Yeah. I really want the unaltered Str Wars movies I saw in the theater when I was a very little kid.

Also, once you use the word 'millennials,' you're officially out of touch.

Anytime anyone generalises whole generations or needs to group people that way, instantly loses the argument for me.

They don’t own the home video rights until May 2020 (and for Star Wars itself Fox owns them in perpetuity). Unless Disney buys Fox, there may be too many barriers to this happening before then.

Millennials don't notice the changes when watching the OT because the picture is so small on their phone that they can't see anything.

I wonder how long 'millennial' is going to last as the term for 'today's kids'. There are millennials nearing their 40s now.

It's not even about any legal or technical barriers, for if LFL wanted to release the restored OT tomorrow then Fox would oblige them as they're contracted to do, all they're doing is distributing on behalf of LFL. But, as some folks have surmised, Disney don't want to give Fox one more cent than is necessary so while they're happy to let the current Blu-rays and DVDs remain in print they're not going to go bananas with an OT celebration that would have to go through Fox, despite this being SW's 40th anniversary.

In the school district where I teach, we've been using the term "iGeneration" more and more often for today's batch of kids.

Eh, others just have preferences. Don’t get me wrong, I disagree with them, but the issue isn’t the Special Editions, it’s the lack access to the original cuts. Let’s not conflate our dislike of the Special Editions with the people who may enjoy them.

Maybe you should look up the Revisited versions that are being made. Highly recommended!

I’ve read about them and saw some samples awhile ago. I have no interest in a fan version that tries to improve the original versions by having a faster light saber duel between Obi-Wan and Darth Vader, etc.

That's a bingo. If I must watch a fan edit that turns the movies into some bastardised atrocity then I'll watch the official SEs, thankyouverymuch. I literally lol'd during the moments in Revisited when matey puts like a dozen TIE fighters barrelling across the screen just by cloning the one shot over and over. Revisited is trash.

Very true. I’m not a big fan of the SEs but I’d be much more acceptable to their existence if the originals were included with them.

I hope when/if the original versions are released that they take over as the main versions in the public consciousness again, and the special editions will be regarded as a somewhat interesting but awkward artifact.

I've just found a 1080p SE version which I downloaded a while ago and it seems to be a colour corrected version of the 2004 HD transfer before any of the further 2011 Blu-ray changes were made (so no Artoo Rocks, thank ****) and it's got audio that keeps Ben's original beastly cry in the canyon when he scares off the sand people. Homebrew aficionadoes will know more about what version this is than I, but I'm loving it anyway.

I just watched a few more of the Revisited clips. What was the purpose of this project? An attempt to make correct special editions? I just don’t see the point. There’s nothing really to correct. Maybe removing matte lines and similar things is fine, but cloning TIE fighters, speeding up light saber duels, adding a view of psychedelic blue flames from the cockpit in the Millennium Falcon... I just don’t see the point.

Yeah, while I like the new explosions of Alderaan and the two Death Stars, I don't feel like anyone was clamoring for more changes to the Star Wars trilogy.
On a technical level, though, the work that was done is highly impressive, and if people like it, who am I to judge?

Other than Jackie Chan, how many 50/60 year old men that have been weathered by the life they live, jump and flip around when fighting?

Well, I once saw this little 874 year-old green dude do exactly that...

I just received this item (Complete Saga) today in fact. I purchased it during the Amz.ca "Black Friday" sale.
Unfortunately, it was shipped in one of those flimsy and thin bubble mailers Amazon is notorious for and it arrived with the internal leaves retaining spindle completely shattered and useless. Fortunately, the discs stayed in place and are unscathed.
I was considering writing Amazon and requesting a new mult-leaf amaray case from them. Would that be a waste of effort and/or are there better cases on the market to consider? Mind, any different case would need to fit inside the set-box. Just not sure if Amazon could help.
There are x4 double sided leaves plus disc retainer hubs on inside amaray covers.

If you do write to Amazon, most likely they will just replace your copy with a new copy. I doubt they would send out an empty Amaray case to you.
