I wonder if Georgie bought TFA and RO on BD and made a fan edit of each with bad CGI added?

Wouldn't need to, both of those movies are already bad enough

Jedi Rocks is the worst thing anyone has ever done.

Jedi Rocks is an especially bad change for me because I actually loved the Max Reboot band as a kid and always played their little music sections over and over. That change just destroys the nostalgia and kid memories of that section for me. Similar thing with Bobba Fett's voice, which I always loved and mimicked, now gone into the wind.

STAR WARS: THE FINAL CUT
I wouldn't put that past Lucas. I really wouldn't.

Nor would I put it past some of the fans to endorse it and criticise Disney for not having the vision to do something like it.

There are only two additional scenes I like from the SE's :

1) The Wampa roaring in pain after it's amputation by lightsaber.

2) The Slave-1 reveal, as it shadows the Falcon - even if it is a little too close.

Most of the 'improvements' range from unnecessary to the bizarre (R2-D2 and that rock).

The only scene I liked from the SE was Luke being reunited with Biggs before the Death Star Battle. Gives Luke's reaction to his death a little more meaning.
Also the restoration of Threepio's tractor beam line, and "Close the Blast Doors".

Other than that the aged CGI effects from the 90s don't do well

Fixing the Wampa arm was the only thing "needed" besides maybe making the lightsabers uniform, which they still screwed up.

I forgot about the Biggs hanger scene. It's a good addition - original 1976 footage too, apart from the added silhouette walking past.

The worst changes for me would be in no specific order the rocks blocking R2 (stupid and unnecessary), the Jabba scene in ANH (its repititive of the Greedo scene and the CGI is bad), Greedo shooting first (do I need to elaborate??), removing Vader’s ‘Bring my shuttle’ and showing Vader return to the Star Destroyer (not necessary and it removes a classic Vader line), Jedi Rocks (how Lucas approved this is beyond me plus the old song was way catchier), and Vader’s ‘Nooo’.

Hayden at the end of Jedi is close but there are some, and I’m putting a lot of emphasis on some, elements to why that makes sense although I still mostly feel it was not necessary. Everything else I can sorta live with mostly but given the choice I’d rather have the originals. The original Wampa scene IMO was more suspenseful and better paced, extending Mos Eisley and Cloud City was nice but not totally necessary, the Sarlaac has problems IMO in both versions but I think that CGI beak is terrible, list goes on. But in the end it’s not so much I have to live with those changes that’s the problem it’s the lack of choice to see it as I prefer. I’ll happily accept the SEs as the default versions of the movies if a future set included the originals with the SEs.

The 2004 versions without Han/Greedo and Jedi Rocks would be fine for me personally, but again, it's best if they just go all the way back and revert all three to their original forms, warts and all.

I watched the original trilogy with someone who had never seen them, so a lot of those changes that annoy those of us who grew up with these, don't really register -- except for that Jabba sequence in ANH and Jedi Rocks. The CGI is so bad and different from everything around them that it's noticeable (in a very bad way).

Maybe they're just waiting to finish the new trilogy. For the 40th, they should have given us the ultimate box set, for each movie - disc 1 unaltered theatrical movie, disc 2 special edition cuts and disc 3 whatever Lucas wants to call the final cut. Put it in a big box like Halloween's 15 disc set. Charge an obscene amount for said box so Mickey can build more parks. Everybody's happy.

You know what the original Star Wars movie special edition changes should have been? Putting droids in the back of the Y-Wings and any other ship that needed them and putting the blue back onto R2-D2 during the Battle of Yavin. The special edition change of coloring Vader's lightsaber right before the door closes on him right after he kills Obi-Wan is actually a welcome change. It's actually more like an enhancement. All of these changes that I just mentioned would be enhancements really.

Jedi Rocks is the only one that bothers me. The rest I either like(some of the 1997 additions to the final battle in ANH) or don’t have an issue with. I’d like both versions to be available on blu, though. The dated 2006 DVDs I have of the unaltered versions are letterboxed and ugly.

Lucas deserves all the extreme criticism he’s gotten for not releasing the original versions. To quote Geoff D, he’s a colossal plaid-shirted dick. I don’t care about his desire to make CGI versions of the films but withholding the originals is indeed a colossal dick move. He knew beforehand he would get a huge amount of criticism that would never end and he knew millions of people would rather have the original versions, and he refused anyway. There’s isn’t a single good reason for not releasing them. He wants everyone to forget about them and eventually as more time goes by no one will know they even existed. Or if they do, they’ll think of the originals as rough drafts, which is what he has called them. That is a disgusting attitude. There is no defending that.

Agreed! (Literally written as I'm printing out new art for my Silver Screen Edition of the 1977 original, and my Despecialized Editions of ESB and ROTJ. They've been sitting on my shelf without proper art for far too long.)

I won’t be buying any future release of the films unless the original theatrical versions of the OT are included - completely restored.

Not to mention the fact that Georgie boy ripped off Akira Kurosawa when he made Star Wars.

I need to watch the Silver Screen Edition! I skimmed through it and like how filmic it looks. It’s amazing that it’s an actual film print.
