Actually, I get a huge kick out of the battle droid who says "you're welcome" sarcastically after Grievous grabs the captured lightsaber out of his hand.
Yeah that moment was great. One reason for the changes could also be that Lucas wanted to add humor because the story was dark. Other droids had more personality too:

I’m thinking of downsizing my silver DVD boxset, the first one from way back. I know the fourth disc has exclusive extras but I can buy a loose copy of that used. I need to know if the commentaries on the movie discs are the same ones on the 9 disc Blu-ray set (with Anakin/Luke on Tatooine on the cover)?
Thanks

Yes. The Blu-ray includes the 2004 audio commentaries from the DVDs and new archival commentaries.

I'm not sure how many others like myself have held out all this time hoping and praying for the original trilogy to be released unmolested on Blu-ray, but I'm noticing cracks in my foundation.

I might have to finally spring for this set during the next big sale.

I bought it used, so Lucas didn’t get my money directly. A small form of protest.

Luke blowing up the sail barge was a bit drastic no? Definitely up there with his dad murdering all the sandpeople. I mean, alot of creatures onboard were just chillin', and with Jabba dead, most of them were probably harmless. Alot of them were most likely slaves, and would have had freedom to live their best lives.

I dunno about that. Leia was the only slave I saw. Everybody else was having a damn-good time! They all seemed like friends & allies of Jabba, and as (spoiler for 27-year-old Growing Up in the Hood movie)
[Show spoiler]Sharif found out in "Menace II Society"
, you can indeed die even if you ain't doin' the dirty work your boys partake in. Artoo was serving drinks, so it was probably only droids doing service-type work onboard, and the only true sentient droids we've seen are Threepio & Artoo; every other droid just seems to be going by their programming. So no big loss there either. Nowhere near as bad as Anakin and the Tusken Raiders! Everyone on that barge was cheering & laughing for death; no (innocent) women or children were there. Way, way, way different!

My original reason for stopping by is that Star Wars Day in 4K is set for November 21st, making this our 15th year of watching the saga from I-VI in a single day! I still remember taking Tuesday & Wednesday (November 1st & 2nd '05) off since I figured this might go into the wee hours of Wednesday morning and I'd probably be exhausted after pulling a 12-hour marathon as well as doing all of the meals throughout the day myself (I was right by the way); the midnight of Tuesday morning I got "Episode III" (the last time I did that was for "LotR: RotK- Extended Edition"); 9 hours later, Corey & I started "Episode I". At our 5 year mark, we built risers and began inviting friends over to enjoy the awesomeness that we'd experienced for the last 4! The Wife had me take the risers down a few weeks ago because the wood was getting worn, so I found a small futon that actually sits lower than my couch (which I raised a few more inches just to make sure the futon would be as low as possible), so seating will still be available for the few we invited during this blasted Pandemic. I can't wait to see their faces when Greedo says "Maclunkey!" out of nowhere; it threw me off like a mug, and I'm sure to see some slacked jaws just like I did with Vader's "No... NooOoOo!" in RotJ with the BD set!

Yeah but explosions are cool, should have left Threepio to rot in the sand, but then they'd be ewok fodder on Endor

It’s kind of ironic that Lucas referred to the unaltered original trilogy as rough drafts when it’s the special editions that are more like rough drafts since they contain sequences with CGI and animation that were used as a testing ground to sell the idea of the special editions, which were improved upon for the prequels.

“...the special editions were a means of researching and testing what I was going to try to do on [The Phantom Menace].“ - Lucas

So true. The original trilogy went from being the absolute pinnacle of one type of effects technology to the friggin' stone age of another effects technology. Cinematic tragedy.

Watched Episode I on my new 4k UHD 65inch OLED (see sig) for the first time today, and boy would I love to see this getting a filmic transfer!!!!!!
The PQ is a mere 2.5/5 for me, as half the movie is truly hindered by DNR, sometimes ridiculous levels thereof. It's a crying shame, as at times, one gets to more or less see the potential it has, such as this shot:
TPM.jpg
Darn that 3D conversion to hell!!!!!
I guess George Lucas doesn't want his own movies to look good.
I would easily pay 100 Euros for a remaster.

Why can't we have the best possible transfers for the Star Wars Saga (I-VI)??
Such a shame.
The audio rocks at least.

I don't get it, These and a few other series should look flawless, but there is always something done to them that makes them feel like a half-assed attempt.
Instead of being done well, they just throw sh*t together and hope no one will notice.
Star Wars
Lord of the Rings
Back to the Future

Some of the biggest movies and they all, always, get sub-par video releases.

The OT is the same. Half-assed as hell. But still, the best they have ever looked on any home video format. I guess George doesn't like film grain, as he DNR'ed the hell out of the OT.

Actually, his attempts to improve those effects in the SEs have done nothing to make them any better.

I’m grateful every day for my Despecialized Edition.

I have only bought Episode III, IV, and Rogue One, as they are said to be the better of the bunch.

Too bad though.

I will be watching Episode II on BD tomorrow morning.
