Yesterday I finally got my system installed. I tried to wait for the pioneer bd but instead brought a panny. I have a pioneer pro 1540 60in plasma put on the wall with def tech surround sound. My receiver is the pioneere elite 82 series. I watched x-man 3 and my tv is not 1080p but it sure looked just as good. The sound was awsome. Why could I only hear sound when it was set to PCM? I will probably return the panny for the elite when it is available. I really couldn't see the diff between my tv and the pio-fhd 1080p. I am a begginer at all this tech stuff but pretty much know the basics.

Im not hearing anything. The installer told me to keep it on pcm. that was the only way I could get sound. Not unless you have to power off the bd everytime you change the settings for them to work.

Sounds like your system is set up like this : BD player -> HDMI -> Pioneer Plasma -> HDMI -> Receiver.
The receiver should be the middle. fuad |

Plasma to receiver. Receiver to BD player. Receiver to Direct TV

you have to make sure that the player is outputting DTS, DD through the HDMI. When you do get sound is the receiver automatically recognizing DD or DTS as a source? If the display automatically changes then you are not missing anything. If it does not change when the movie starts, then continue reading.
On the receiver there are various options for sound formats (DTS,DD,5 channel stereo, etc.) Rotate these until it says Dolby Digital or DTS(it will say DTS:Neo6 or Dolby Pro-Logic II if there is no source coming in). The receiver should automatically pick up the audio then. If not then a setting on the player must be changed, check the audio out settings. I know for a fact that the receiver takes DD and DTS through the HDMI inputs as I have setup quite a few for my studio displays, and a couple for my clients. I am pretty sure that any changes will have to come from the player itself. Is it possible that the Panny does not output LPCM through HDMI? That seems to be the most likely culprit here. |
