Check out this color comparsion (Theatical vs. 2004 DVD): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZWRs0ZD8ay4

One of the most interesting things about the original trilogy is how the fantastic was portrayed. It didn't feel fantastc. The films had a very soft, natural look. More importantly, they were shot in a way that didn't try to draw attention to the fantastic. They focused on the characters, and the fantasy world just so happened to be in the background. It gave the viewer the sense of depth. The sense that this world expanded beyond the four corners of the screen. (This is why I find the added shots in the Mos Eisley sequence so offensive. It totally focuses on the fantastic and puts the story on pause in order to say "Look at me! I am cool!")

The prequals are cartoony wonderlands. And I don't just mean because of all the CGI. The sharp, oversaturated look doesn't feel natural.

I don't understand this concept, but I have seen a number of people say similar things. How can the film you think is "best" not be your favorite?

The look of the prequels never bothered me, I actually think they look better than the original trilogy. Hope I'm not alone there.

Ah, the Boba-Fett winking into the camera bit in docking bay 94, really stands out among some of the other additions.

Strangely while I liked her as Leia I never found her all that hot if you will. She is cute but I never associated the work hot or sexy with her. I think Portman as a more regular beauty but it's only a personal choice mind you.

If it wasn't for the slave-bikini in Jedi I doubt there would even be a poll.

I'm also willing to bet Natalie will age much better than Carrie. She also doesn't coke/drug herself up half-to-death.

Nat will be 29 on Wednesday, this is Carrie at the same age (1985), you can see some of the wear and tear already...

You're not alone.
The PT is the OT with the technology and budget George wanted.
THAT cannot be disputed.

Softness hides a LOT of flaws. Just ask any aging actress.

Thank goodness Lucas was limited by technology and money on A New Hope. Otherwise, it would have sucked.

Think of all the filmmakers who have mentioned the look of Star Wars as being very influencial. Peter Jackson, James Cameron, Ridley Scott...the list goes on. That would not have happened if Lucas had been able to make the film he had in his head.

Darn, that's a tough choice...

But in the end, I pick Natalie!!!

For two reasons... first Natalie is only two years older than me and is still frekin hot... And Carrie is the same age as my mom!

And second, I like Natalie better as an actress!!!

Young Carrie was mouth-watering. Too bad she destroyed herself with all that drug abuse. =-(

The funny thing to me about the OT and the PT is at the time of their portrayals, Anakin and Padme are supposed to be older than their kids but Hamill and Fisher are both clearly older in IV-VI than Christensen and Portman are in III.

I know, not everything seems to work perfectly, but for the most part they blend together correctly!

i am going to have to agree with the mithrandir on this one. not even close as far as i am concerned. natalie is on another level in my mind. not only in looks, but with everything else she brings to the table...it only makes her that much more attractive.

I just think Padme had a better wardrobe and a better stylist than Fisher did, although I will admit they both looked quite odd most of the time. You'd think two people who spent most of their time in their respective films trying to hide or blend in wouldn't dress so extravagantly all the time.

I added to it as time went on. At first I think I made it right before epiosde I came out and just added the last 3 and put that tab on when it finished.

that is still one cool looking set of stuff.

My Star Wars collection has dwindled down to just a few movies, a couple of VHS releases, the SE Laser Disc, and the latest DVD release with the OT as bonus features. I bought Episodes I and II as they came out on VHS and then again on DVD, but I sold those when I sold my DVD box set of the OT back when I was in need of rent money. I have none of my collectibles left except a lightsaber toy I bought "for my nephew" that I keep at my house. Being poor sucks. All of a sudden I hate George Lucas for creating these movies and robbing me of my money all the damn time.

I don't understand this concept, but I have seen a number of people say similar things. How can the film you think is "best" not be your favorite?
I understand your point of view and respect it, but I also respectfully disagree, as I would not like the OT or the PT to be bland-looking films. Why not great characters and gorgeous vistas? What's wrong with that?

I don't think it's a look at me kind of attitude in the SW universe. It's just that the technology Lucas had on the PT helped him realize his worlds much better than ever before, and I am very grateful we got to see the backstory.

George is not showing off visual effects, as he himself stated that he just wants to get by. He never asks for the very best of ILM. He just wanted to tell his story the way he had it in his mind.

As I said, I see your angle, and hope that he's going to release the OT unaltered, so that you and the other purists can enjoy them.

EXACTLY!

My choice is Natalie Portman

I just stumbled across these wonderfully objective reviews of the Star Wars Saga:

http://www.the-reel-mccoy.com/movies/1999/SW1_TPM.html

while looking for pictures of Natalie in that stunning turquoise dress on Tatooine in AOTC!

The moment when she comes out of the homestead and they hug, and Anakin asks her to stay with them, and that he won't be long.

That's the sexiest woman ever put on film. (Well, I may be slightly exaggerating her, but who can blame me, right!? )

Who can post an image of that scene here!?!?!?
