That's kind of like saying that the way to survive an atomic bomb going off in your immediate vicinity is to duck under your desk with your hands over your head.

I've watched that film over 20 plus years and that's the first I've heard of that.
He isn't scarred. No one said he is scarred. longhornsgirl said:

"Then why is Luke not horribly scarred after being blasted with force lightning in ROTJ?"
(I added the emphasis there).

Here's the thing about Palpatine's appearance; in continuity with the films, there's a logic to it, if you ask me.

He gets horribly scarred in Revenge of the Sith, which are fresh wounds. Fast forward twenty plus years to Return of the Jedi, and those wounds aren't fresh anymore. They've aged with him.

It makes sense within the films.

Personally, I don't believe he was masking his true face in the Prequels. I think he literally was injured in the fight with Windu.

I'm sure that some of this could be attributed to possible changes in make up technology over the years, and the fact that the actor, himself, was much older (and little 'fuller' in the face) at the time ROTS was being filmed.

But still, in ROTJ, he just looked like an old, pale man for the most part. In ROTS, they made his eye color change, and there seemed to be these extra wrinkles/waves in his skin to give is sort of a 'melted' appearance. Those same wrinkles, at least to that extent, don't seem to exist in ROTJ, and neither did the red eyes.

It's not a big deal at the end of the day, I suppose, but it's just another example of how some of Lucas's last minute rethinking of things often raises more questions than it answers, and doesn't 'flow' as well as he intends it to.

Frankly I felt that aside from the difference in skin tone, in the PT he resembled his appearance in ROTJ more when they showed him in his Sidious robes before he had the accident. The added make up after the accident in ROTS just made him look more bloated than anything to me.
He has the same or similar looking eyes / contact lens in ROTJ as ROTS

It always appeared to me that the force lightning changed his face, hence the sizzling sound and smoke...

If Sidious always looked like that (i.e., different than Palpatine), then there was no need for him to wear a hood that covered 92.5% of his face, since no one could've possibly said "hey, that guy is Palpatine!"

"It's only a flesh wound!"

I'll have to go look again, but if he is wearing similar lenses, the coloring doesn't stand out as starkly as it does in 'Sith'.

If the movies had any sense of keep true to each other though, Luke should've at least had some damage.

Being burned alive on Mustafar by the person who he thought of as a father figure.
Being placed in that armored life support system forever trapped within it.
Being slowly turned into a cyborg year by year to replace certain organs/parts.
Not being able to survive outside of the suit.

Killing innocent jedi cause he never let go of his anger and he blames them for everything that has happened to him.

AND YET

After all of this a man who has had so much anger in him so much hate can just as easily redeem himself through his son he was able to see that he did still after all the bad that has happened to him have good in him and that it took his own flesh and blood to point it out for him.

Vader never had anyone who loved/liked him in all those years being Palpatine's puppet yet all it took was the love of his son to bring him back to the good side and to redeem himself.

Either way you look at it Anakin/Vader was never truly 100% evil.

As for the prophecy of the one who will bring balance to the force, it was Anakin he got a little side tracked along the way but through his son he was able to bring balance by ridding the galaxy of the emperor.
Quite some tragedy. The poor boy most have been very traumatized!

"Knoll said there are no plans to add or fix visual effects on the movies. Over the years, Lucas's digital tweaks on the original trilogy pics have generated pushback from fans."

I still can´t imagine that Yoda won´t be turned to CG for this release... just as an example.
Well, while the highlighted sentence has me worried a bit, I still think that he was referring to the possible differences between the BD editions and the 3-D editions. I hope I am right here, because otherwise I'd really despise the UOT fans forever!!!!!

I am hoping for the final versions.

I've been electrocuted several times and I still don't look like the Emperor! Albeit not with Dark Side Force lightning. Also turning your leading man into a walnut isn't a great creative choice. He did smoke a lot though....

What I've wondered is what finished Vader off? Was it the Force lightning when he picked up Palpatine or was it the blast from the reactor shaft or a combination of the two?

Have Matt Stover write it. His book REVENGE OF THE SITH was sooooo much better than the movie version. Better character development, better dialogue, and more Palpatine/Sidious insight. Everyone should read the book version of SITH, it is so good.

Also, my next favorite SW book is Yoda: Dark Rendezvous. It is action-packed and very heart-warming. The story Whie and Scout, two padawans going on their first mission with their masters to find Count Dooku. Along for the ride is Yoda, traveling incognito. We learn a lot about Count Dooku and his childhood at the temple, and learn more about Yoda.

Luke took the lightning to his torso, did we ever see Luke with his shirt off after the fight with the emperor?

I liked it when we see Vader lifting up the emperor and seeing the lightning piercing through him and also seeing his skeletal features also the emperor's HOLY S**T look on his face.

Luke took lightning everywhere. Even inside his mouth/teeth!

Another reason I can't believe Palpatine's own lightning would hurt him.

Luke was stronger in the force therefore A) it didn't affect him as badly, or B) he immediately used the force to disguise his wounds!
