Last time I watched REVENGE OF THE SITH, I realized one simple thing that would’ve improved it vastly, for me. And I hate doing this, ‘cuz I friggin’ HATE everyone re-writing things they don’t like on the internet like the proverbial Monday morning quarterback… but I'm going to be a full-blown hypocrite and do it this one time…. :-)

One of my biggest complaints is that Padme goes from a badass warrior in PHANTOM MENACE and ATTACK OF THE CLONES to a meek, crying housewife in SITH. Ugh!!!! She was so awesome and pro-active in the other movies. All they had to do was keep in ONE of the deleted scenes where she’s helping to start the Rebellion with Mon Mothma… and then… hear me out… imagine if at the end of SITH, when Anakin first sees that Obi-Wan has arrived on Mustafar with Padme… imagine if Padme (who now knows how evil Anakin has become), actually PULLS A BLASTER ON ANAKIN when he’s momentarily distracted by Obi-Wan. That would cause Anakin to suddenly turn and Force choke her, instead of having Anakin randomly lash out at the one person he wanted to save. SOOOOO much better, right??

And of course you have to… HAVE TO… remove the line from the medical droids about “there’s nothing wrong with her, but we’re losing her”. She has to… ABSOLUTELY HAS TO…. die of obvious complications from her Force choke injuries, after giving birth to the twins.

That would improve it so much for me; Padme should’ve gone down swinging.

But enough “should haves”; I know, I know….. I hate them too. I apologize, but needed to get it out of my system.

I mean, she's pregnant with twins. I dunno how active she could really be compared to how she was in the first two movies. (But I still think it's funny that with all the technology in these movies, Anakin and Padme didn't know she was having twins.)

Yeah, but my little suggestions are still pro-active without being active. I wince my way through her whole SITH performance (except for the ONE SCENE where she's telling Anakin they may be fighting on the wrong side); to me, seeing her reduced to a "nothing character" is more painful than the romance scenes in CLONES... and that's prettttty bad.

Whilst embracing, she should’ve tried knifing him. She ends up getting stuck with her own blade (dying at the medical centre after giving birth).

That would’ve been a great end for the character, and also in line with Anakin’s paranoia about people betraying him.

You guys are missing the point. Had Padme' attacked him, he wouldn't still love her completely. His complete love for her is what makes him turn back to the Light. Luke is a part if Padme'. By saving Luke, he saved part of Padme' as well.

Hmm. I see what you're saying, but I still think she could've attack him at the moment of realization that he'd become a monster, and he would still love the Padme he'd lost... if that makes sense. I just needed one moment of pro-active Padme bad-assedness, like she'd shown in PHANTOM MENACE and at the Battle of Geonosis.

They should have kept all her deleted scenes in. She was an active founding member of the rebellion.

I've said, since '95 that Padme'was the weakest part of Revenge.
Another thing that didn't work was the supposed brotherhood between Anakin and Obi-Wan. We never really saw it.

I pretend she did die of complications from the choke. The movie is seriously so much worse without that being the case.

Even in a galaxy far, far away they might not have wanted to know the sex of the baby, and as they had to keep it secret anyway I guess it's not too much of a stretch to assume that she never went to any appointments with her OB-GYN.

Related to this there's a wonderful moment in the script which never made it into the final cut of the film, the two of them are discussing what they think the baby's going to be and Anakin feels her belly and says it's definitely a boy while Padme says nah, it's a girl. Mightn't seem like much on paper but when you think of the Jedi twins it's a cute scene, yet it also has implications for later on in the saga when Vader can't detect that Leia is even a force sensitive, as well as not being aware that his daughter existed in the first place. It's typical, really: one of the few things that Lucas lined up pretty well between the PT and the OT and he goes and cuts it out. As much as I've said that Lucas got his groove back when he made Sith, he still made some spectacularly bone-headed decisions in the edit.

On a serious note though, I totally agree. If you do a search for "Padme wet blanket" on here then you'll find me lamenting much the same thing as you.

In an effort to talk myself out of picking up Solo and The Last Jedi, I've been thinking (too much) about what kind of box set Disney/Lucasfilm could put out next year with Episode IX's home release. It seems likely they'll release the original six movies arund that time too, so assuming that, I've decided on four possibilities.

1. The Ultimate Package- Episodes I- IX, Rogue One and Solo. New suppliments from the Disney era films, including commentaries and deleted scenes.

2. The Disney Package- Episodes VII- IX, Rogue One, and Solo. The same new suppliments from option 1.
2a. Episodes I- VI are released as trilogy sets or individually.

3. The Sequel Trilogy- Episodes VII- IX. New suppliments, special packaging similar to the TFA 3D Collector's Edition.
3a. Rogue One and Solo get new slipcovers.

4. No box set, because Disney doesn't like box sets. Episodes I- VI get individual releases, new slips for the Disney era films to match.

I have whooping cough so I have been home bound for the last few weeks so I put this on and watched all of it over the last few days.

Maybe it is my old age but while I still don't think the Prequels are in the same league as the Original Trilogy my hatred of them has softened. The same goes for my feelings on some of the changes made to the OT. Vader yelling out "NOOOOOOOOOOOO" in RotJ will always be a crime against cinema and humanity though.

Stuff like that is what bugs me. Like, I certainly don’t fault Lucas for adding things in that he couldn’t due to the technological limits at the time (especially after reading the Making of Star Wars).

But stuff like the Vader “Nooo!” in Return of the Jedi is silly because that obviously could have been done back in the ‘80s.

As for a potential box set? I’m hoping for Episodes 1-9 on 4K and ALL previous supplemental material from EVERY previous release included. Rogue One and Solo don’t need to be included, but I certainly wouldn’t mind

The song at the beginning of Return of the Jedi always annoys me more than any other changes.

I'm of the opinion that Padme's death is not from complications, but rather directly due to Palpatine's/Darth Sidious's actions. Recall this scene from RotS:

In Palpatine's seducing Anakin to the Dark Side, Palpatine tells a half-truth about his own Sith master -- Darth Plagueis (at least it seems that Plagueis was Palpatines master based on the scene).

Later in the movie, Padme does not die from complications caused by Anakin's Force choke or complications of child birth. If it was ordinary complications the child birthing droids would not have been at a loss, Palpatine/Darth Sidious used the Dark Side of the Force and forcibly took Padme's life force to use for one more birth -- to preserve Anakin's life so that he might be fully become Darth Vader. Which leaves a question about Vader's cry of "NO!" -- was it simply from hearing about Padme's death, or is that the instant he realizes that Palpatine stole Padme's life to save Darth Vader's?

I think most of your options there are probably out, because it's not 2005 anymore and deluxe sets with new features are very rare from the studios. Disney has mostly been doing individual releases on 4k so far (Avengers for example) so I kind of expect Force Awakens or Rogue One (or both) on 4k when Episode IX comes out, but no new features or anything. Just new 4k movie discs, like Avengers got.

If the old trilogies come out we might get a box set for those though, maybe.

I never actually approached it that way before but now that I hear it actually makes a lot of sense. Not to mention it even ties in more heavily when Vader kills Palpatine in ROTJ. He then fully realizes through seeing him try to kill Luke that Palpatine killed Padme and history was about to repeat itself. Now that I look at it that way my hatred for Vader’s added ‘Noooo’ in ROTJ has slightly decreased granted by a very tiny margin.

If Palpatine was killing Padme'from afar via the Force, he would have felt the presence of Luke and Leia.
No, Anakin accidentally killed her. And Padme'did die of a combination of the force choke and lack of will to live. As we all say a few years ago when Carrie and her mother died.

Or, we could go with my old username on StarWarz.com website from 1999, Darth Kenobi.
Lol, Obi-Wan killed her cause he secretly loved her and couldn't bare seeing her with anyone, let alone his supposed brother. :P

I'm not a fan of the "Palpatine killed Padme" theory -- it lets Anakin off the hook, and therefore weakens the tragic fall. No, Anakin killed her physically, spiritually, emotionally, and he knows it.

"It's too late for me, son."
