliar with the plot and could analyze Anakin from just the first two movies and predict what would happen to him. Very intelligent, told he's special but held back as a child in slavery; loving, doting mother, but no father figure until the Jedi come along; Jedi training probably took away his childhood, etc. You know what that sounds like? The raising of a young Hollywood starlet who turns to substance abuse and bad behavior, fires the manager who brought her to stardom (Obi-Wan), thereby disappointing the owner of the management agency (Yoda) and takes on a new manager who is actually a member of the Mafia (Palpatine) who only wants to rip her off. Then she enters politics.

But I do agree that it should have been more of a gradual descent into what was essentially "madness".

Indeed. LOTR is pretty silly all around. Gollum for instance was a much more annoying character than Jar Jar.
