Apparently LFL were so stung by the dismal sales of the UOT discs that they junked the (rumoured) 30th Anniversary set. And that poor sales performance has no doubt reinforced Lucas' opinion that people don't care for the UOT. He's conveniently ignoring the fact that they used reheated laserdisc masters AND required people to buy discs which they already had, but whatever.

As for my opinion, I always thought Greedo was going to shoot him at the table anyway, so the change didn't really affect my enjoyment of the film.

OK, how on Earth can you possibly have avoided watching those for six years? I remember going to my local video place, in Setember of 2004, waiting until midnight for the DVDs to be on sale. Thankfully, my cousin was willing to drive me, so we waited in line, I bought the set, we left...and then realized he'd locked his keys in the car. We were trapped out there, in the middle of the night, until 2:30 AM or so, when he finally got impatient and punched trough a small window, so he could reach in and grab the keys. (We'd called cops, at least one repair guy, nothin'.)
lol.I was that dedicated when I was 12,and watched it for the first time, and I have watched the movies a million times on VHS,but there comes a time when a movie is oversaturated. And I showed you I was kind of embarrased about it

But will watch the BD's -atleast Anew hope and Empire strikes back, but may just watch part of Return of the jedi since I don't like the Ewoks. There!I said it

I would be giddy as a school girl if we got Digibook releases at some point. Maybe for the yearly 3-D reissues.

Boy, you fanboys never give up. I think it's ridiculous to think that the UOT will get released. Can Lucas make it any clearer? How many times does it have to be said that (for better or worse), he considers the SEs to be the films.

If Lucas has been lying and the UOT's do actually still exist, the only chance they have for getting released is after his death, assuming that his studio gets sold to some conglomerate who will put out anything to make money.

Still excited about this release, though I'll wait to hear (informed) reviews about the set. Still great to wait for.

Its sort of ridiculous that you think it won't eventually get released. The Unaltered OT is batting a thousand in regards to being released on every popular format in home video... Just sayin... Sure it wasn't the best quality on DVD but it was still released. So, give it time grasshopper and it will eventually make its debut.

But really, this is a moot point. I think we can all agree that they should be released (even those whom aren't fans would think it would be a good idea to put it out eventually). But the fact is (as they currently stand) the UOT will not be in this set. So, lets stop with the naysaying and the fanboy whinning and just move on. Ya'll are just beating each other up.

FYI, it's 'moot'.

And only a Sith deals in absolutes. I certainly don't agree with that. I was against the DVD release of them.

Yeah, I'm rather encouraged when LFL doesn't release the original cuts. They said the THX cuts were the last release and sticking to their word is worth more to their cred than catering to disgruntled fanboys, who will never be happy (just as they weren't with the non-anamophic DVD 'bonus' ).

I still don't understand fans who are against releasing the UOT. I prefer the Special Editions, love the prequels for the most part, and even I don't see a problem with releasing the UOT. In fact, from a completist standpoint, I was hoping they would've been included in this set. I understand George Lucas' position why he doesn't want to release them, but the fans who genuinely hope that he doesn't release the UOT absolutely flabbergasts me. How would releasing the UOT diminish your enjoyment of the Special Editions? Since when is being inclusive a bad thing? The UOT haters who seek to censor its existence are just as bizarre to me as the prequel haters who obsess about the prequels. Star Wars fans are a strange, petty lot.

Well said indeed greg. I mean, liking the special editions better than the originals is really just a matter of taste and personal preference, but I can't comprehend anybody who insists that the original versions stay buried and suppressed just because the original creator (who may or may not have all his marbles anymore) wants it that way.
