There’s two listing for the Complete Saga on bestbuy.com and they both have the Darth Vader cover. One of them says it was released in 2011 and the other says 2015. Doesn’t the 2011 one have the young Anakin/Luke cover? I’d like to get the one on that says it was released in 2011 because it’s cheaper, but not if it’s the older cover because I don’t like the case in that set. Do stores like Best Buy still carry the older release?

Should I include R1 in my pre-TLJ series rewatch?

The fact that I ignored TCW and there's a zillion more spinoffs coming makes me inclined not to.

Absolutely. I've already finished Rebels and Clone Wars, saving the heaviest of hitters for late this week. I'm doing a marathon starting very early Thursday evening which should last approximately 18 hours.

In order:

The Phantom Menace
Attack of the Clones
Revenge of the Sith
Rogue One
A New Hope
The Empire Strikes Back
Return of the Jedi
The Force Awakens

Hard to not include Rogue One in there. It's difficult for me to even consider it a side story. It doesn't really parallel anything within that canon, and it not only bumps into A New Hope but blends right into it for a few minutes prior to the closing credits. And it's an outstanding movie.

I've spent the weekend watching the movies. I've got Return of the Jedi and Force awakens left. Thursday, I'll rewatch a couple before heading to the theater.

I was doing some online reading about the original theatrical releases and while it doesn't appear likely for some time, if ever, someone managed to cobble together what is being called the "Despecialized" editions of 4,5, and 6.

As much as I'd love to see the unaltered versions, I didn't download them. I thought the process of how much work into it was interesting. There's even a website devoted. Funny enough, Lucas Films hasn't even touched them over copyright issues.

Harmy's despecialized versions are spectacular and well worth the look.

You know, I never have seen the bonus discs available separately for such a low cost. Thanks!
These are perfect to accompany my despecialized editions.

I'm pretty sure he skirted the copyright issue by putting disclaimers all over the damn thing stating that the films aren't to be distributed for monetary gain of any kind and that you shouldn't download it if you don't already own the official release of the trilogy.

Personally, I've been rewatching all the films in release order (except TCW, which is an unwatchable film and I much prefer the 2003 microseries), and even if it doesn't benefit the narrative at all, I would still suggest watching Rogue One again. It feels like a nice interlude between The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi.

Default Star Wars 4K

I have never seen any of the Star Wars films. I was thinking about buying them in some form or fashion. However I was thinking that they will bring them all to 4K at some point. What are your thoughts and do you think these films will be released in 4K? Thanks

You could have just posted this in the star wars thread. But anyways, of course it will get released in 4K. My guess is we'll get another complete Box set after Star Wars 9. And that will most likely be a 4K set. Along with individual 4K releases as well.

yes, I think for sure they will be released sometime soon hopefully....

and maybe if you hadn't watched FRIDAY THE 13TH PART 2 20,000 times you would have had the time to see some of these classics!!

Ok I think I will probably wait then.

Curious if the Box set from 2015 has a newer picture transfer then the 2011 box set?

Saw some new re-releases of the box sets tonight at Walmart. There was a new version of the prequel trilogy, which previously has Yoda on the front. Now it has a different picture of Yoda and the original trilogy, which previously had Vader on the front, now has a Stormtrooper on the front. There was also a set of all 6 that has Vader with some technical backdrop to it. It said it came with an exclusive bonus disc about Forces of Destiny. None of the sets come with digital copies.

I wish that Disney or Fox would release that 3D EP1. I'd like to see how that turned out.

All those are the same as the previous releases. They just have an extra slip case. So you're still getting the original packaging and original slip case, just with another slip case over them. And the Forces of Destiny disc is a 22-minute DVD with some various Forces of Destiny episodes inside a paper sleeve.

The 2015 set is identical to the 2011 set in terms of content. It's just got different packaging.

First of all, whenever I watch this all-time classic flick on its own, I always choose the "SILVER SCREEN" edition of the original 1977 cut... however, I confess to enjoying the "Lucas final edition" when watching the Episodes, like today. But when I do watch the "Lucas final edition"... like today... I'm always a little shocked at how problematic the blu-ray is: frozen grain, high contrast, low mids... and those skin tones!!!!

Maybe it's just 'cuz I've spent the last eight days in a post house fine-tuning and obsessing over the color grade for my next feature as DP... but the magenta/violet skin tones of this blu-ray are abysmal and distracting. I've had to re-grade it in my projector by pumping up green and yellow to compensate, and even that doesn't do the trick in all scenes. So much magenta. I honestly can't believe they released this; the colorist must never work again.

Can't wait 'til the 4k restoration sees the light of day, even if it is this compromised "final" version with the terrible Mos Eisley crap and the silly R2-D2 rock. At least the QUALITY should do justice to the classic stature of this movie.
I watched A New Hope (BD) the other night and every time I watch this (maybe once a year) it looks worse and worse to me. What I noticed the other night was just how much frozen grain/frozen squiggly artifacts and other bothersome issues like this exist not just in the Tatooine scenes, but throughout the entire movie actually. It's really kind of a mess even before we get into the color issues you mention. My new projector has the finest optics of any unit I've ever owned and it probably shows these things to me even more so than prior units. However, surely watching many remastered BDs and UHD BDs since 2011 has raised my standards in viewing.
