That's what I'm hoping for too. Plus in a way, this deal will also mean Fox will own Star Wars too which is what I've always wanted.

What I like to also happen with this deal is that Disney grants Fox co-distribution with any future SW films and shows.

Disney needs to release the unaltered OT to restore balance to the Force.

Not gonna happen. Ever. Well, for new TV stuff they may well let DisneyFox have some of it but for the films? Noooooope.

Didn't take a close look but I think they're just some sort of holiday J-cards, not red cases.

from Bottleneck Gallery:

Quote:
We’ve been teasing a new Star Wars print over the past month, and, in collaboration with Acme Archives and Lucasfilm, we’re ecstatic to finally be able to reveal Matt Taylor’s print for the Star Wars: A New Hope!

Matt’s compositions and coloring are always sublime, and his take on Star Wars truly gives off a classic feel, while uniquely emphasizing aspects of the classic story, such as Darth Vader’s looming presence and grip on all of these characters’ lives.

Here’s what Matt had to say about his print: “Star Wars has a very special place in my heart - it’s the first movie i remember seeing in the cinema, and the toys were a mainstay of my childhood. Going to see Star Wars movies on opening day with my dad has become a staple of my moviegoing life, so when asked if I wanted to take a swing at a New Hope poster, I was never going to say no. I tried to go as classic as I could in terms of composition and style and my determination to make this look as good as I could...I’m really happy with how it turned out, and I hope people out there feel the same. I suppose I’d better get thinking about Empire now…”

Matt’s print, alongside a limited variant, will be available as a timed-edition starting today @ 12PM ET through Sunday (12/10) @ 11:59PM ET on our homepage!

I saw that email and did a double take on the preorder day, which is Sunday. Usually BN sends out the email a few hours before release.
I will try for the limited print. That will sell out in a few minutes.

Watching through the Saga in preparation for LAST JEDI, and just finished A NEW HOPE. Man, that's a rough one for me, in terms of quality. First of all, whenever I watch this all-time classic flick on its own, I always choose the "SILVER SCREEN" edition of the original 1977 cut... however, I confess to enjoying the "Lucas final edition" when watching the Episodes, like today. But when I do watch the "Lucas final edition"... like today... I'm always a little shocked at how problematic the blu-ray is: frozen grain, high contrast, low mids... and those skin tones!!!!

Maybe it's just 'cuz I've spent the last eight days in a post house fine-tuning and obsessing over the color grade for my next feature as DP... but the magenta/violet skin tones of this blu-ray are abysmal and distracting. I've had to re-grade it in my projector by pumping up green and yellow to compensate, and even that doesn't do the trick in all scenes. So much magenta. I honestly can't believe they released this; the colorist must never work again.

Can't wait 'til the 4k restoration sees the light of day, even if it is this compromised "final" version with the terrible Mos Eisley crap and the silly R2-D2 rock. At least the QUALITY should do justice to the classic stature of this movie.

Doing the bI annual viewing of SW this weekend. Starting with ep1 to 6. Maybe ep7 but it's the wife's call. Neither of us like it all that much. Next weekend is the middle earth EEs.

I’m trying to decide if I should ask for the Complete Saga for Christmas so that I don’t have to feel guilty watching the Despecialized Editions. What’s stronger, my guilt watching them or my dislike of the changes to the OT? Hmmm...

I think of it as the most affordable video release for the three vintage documentaries that happens to include a bunch of extras.

It's a DVD era master where magenta pushes were a big deal. They were what 'teal' is today when it comes to home video transfers.

At originaltrilogy.com a scan of a special edition print is in progress. One observation was that the CGI stands out much more than on DVD. So they tried to “mask“ the cgi inserts by tweaking the color timing as much as necessary.

It's worth it for the deleted scenes from the original trilogy. Something I thought I'd never see. I'm still on the fence myself on whether to get it or not.

Agreed on all counts. This is why I've been railing against the Blu-rays for a while now and don't even own them any more, they were creaking a bit at the time (hot contrast, weird weird weird colour, frozen grain, all things that were duly noted) but against all this other properly restored goodness that's out there they look horribly outdated now.

Which site has the Complete Saga for the cheapest price? And is there a way to make sure you get the one with Darth Vader on the cover? I much prefer the case in that set.
