Thumbs down Pricing concerns with BD

I have been noticing a disturbing trend of prices rising quickly for the format. I just noticed that the Kill Bill movies are now 30.99. I know you can buy both for $40 but that is not my point. I also noticed that Amazon has listed several Universal titles for $26.99 each. I have stopped buying movies in this price range. They did post this collection for a much better deal http://www.amazon.com/Halloween-Star...750325&sr=1-51 I don't see how this is helping the format with prices this high. Guess i am getting cheap.

Well, it's still early in the format. I have no problem spending $27 on new releases and $20 on catalogs - and not like I'm Mr. Moneybags here. It's the price we pay (lol) for being the first ones there. Besides, it's not Amazon's fault. Besides, MSRP is $35-$40. Amazon is cheaper by 33%!

Bet this gets merged in a few minutes.

follow the "Hot Deals" threads...... plenty of deals out there..... you can be an early adopter, and not pay full MSRP.

Amazon has jacked up the prices on some of their preorders.

I would consider the fact it was on HD-DVD so who cares, plus it's Dude Where's My Car, are you actually upset because it's that much? It could be $10 or $150 and it wouldn't change anything.

That's Fox's policy to charge $39.99 MSRP for catalog titles.

And I didn't know "Dude" was even announced.

If you're willing to do a little work, and not have to have something the same day it's released, you can almost always find a lower price. Amazon is a great place to start, but I find a lot of my movies at EBay after someone has bought a movie, (ok maybe stolen) and now decided they don't want to keep it and want to recoup some of their cash.

A great example is 10,000 BC. I have heard repeatdly 10K was a really lousy film, but if you want to have this movie on Blu, just wait till all of the "others" finish watching the bad film and pick it up on Ebay for $10-12.

Outside of Amazon, it's worked like a charm for me.

I think it's only a concern if you're buying every release without looking around first or waiting a few weeks. If you're buying a new release, it's only expected that you'll probably paying the most.

But I've noticed stores are doing better with sales and amazon.com usually has a good deal with their buy 2 get 1s and what have you. But I think used is where it's at, if you have a pawn shop or anything near you I've been regularly picking up new releases for $10-15. If not, ebay and half.com etc work as well.

if you can wait a few months after its released, you can save $5-$10 usually.

Amazon's B2G1 deal sucks. They jacked up their prices for it.

3:10 to Yuma was $18.95 before the sale and it went up to $27.95..

some people want to bury their head in the sand but yes, pricing is getting worse, sales are few and far between and except for this newest Amazon one are ALWAYS the same freaking ones by sony. Kill bill for $30.99 is HORRIBLE!!!, so what if we can find them at pawn shops for $10 or if we look under a rock, standard pricing is what we're worried about, that's where most of the sales come from is the release date of a movie, it's un acceptable and we need to make sure retailers know that. I'm all for supporting the format but they've been slowly and steadily pushing prices into the ridiculous stage. This rant wasn't just a ***** cuz I wantzs free discz yoz!!, but rather a look at what movies cost us and the steady increase in prices. I'm a bargain hunter and can wait mostly but I do speak out when I see something ridiculous like this.

I only mention places like pawn shops because it's an alternative to paying retail prices if they're too high for you personally. I think everyone's expecting that they drop like a rock so quickly and while it would be nice, it's not going to happen for a couple of years, at least. It's the price of being an early adopter unfortunately, but there are still plenty of ways are finding most releases for a decent price, like $15-20. I personally don't pay $30-35 for any release and don't see why anyone would.

Ummmm... hello?!?!?! How many years into DVDs existence did we pay $27 for new releases? Oh yeah, up until the release of Blu-ray! Hell, DVD new releases are still being prices at $23-$25. So, what's the point of this thread? I say, get over it and spend $4 less on the DVD if you have such a problem. To me, that extra $4 is worth the quality difference between DVD and Blu-ray.

I've seen about a dozen of these "I'm going to ***** and moan about something that pisses me off" threads in the last 4 or 5 days. I've always been keen on gaining a bit of perspective when it comes to issues that I find start to get me emotional (aside from religion and politics... those two I'd rather avoid being brainwashed by gaining any perspective other than my own). And this is DEFINITELY a situation where gaining a little perspective is needed.

Not even close. This is just flat-out misinformation. New release DVDs at Best Buy and Wal-Mart have been around $16 for years now.

exactly, if they were lowering the price to $15-20 the first week of releasing (amazon prices mind you) I wouldn't mind so much, but when they're not really discounted like regular DVD's are then it starts to get ridiculous.
