Yes. I do have amazing patience. But, like I said, I don't really care all that much for Star Wars. I bought both Star Trek film collections the day they were released at full price though.

Crazy... we are reversed in thinking because I waited until I could get the ST collector's set on sale that worked out to about $5 per case. I will be buying the SW complete saga for the best release day street price I can find(Costco is usually a sweet place for big sets like these)

I only differentiate the OT from PT for purposes of basic identification. I love each film on an idividual basis & on it's own merits, regardless of which trilogy it's from. I prefer to look at all six films as the Star Wars saga. Phantom Menace & Return of the Jedi are at the bottom of my list though.

TPM I look at this way... Other than Jar-Jar, it wasn't horrible, but it wasn't great either. It was basically mediocre all the way through. While I can't say I really hate anything about it (other than one character), I also can't say I love anything about it.

This is how I see RotJ... It was horrible most of the way through. It was a bad version of The Muppets in Space. Characters were punked out and the best acting was from the original film's weakest link. Luckily, the film was saved by the entire Luke/Vader/Palpatine seqence aboard the second Death Star.

I go back & forth as to which is worse in my mind... 2/3 garbage with 1/3 pure greatness or 3/3 mediocrity? Either way, each trilogy has one film that I don't particularly like. To go a step further, each trilogy has one film that I don't like, one that I really, really like & one that I absolutely love. Here's my personal breakdown...

Absolutely love: Empire & Sith

Really, really like: A New Hope & Clones

Don't particularly like: Jedi & Phantom Menace

Each film has it's merits (and flaws).

I don't "hate" the prequels... my main complaint is how terribly they set up Anakin's downfall (which was the whole point).

They had 3 movies to do it, literally decades to plan it out... and they still did it all as a rush-job in the final film. It was awkward and unconvincing. I didn't grow to love Anakin as a character, I didn't believe in his relationship with Padme, and I didn't understand his quick decision to pledge loyalty to the Sith and slaughter children.

But I did get to watch ships take off and land. A lot.

Ultimately, the whole story sort of falls apart because the prequels did an awkward job of telling Anakin's story (the #1 thing they were supposed to do). Lucas didn't even seem to get serious about it until III.

I *do* like Episode I (a lot more than most, it appears). I thought it was a pretty solid film and would have worked even better had II and III been stronger and better constructed.

To me, the whole prequel situation would have been 1000x better if Lucas had just taken the first year "off" and layed out the structure, start-to-finish, of these films. What each one was meant to accomplish, what pieces of information each needed to get across, etc. I also think his last-minute decision to make Episode I take place a decade earlier (to show Anakin as a VERY young boy) didn't work out... it essentially makes 90% of the first film's plot irrelevant to the overall saga.

I understand George Lucas' position why he doesn't want to release them, but the fans who genuinely hope that he doesn't release the UOT absolutely flabbergasts me. How would releasing the UOT diminish your enjoyment of the Special Editions? Since when is being inclusive a bad thing? The UOT haters who seek to censor its existence are just as bizarre to me as the prequel haters who obsess about the prequels. Star Wars fans are a strange, petty lot.
I agree. It really doesn't make sense. It's kind of ironic when people get SO opposed to the extreme UOT fans that they, themselves become an equally bad, all-be-it opposite extreme.

Speaking of which (and I can't help but notice how the following response in no-way addressed the statement which it was in response to)...

Being that all the films are owned outright by Lucas, he has the complete right to make such a determination, regardless of what anyone else thinks. He released the LEs in 2006 to basically shut some folks up, but they bickered about it anyway. Truth be told, it would cost Lucas a fortune to "re-restore" the UOT, if that's even possible anymore. Some fans simply can't fathom - or outright refuse to believe - that the original prints may not exist anymore, in enough of a state to repair them without making things worse. I and many others have said this before: it is ultimately Lucas' decision, not ours, and complaining about it here will not change anything...period. Folks can either contact Lucasfilm with their views, or shut up, because that's the only way anything will be accomplished. To quote Tarkin, "this bickering is pointless".

TPM is awesome, Jar Jar is the only negative. TPM was doomed from the beginning, it was 30 years in the making it would never live up to 30 years of fan expectations. But to a 8 year old kid (like me at its release) it was atleast as good as RotJ.

RotS - Awesome, only negative is once again the love portions, at least until the end.

I agree with Blu Yoda in that the PT's storylines are much richer and more complex than the OT, but the in the PT the execution of their stories are not nearly as well done as the OT stories. This why the OT's simple and personal stories trump the PT for 9 out of 10 people

ALSO GO! CANUCKS GO! :P
Best moment in TPM is when Qui-Gon Jinn stabs his lightsaber into the blast door, the power of a true jedi.

LOL. I corrected my meaning so there was no need to re-dissect my FIRST post anymore. And I'm close to thinking your suggestion is the most silly thing ever said. Permit me to explain

140$AU on every aussie preorder vendor
89$US (basically SAME AU conversion) on amazon.com

Gee, I wonder why I would want to buy from the lower priced vendor... :P Totally irrelevant how convenient/timing wise, it would be to get locally. I'd rather wait the 4 days more + 12 days business shipping to get star wars for 50$ less! I'd like to save money so I can buy the 3D versions each year and not feel completely ripped by the franchise.

I liked Phantom Menace much more when it first came out. I honestly don't have any problems with Jar Jar like others do. My main problem with the movie is that almost all of the acting is very "stale", not just Jake Lloyd's.
Attack of the Clones I hated when I first saw it and haven't seen it again yet, so I can't really give my true opinion on it. All I'll say is it just didn't really feel like a Star Wars movie to me.
Revenge of the Sith while not excellent I thought was better than the other prequels. Even though the story isn't perfect, I kind of liked how Anakin became evil because he thought he would be saving Padme. Ewan McGregor's performance was pretty good; I could pretty much believe that he & Obi-Wan in A New Hope were the same person.
All in all, I don't hate the prequels, I'm just not crazy about them. I find myself in the mood to watch the original trilogy at least 2 or 3 times a year, while I only see myself watching the prequels maybe once every 2 years.

Although I understand your reasoning for importing in this case it's definitely not $50 less. The Amazon one is $89.99 plus shipping (which you didn't factor in) so that's another $8 putting it at $98 to buy overseas, $9 more than you were working off. Big W online is offering pre-orders for $118 with free delivery so that will be the most you'd have to pay in Australia. That's $22 less than your calculations assuming no one else beats that price. That means the most you save is $20. Yes, $20 is $20 but it sure isn't $50 and that makes the value of waiting a little less clear cut. I was ordering from the US also but with this is mind I'd rather have it three weeks earlier for $20 more. I'm keeping the US pre-order though on the off chance that someone sparks a price war and it drops $20 or so dollars. I kind of doubt that it would drop that much on such a high profile title though, not when most retailers will know that reasonable pricing will see these flying off shelves without much effort.

I usually import but this is one title where having it early would be nice and for once Australia will actually one of the first countries in the world to get this due to the earlier release date and our time zone. Some retailers will no doubt break the release date which would mean you can get it in store on the 9th or 10th as most retailers get the releases scheduled for a Thursday release by Tuesday.

Absolutely with you there. Though i still like A New Hope best, mainly because of the childhood memory of seeing it for the first time, the prequels were definitely enjoyable for me and i love watching them as much as the others. Revenge of the Sith is my favorite of them personally. I do think the acting at times was bad (needless to say for most i think) and the love story was cringeworthy, but overall still very good. Some of the battles were just epic! The scope of the universe just seemed so much larger.

I really can't wait for this to come out. It's giving me a good excuse to totally geek out on Star Wars again, even though im 23 now Love it!

Another 'like' for Phantom Menace here. It feels so much more Star Wars-y than the other two prequels because it looks so old-school, having been shot in anamorphic on good ol' 35mm (just like the OT). Loads of model effects shots too, and the constant riffing on the OT is a treat for a nerd like me. Cannot wait to see this on Blu to bury the memory of the haggard DVD.

WOW!! It's nice to know that not all is doom and gloom around here with regards to the prequels. I basically echo what every says around here in that AoTC isn't as good as the other two simply because of the love story side.

Another question for everyone here... How many of you have held off watching any of the films waiting instead for the Blu release? I'm coming up on 8 months since I've watched one and it's killing me, in a good way though. It will make the Blu release even sweeter.

... and yes I plan to go total nerd for the weekend of the release and have a SW marathon.

I gave 5/5 for movie in my "review", that's for the complete saga so I love all of them.

And no, no way I can live without Star Wars for another 4 months. I'm gonna start again with The Phantom Menace this weekend. And I plan to watch all six the week before the BD release.

Can not agree more! I love them all even though ROTJ seems a little sub par effectwise ....
