Default The Blu-ray Community Top 31 Horror Films of All Time RESULTS

After a LONG wait (wasn't done purposefully) I have finally completed the Blu-ray.com Community Top 31 Horror Films of All Time. This list was actually very fun to do considering that horror isn't necessarily my favorite genre but I found the results quite interesting. Before we get to the results I would like the thank the following for participating:

  • lacit170

Needless to say, there were a bunch of you that participated and I thank you greatly for it. This is one of the most successful lists that I've done and I think you guys are really going to enjoy the results.

So how does the list work? The participating users came up with a list of their 31 favorite horror films of all time. Based on how they placed on their list, they would be awarded a number of points. Point scoring system as followed:

1. 16 Points
2. 15 Points
3. 14 Points
4. 13 Points
5. 12 Points
6. 11 Points
....
13. 4 Points
14. 3 Points
15. 2 Points
16. 1 Point

You can view the original thread here.

I'll unveil the list in this order:

31-26
25-21
20-16
15-11
10-6
5-3
2-1

As I unveil the list I'll add links above so you can jump straight to where you left off instead of having to unravel through the pages.

Once again I would like the thank to those who participated and I'll waste no further time and get started. 31-26 will be up in a few.

1) Didn't realize the cut off date for nominations was the weekend before my midterms. Fail 1.

2) After midterms, I was surprised with a OU-Texas ticket so I was gone the entire weekend. Fail 2. Plus, OU lost. Fail 3.

So now here we are.

wow, i'm real glad Orphanage made it!!! now for all you "i don't like subtitles" folk, rent it!!!!!
The Ring should have been a little higher, IMO psychological horrors like The Ring are always more terrifying than in-your-face-gore flicks.

I could not agree more. Gore flicks really have no value to me, to be honest. No offense to those who like them, I just think mood and atmosphere work better.

People seem to love or hate The Mist. It's probably because it doesn't fit in with the typical Hollywood cliches.

The gore is limited. More attention is focused on the thought behind people's actions. If you take away the creatures, the actions of the people are things that could actually happen. Half of the horror is seeing how low humans get when they are desperate.

It fascinates me to see how roles change in such a situation. Who are the real leaders? Who will step up and who will crumble?

The ending is the other reason many people don't like the movie.

I am in the group that loves it. Frank Darabont and Stephen King come up with the goods again. The lack of a soundtrack until the 1 hour 45 mark are intentional. It makes the scene that follows more dramatic.

Yeah, it's not for everyone. But those that like it will really appreciate it. If you haven't seen it, make up your own mind.

Nice to see both The Ring and The Orphanage on here. Despite the many criticisms of The Ring, Verbinski did a very good directing job and did a good job at creating tension. The Orphanage I consider to be one of the best modern horror films, although it isn't REALLY horror. A real throwback to using atmoshphere over special effects and violence. Great film and can't wait to own it on blu.

Thanks for taking the time Romulus.

Good to see The Ring and The Orphanage. I love both of those. Kinda surprised The Ring isn't higher on the list, though.

Mistake made: 28 Days Later was accidently deleted from number 27 and I looked over it. So I added it back in.

I know, it is embarassing. I haven't bought many of the films that are on my wishlist because I am waiting for the holiday sales. Two of the top ones on my list, The Orphanage and The Lives of Others, have not dropped below $20 since I have been looking (several months)
