Does anyone here own the Pioneer 5010? I'd like to know what you think of it. From what I hear this TV has the best PQ away from the Elite series...what can you tell me. I'm trying to decide between the Sony 46XBR4 or either the 5080 or the 5010...I would prefer the 5010 being that it's 1080p, but it's a little out of my price range for awhile. Is this TV a lot better than the 46XBR4? I'd like to know if anyone here has any experience with it...such as Blu-rays, PS3 games, and SD content. I've also heard that these are good with keeping away the burn in. Amazon dropped the price to $3,569.96 so when I've got the money this should be the one to buy. What do you guys think?

patience is the greatest virtue of all. while most of us do not have this(including me) we probably have many examples of where patience and diligence paid off.
if you got the 720p tv you'd always think about later getting a 1080p. but with the 1080p you won't have any regrets. |

I must say wait if for no other reason we are only 2 months from the best TV buying season of the year. And who knows if the announcements out of CES are big enough that things will be changing then the prices might even get lower.

I just sold my Pioneer 5070 (720P) and bought the Pio 5010-FD two weeks ago. Love it, do I see a huge difference....probably not but I do sleep better at night and I don't have as much anxiety as I did not having a 1080P tv..LOL
I know you said it might be out of your price range, but check online. This is at BB for 4999, I found it online for 2999 + ship + 4 Year warranty + Ship Insurance and still only paid 3700. You can search around but I don't think anyone will say anything bad about a 1080P Pioneer Plasma |

I have the Pio 5010. I also own a PS3 and have used it for both movie watching both standard and HD including broadcast, DVD, and Blu-ray. I would agree that it depends on the seating distance whether you will notice much improvement between the 5080 and 5010. My seating distance varies depending on how many people are in my house. Normally, I sit about ~ 9.5 ft away which really minimizes the benefit of the 5010. Personally to do over again, I would have bought the 5080 as I don't think the 1080 benefits my viewing distance. Both sets are practically the same too except for slightly improved contrast (5010 = 20K:1 and the 5080 = 16K:1). I don't believe I would notice the difference between the two sets.
I can tell you that either the 5010 or 5080 will CRUSH the sony. Not only does the Pios have the best static contrast, the video processing in the Pios are superior. You can't go wrong with either the 5080 and 5010. Oh, you will not get native 24fps in the Sony either; the Pio CAN! Regarding performance, standard TV looks pretty good depending the channel and the compression. I have seen many channels look great on the set and a few that looked really bad. PS3 games and Blu ray movies are just fantastic. I don't own but a couple of PS3 games because I really bought it for the blu-ray and the 24fps I would by the set again without considering ANY other brand... If I was going to consider another manufacturer, it would be the Samsung local dimming LCD or the Samsung 63" 1080p plasma. It would definitely not be the Sony... Sonys are just over priced with no real performance especially compared to the Pioneers. Lastly I would say if you have the money now for the 5080, by it now and start enjoying. I don't think you'll notice any difference with the 5010 at normal viewing distances. Like I said, to do over, I would buy the 5080 over the 5010 as I just don't see the difference from my viewing distance but still it is amazing. |

Don't bother with a plasma, you will regret it....trust me
Plasma's are like GF's/Wives everything is fine til you live with em for a while. Then they fade away, you get bad memories burned in...until you are stuck with em because nobody else wants em and you are too deep in. ![]() |

My viewing distance should be anywhere between 6-9 feet depending on how my wife sets up the living room. I may not be able to tell the difference in resolution then huh. The 5080 is $2619.96 on Amazon while the 46XBR4 is $2749. You guys think in 2 months the prices on all three of these sets will go down anyways...I don't seem to have much patience, but I am waiting for the right time to strike. Being that my viewing distance is small would more of you recommend the 5080 over the 5010? If I decide on the 5080 should I still wait to see if the prices go even lower or is the TV on sale from Amazon?

In another year, the 720p sets will go the way of the Enhanced Defiinition Sets (remember them, 480p instead of 480i). My advice is to stay away from them.
If you don't want to spend the money for a Pioneer 1080p plasma, you may consider a Samsung 5884 58" 1080p plasma set. Its picture quality is very good with a 15,000 to 1 contrast ratio and an 18 bit color processor. It also includes anti-image retention software (including pixel shift) to reduce the possiblility of image burn in. You can get this 58" model for the price of a 50" 720 Pioneer. They also came out with a wireless version of this set if you want to wall mount your set (about $600.00 more). |

The Pioneer Elite Kuro PRO-110FD or PRO-150FD Aint no joke. I originally went to but a lcd sony bravia latest edition. thinking i was going to spend at most 2500 and was still like damn do i really want to spend that much. I ended up spending 6000 on the the Pro 110FD. I might be broke for the next 10 or so years but it was worth the investment for me. For me Pioneer is at the top of the game when it comes to HD Plasma quality. lol my tv before this though was a crappy apex 27 inch haahahahaha. I went from Pinto to Lambo

I just got mine from a Ebay Store. There is 1 left. It came Fedex to my Door. When it came I gave it time to let all of the condensation go away. It is up and running. It is a 1080p. Boy is it nice! Really worth the wait. It came with the Warrenty. Also can buy a maintance agreement if wanted. I am going to wait to see how it does. So far it is everything they say it is. My Brother has 2 of them. His are great. My Blu-ray and High Def. are looking good with it. What a Picture!!! I looked around a lot befor buying. Pioneer has a nice site to look at the KURO. I love the KURO! It is really worth buying.

I'm anxiously awaiting delivery of a 5010FD, which should arrive in the next 3-4 days. (Would have loved to have gotten the 110FD (the Elite version) but I couldn't justify the extra $1000 in price.) I ordered mine from Invision Displays at a great price. They are an authorized Pioneer internet reseller, which means you will be covered by Pioneer's own warranty. Pioneer actually makes a big deal about buying their products from authorized dealers, and they provide of list of them on their website--check it out before you buy!

If you're going to put in a room with windows or lights that will be on in front of the tv I would go with the lcd. Other than that you would really be splitting hairs comparing these sets.

Well we do live in a small place right now and the room does have windows and lights. I really wanted to go with the 5010, but I'm starting to think that I should go with the 40XBR4 because the place is so small. If I get the 40 now I think I can have Sonystyle price match Abe's of Maine for $1999 and get the 5 year warranty for $249. Then when we move into someplace bigger this will be my 2nd TV and I can upgrade to the biggest and the best then. I'm really starting to like this plan. What do you guys think...I'm thinking 40XBR4 for the present and a Pioneer KURO or Elite for the future. I might even be able to do a 60" later on.
